Gallantin 02.08.20	Well, my main problem with it is the performances. Some of the poorest acting I've ever seen. The big fight scene had me in a fit of laughter. But aside from that? It's bland. It's a generic rich white marriage failure narrative that has absolutely nothing going for it. When any number of vastly more interesting stories can be told, why on earth did Marriage Story ever make it past a first draft? It's embarassingly shallow and ineffective.

Gallantin 02.08.20	Just having characters talk over each other doesn't make the acting or the writing good. His previous film did overlapping dialogue far better. And when it comes to overlapping dialogue, Uncut Gems did it better than any film I've ever seen and served a purpose for the pacing of the narrative in order to severely heighten the anxiety and tension of the story, rather than it just being there to "feel grounded".

unclereich 02.10.20	parasite definitely deserved the nod as much as I really didn't enjoy it I found it to be objectively the best film of 2019. really happy little women and marriage story won so few awards as they were both boring films. sad that 1917 won anything given how fucking boring it was. glad Joaquin won he had the performance of a lifetime but easily the worst speech of the night. dude is a huge pussy. also congrats to brad for the win much deserved and thank you for being the only dumbass to drop an impeachment reference
tectactoe 02.10.20	Of these noms, MARRIAGE STORY is the best, but I'm not at all upset about PARASITE winning. It was a very good movie and this'll hopefully bring more exposure to foreign-language films in the future. The best movie of the year, though, which wasn't nominated for anything at all is LIGHT OF MY LIFE (partially due to the fact that it's the antithesis of what The Academy typically likes, plus all the Casey Affleck stuff).

tectactoe 02.10.20	I dunno, MARRIAGE STORY would've been pretty big, or at least far bigger of a win than THE GREEN BOOK - it'd be a huge win for a traditionally indie director and it would also have been the first win for a film released initially on a streaming platform (which is bound to happen eventually anyway, but still).

Irishman is awesome but in comparison to other mafia films there's nothing inherently groundbreaking about it. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was an awesome movie that I would have picked for Best Picture had Parasite not been nominated. Little Women and Jojo Rabbit are fucking god-awful movies that don't deserve any awards period. Marriage Story is meh.
