Ever onward, A -core exploration throughout this particular universe. If you've been with me since the beginning, you know the drill; for those of you who are new, the first 7 lists in this ongoing series have been recommendations from the members of sputnikmusic and The Daily Mosh, going throughout the genres of hardcore, metalcore, post-hardcore and deathcore, with minor forays into related genres. From list #8 on through now, the focus has been slightly re-tooled as I've expanded my interest and areas with the direct intent of finding or re-discovering albums from these genres that should be elevated back into the -core community conversation as worthy examples of the best of what these genres have to offer, and also pointing out the albums that should (rightfully) be avoided so one's interest may never have to waver. Flip The Kill Switch
Such controlled ferocity in here, it’s impossible not to be swept up in its wake. From the word “go”, Dragbody absolutely unleash their anger and venom upon the listener, and it’s enjoyable riding this album out. Vocals are absolutely fantastic here, and the energy and strength they bring here is a highlight of the album. Instrumentation is excellent, with the production providing a positive assist with how everything sounding full-bodied and strong; tone is solid throughout with no dips in quality, and the only minor quibble I’d have is that the flow, while certainly intense, can sound mildly samey in spots. Other than that, this was a fun album, front to back.
