What are your favourite songs of the year so far?
I feel like the tide has shifted somehow, somewhere when a doof soty list overlaps with what mine would be in large swaths
Copeland - Pope
Better Oblivion - Dylan Thomas
Hozier - Wasteland, Baby!
American Football - Silhouettes
La Dispute - You Ascendant
Periphery - Reptile
PUP - Scorpion Hill
nice, made a top ten the other day myself. curious what you think of fka twig's cellophane, rym is gushing over it. an ambient pop masterwork, seems like the closest she's come to doof appeal
here's my picks:
Weyes Blood – A Lot’s Gonna Change
Lizzo – Juice
Holly Herndon – Eternal
Aguila – Trance Atlantic
Avey Tare – What’s the Goodside?
Octo Octa – I Need You
Laurence Guy – Missing in Reaction
Aldous Harding – The Barrel
Kornel Kovacs – Club Notes
FKA Twigs – Cellophane

Luci - good reminder, need to check the new Kornel Kovacs
2 for sure
guess i need to check out thomas feiner then!
@doof: found it a little disappointing sadly, with the exception of this song which is a total bop
Lark, my aoty was by Feiner working under the name 'Exit North' - essential if you like that sort of style
Epic Beard Man- You can't tell me shit
Problem Daughter- Self Amusing Smile
James Blake- Into The Red
Spanish Love Songs- Losers
Cokie the Clown- Punk Rock Saved My Life
Epic Beard Men- Shin Splints
Fontaines DC- Roy's Tune
And everything off the Antighost- Animal Panic! EP
Sloth - Roy's Tune is my second fave off the Fontaines, proves they're just as good at the slow tunes
These are my favorites so far

Martyrdod - Cashless Society
Numenorean - Regret

Some contenders for me, unordered except for the top 5:

Health - "God Botherer"
Copeland - "Colorless"
Waste of Space Orchestra - "Wake Up the Possessor"
The Japanese House - "somethingfartoogoodtofeel"

Lambchop - either "The New Isn't So You Anymore" or "The Lasting Last of You"
Weyes Blood - "Something to Believe"
Cass McCombs - "The Great Pixley Train Robbery"
The Republic of Wolves - "(Born Blind)" [debatable, could arguably be considered a 2018 track]
ariana grande - "NASA"
Dyl - I'll try and get to some of the ones I missed from your list
I'll be genuinely surprised if you enjoy the Japanese House and Republic of Wolves tunes but I'm curious what you'll make of the others
being at the topic...I seriously need good 2019 albums. Got the feeling it kinda sucks until this point
looking at your ratings you're more metal/rock - not been much in those genres to blow me away as of yet got to say
more a folk and indie year so far, electronic and hip hop have been ok, metal and rock just nothing
if you like Nine Inch Nails and 'Mezzanine' you could try the Young Gods album listed above. They toured with NIN quite a lot in the '90s.
a lot of garbo here
not pop punk or emo = garbo
on top of our shared favourites w/o artist repeats:
and the kids - white comforters
spc eco - fifteen
wintersleep - free pour
beirut - i giardini
shovels and rope - carry me home
pelicat - across the field
schoolboy q - 5200
Thanks Doof! Will check them out :)
Just listened to Young Gods and I really dig them. Gonna check out the older stuff. Thanks for recommending!
Ah nice, wasn't sure you would.
My recommendation is hit 'Only Heaven' next - then 'TV Sky'.
Soilwork - The Ageless Whisper
Kings Kaleidoscope - The Rush trilogy (it's three songs but they're obviously designed to flow into each other)
The Twilight Sad - [10 Good Reasons for Modern Drugs]
Two People - I'm Tied, To You
Better Oblivion Community Center - Didn't Know What I Was In For
Ithaca - The Language of Injury
Antimatter - Existential
La Dispute - Fulton Street I
Moon Tooth - Raise a Light
Owel - Get Out Stay Out
Andrew Bird - Cracking Codes
of those I suspect Two People, BOCC and Andrew Bird are the Doofiest
Thanks ProjectF - I'll check those two again
Checked "Only Heaven" which really sounds like Downward Spiral but with a another unique touch. TV Sky was a little to repetitive for me. But thanks for recommending anyway, gonna take a look at their discog from time to time.
