| My 2022 Top 5
Top 5 albums of the year below. | 1 | | Ghost (SWE) Impera
What can I say about this album. It was the first Ghost album I bought - near the beginning of the year. Found it at Target - a wasteland of any metal albums of note. Wasn't expecting much when I bought it - just giving it a spin. Fell in love with the damn album, and proceeded to purchase almost the entire Ghost discography over a span of 6 months. The track list of Impera is structured perfectly - with not a sour apple in the bunch (although Twenties can grate on me sometimes). Kaisarion was my favorite song on the album, especially after seeing it live, and Darkness at the Heart of my Love and Respite on the Spitalfields are my favorite deep tracks. | 2 | | Slipknot The End, So Far
A lot of haters out there...but I keep coming back to this album. More so than I did with WANYK. I don't know if it's the inclusion of more progressive textures, which I favor, or if it's just a bit more digestible. Adderall is a great lead-in to The Dying Song, one of the best tracks on the album. Yen is a standout, for me my favorite. The remainder of the album ebbs and flows until Finale, which is a bad-ass closer. | 3 | | Fear Factory Recoded
Demanufacture or Remanufacture? I have always preferred the latter. Resultantly, I was stoked when I heard this was coming out. Recoded is a bit front-loaded - with Hatred Will Prevail, Disobey, and I am the Nightrider being standouts. But the whole album gives Aggression Continuum (a great album in itself) a new life. What a way to send out Burton Bell. | 4 | | Ozzy Osbourne Patient Number 9
Been an Ozzy fan since the No More Tears album, when in my low teens. I always pick up the newest Ozzy - but it is rare that it is something outside the mold; more like a comfortable hoodie that I've worn diligently for years. But this album surprised me. Pulling in the different guitarists really gives this album life and variety. And surprisingly, some of the Zakk Wylde tracks (that I was expecting to revere) sound re-treaded compared to the others. | 5 | | The hu Rumble of Thunder
2022 - figured out what was missing in my metal - Mongolian throat singing! and the Morin Khuur - love that instrument. Honestly, this album slaps. | |

12.19.22 | Honorable mention: EP releases by Wheel (Rumination) and Spiritbox (Rotoscope) | JDubb
12.28.22 | There were a few albums that didn't make the cut: Soilwork (Overgivenheten) and Coheed & Cambria (Vaxis - Act II) - need to adsorb these a bit more. Also, a few albums I haven't fully listened to yet: Megadeth (The Sick, the Dying...and the Dead), and The Halo Effect (Days of the Lost). |
