11.01.22 | Nice, early Hellraiser and NoES are great. Green Room and Train to Busan are gooduns, too
I don't remember a lot about The Collector but I enjoyed the sequel, The Collection, a fair amount. It's been a while since I have seen either, tho
I do want to see X. Love me some Brittany Snow |

11.01.22 | Number 1 is fucking fantastic and I love it more than words can express. Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles are top tier Jackson also! Hellraiser and Hellbound are probably my favorite horror flicks of all time. Chopping Mall is obnoxiously fun 80's cheese. Trick or Treat is some really fun heavy metal inspired horror, one of the best next to Shock Em Dead, Black Roses, Rocktober Blood and Scream Dream.
Videodrome is without a doubt my favorite Cronenberg and honestly one of my favorite films ever made. So surreal and downright amazing effects to this day. Phenomena is awesome Italian horror and was surprised to see Jennifer Connelly in it when I first saw it. Love Argento and it's definitely towards the top of his filmography for me.
Mad God really surprised me also and I was in awe by some of the imagery throughout. That one was really unique and stuck with me for quite awhile once it was over. Also enjoy The Collector and it's sequel quite a bit.
Green Room was a nice, intense watch. I just brought it up in another thread but the directors movie Blue Ruin is an amazing revenge flick that I highly recommend to anyone who digs revenge stuff or just bleak films in general. That one felt unique for that kind of plot and pretty realistic also
His earlier flick Murder Party is possibly my favorite horror comedy and also takes place on Halloween. It's delightfully goofy and it's range of joke approaches is superb. Love that movie so much and try to always give it a watch around this time of year every year since I first discovered it many moons ago renting it blindly from my local Blockbuster. Speaking of which I miss video rental stores so damn much. Miss the days of going to Blockbuster and even before it places like Video Junction and random mom and pop shops that were around before Blockbuster came through and wiped them all out. |

11.01.22 | The original Hellraiser is so bleak and depraved, love it. Didn't like Hellraiser II much. Just 3/5 for Train to Busan? Such a good film. X is good but not top tier. Haven't seen the prequel Pearl yet but seems like it may take it to another level. |

You should watch Barbarian and add it to this list. And if you do, do NOT read reviews or look up any info on it before watching it |

I watched Martyrs, I watched Antichrist. I watched Cannibal Holocaust. And many more. But there is not one movie in the world that made me feel more uncomfortable than Meet The Feebles. I ain´t joking. |

11.01.22 | The Scooby-Doo movies kick ass by virtue of featuring Matthew Lillard |
Thalassic
11.01.22 | Braindead, Hellraiser, Videodrome, Poltergeist, Nightmare on Elm Street, Carnival of Souls are all classics
I liked Green Room as well
Barbarian was pretty good, Justin Long kills it in that movie |

