Best Hard Rock/Metal albums of 1974

Here Hard Rock starts to become a real force as new bands continue to appear. This year seems a little lacklustre as it seems to lack true genuine classic albums, though the five albums of the selection aged very well.
1Blue Oyster Cult
Secret Treaties

Yes, this can be surprising but it's BOC members' favourite album. Listen to it and you will understand why. Everlasting classic : Astronomy.
2Deep Purple

Here's the Mark III. It has its flaws but the title track alone makes this album worth having.
Sheer Heart Attack

Queen finally managed to balance its pop and hard rock sensibilities. In the Hard Rock side, Stone Cold Crazy even forecast Thrash Metal.
4Bad Company
Bad Company

Here's Led Zep's little brother, more radio-friendly but still enjoyable today.
In for the Kill!

Not that familiar with that band but 70s lovers take them in high esteem and this is may be their best offering.
6Rory Gallagher
Irish Tour '74

Penetrate the smoky atmosphere of Irish venues for this energic blues fest. Gallagher was not a shredder but he could play a mean hard blues.

A first installment quite far from their future progressive instalments but for the sabbathean song "Working Man" only it's worth lending a ear.
Queen II

Not perfect to say the least but this progressive album has its good moments and it's Brian May's favourite Queen album.
Get Your Wings

Still not completely to the standard of future Aero's records but songs like Same old song and dance or Seasons of Wither are minor classics of the early US hard rock.

Here they are, not the best nor the most talented one but it's hard to resist that blunt discharge of hard rocking. The band will do better but there is enough here to make you happy.
