Ashore the Celestial Burden
You know, this was actually fun to listen to. Not as thrashy and furious as other entries, Dark Millennium instead lean into more progressive tendencies to differentiate themselves from the death metal pack, and in the end this decision works for them and their style. Vocals were interesting, being a higher register than what I was expecting, but the intelligible and understandable style of screaming was appreciated, and in the end, fit the intangibles well. Instrumentation was solid and varied, never allowing the experience to lag or sputter, and the tone and flow worked really well overall, which just added to the enjoyability factor for the album. Solid effort overall and a welcome changeup to the death metal formula.