11.01.22 | Matthew Lillard as Shaggy is the best example of perfect casting. |

11.01.22 | Heard many great things about Barbarian, it is on my watchlist. |

11.01.22 | my favorite that i watched this october was Terrifier 2 easy. art is now my favorite horror villain of all time. i stayed mostly with newer horror and what was in theaters. x, pearl, barbarian, smile were all good. new halloween and hellraiser were terrible. |
Thalassic
11.01.22 | "Matthew Lillard as Shaggy is the best example of perfect casting."
Anybody else playing Shaggy is just totally unacceptable. |
Thalassic
11.01.22 | I loved Smile. It was not original at all, but it was very efficient. Probably my favorite horror movie of 2022.
I went into it thinking Terrifier 2 wasn't gonna be all that good, but it kinda slapped ngl.
New Halloween and Hellraiser were garbage, agreed. |
Anthracks
11.01.22 | hard to believe the dude who directed hellraiser also directed the night house, which isn't by any means a masterpiece but is actually pretty tasteful horror |
KnickFurey
11.01.22 | Damn, is the new Hellraiser no good? |
Anthracks
11.01.22 | it's like a really bad euphoria episode with cenobites and destroys the mythology |
KnickFurey
11.01.22 | Would you say its better than #3 at least?
Night House was great, that was originally planned as a Hellraiser film no? |
combustion07
11.01.22 | Oh damn I had no idea the new Hellraiser was the same director as Night House! I thoroughly enjoyed Night House tbh. Went into blind and it was completely different than what I anticipated but I felt like it was a pretty fresh idea executed properly.
I actually really enjoyed the new Hellraiser. It was by far my favorite in the series since Hell on Earth. Inferno might edge it out though, I'd have to go back and rewatch it to be certain.
I've been really wanting to catch Smile in theaters along with Halloween Ends, something has come up every weekend though and I hadn't had the chance to hit the theater until this past weekend and I chose Terrifier 2 over those two. I don't regret my decision either because I absolutely loved Terrifier 2 even with it being a tad too long. By far the most gore I've ever seen theatrically lol. Idk if I'd go as far to say that Art the Clown is my favorite horror villain of all time but he's definitely the best in recent horror for me.
All of the recent horror discussion here on Sputnik makes me really wish I didn't get locked out of my YouTube channel that I'd been posting videos nerding out over horror for over a decade on : ( made an email back in the day just to make the channel and since I haven't signed in since back when I made it the email went inactive and YouTube updated to where I have to open an email to be able to sign in my account and it bums me out in a major way. It's not a ton but I had 1,000+ subs on there and many of them were good friends I'd made that I really only had contact with through there.
Here's the channel if you are a horror fanatic or just wanna see ya boy be a dweeb. Might come back under a new name eventually. Got a bunch of horror talk I'd like to get out of my system so I more than likely will in the next couple months tbh

Gyromania
11.01.22 | I still don't get how Green Room is horror. Because there are some savage deaths in it? There's nothing remotely scary or supernatural going on, they're just trapped with a bunch of Nazis. I'd call it a thriller |
Zac124
11.01.22 | Yeah, it is definitely more of a thriller than a horror. It’s horror elements are very minor. |
KnickFurey
11.01.22 | Oh man, theres a Terrifier 2? I felt so dirty after watching the first one lol. |

11.01.22 | Loads of good stuff on this list but you're missing tons (I mean duh, there's just way too much good horror). I'm surprised you don't rate Mad God higher. That movie is such a breath of fresh air in the genre. It's so masterfully shot abd put together and has some incredible creature design |
Anthracks
11.01.22 | hellraiser 3 is a 2/10 and hellraiser 22 is a 3/10, so yeah it's better
also, you will not find a quote of me saying i want hellraiser to be tasteful, rather the opposite, but i understand your extrapolation |
combustion07
11.01.22 | I think Green Room gets brought up in horror discussion mainly because it's got some common ground with old exploitation flicks. A lot of people tend to lump horror and exploitation together, myself included.
And damn man hitting Hellraiser 3 with the good ol' 2/10! I've got a soft spot for Hellraiser 3 but I'll be the first to admit that it is pretty dumb and a big drop off for the series, that being said I quite like cheese and a large amount of stupid horror movies so it worked for me. Realistically the 4th one is a better movie though and probably the best of the sequels when it comes to expanding on the plot and whatnot.
Agree with all of the statements about Mad God Gyro. It really was a breath of fresh air and I'm overdue for a rewatch tbh.
Also hope you dig the channel Knick! It mostly consists of me showing movies I'd grabbed when I was collecting horror flicks in mass and giving brief overviews of my thoughts on them along with review videos and I'd occasionally do updates on music I was buying too. Started doing the YouTube thing around 12 or 13 around the time I joined sput. I deleted pretty much all of my videos from my first few years but I've probably still got like 200 or more up. |

11.01.22 | Great idea and list, some very solid showings here: 18-15 is a super solid stretch, X was a super pleasant surprise, and Videodrome's an absolute classic.
I feel like I could buy Green Room as horror based purely on the escalating claustrophobia + gore, but yeah, it's definitely in that horror/thriller borderland. (Saulnier's follow-up Hold the Dark may arguably be his most "horror" movie--I just wish I liked it more haha) |
