I think this question is kind of nuanced. For example, I think Daft Punk's influence on modern music is undeniable but I do not understand how they reached those commercial heights off solely their music (visuals/marketing could play a role). I am not fully engulfed in the "hype" but understand what I dislike about them other people may love.

They take a lot of the 3rd-wave ska punk craze and bring it to people who don't really care about ska by mixing it with alternative rock, reggae, and hip hop. Bradley Nowell's lyrics are often very personal, direct, biographical, and troubled while also being catchy

11.03.24 | i didn't think much of led zepp as a teen but they've grown on me quite a bit, my hot take on them is they aren't a great 'album band.' they have quite a lot of bangers buut throwing on any of their albums theres at least like 4skips unless your a diehard. excellent compilation band though annnd those 'how the west was won' live albums are pretty amazing.
same applies to rolling stones i feel like all you really need is the hot rocks comp.
as far as like popular mainstream stuff goes : i can understand mcr, to a lesser extent i can understand fall out boy fans... i cannot fathom why anyone would willingly listen to panic at the disco. 30 secs to mars also has those occasional fans that'd be like 'the first two albums are actually pretty amazing and well done' annnd nah i'm really not hearing it |
EphemeralEternity
11.03.24 | Coldplay aren’t critically acclaimed beyond their first 2 but I have to mention them because besides one or two songs their music actively pisses me off. Something about Chris martins voice gives it this almost condescending feel. It puts me to sleep and makes me irate simultaneously

EphemeralEternity
11.04.24 | 95% of modern metalcore is overproduced soulless wankery
It lots it’s core and became emotionless metal where the intended emotional parts - clean vocals, clean guitar melodies - feel very forced (they did in a lot of older music as well but it wasn’t as bad)
Theres some cool musicianship but that’s about it.
