| Nightwish albums ranked
Nightwish was the first band that I really got into. I bought all of their albums and they are pretty much responsible for my interest not only in metal but music in general. Even though there are lots of other great bands I listen to nowadays, Nightwish will always remain the dearest to me. So let's rank their albums! | 8 | | Nightwish Angels Fall First
This isn't bad at any means but the goofy lyrics, Tuomas' awful singing and the cheap sounding production prevent this album from being excellent.
Best song: Beauty and the Beast
Worst song: Nymphomaniac Fantasia | 7 | | Nightwish Wishmaster
The quality of the tracks is high and there are no songs that are noticeably worse than others. Still as much as I like this, it is not as memorable as their other albums.
Best song: Dead Boy's Poem
Worst song: Two for Tragedy | 6 | | Nightwish Century Child
What's funny is that this album has the exact same problem than Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind. The first five tracks and the last one are all masterpieces but the rest are not on the same level. Of course Phantom of the Opera is great too but I personally don't really like when bands put cover songs on their studio albums.
Best song: Slaying the Dreamer
Worst song: Forever Yours | 5 | | Nightwish Endless Forms Most Beautiful
Some people had issues with the fact that Floor's operatic vocals weren't really used on this record. For me that's almost irrelevant because for me the operatic vocals are not what make Nightwish great. It's the amazing songwriting by Tuomas which is strongly present here. The last track alone is one of the greatest things that have ever reached my ears. Some of the songs are not that strong but by and large this is an awesome Nightwish debut for Floor.
Best song: The Greatest Show on Earth (obviously)
Worst song: Edema Ruh | 4 | | Nightwish Oceanborn
Even though I like the modern more progressive Nightwish better, there's no denying that Oceanborn is an absolute classic with its double bass drums, keyboard solos and beautiful melodies. No weak track found.
Best song: Pharaoh Sails to Orion
Worst song: Swanheart | 3 | | Nightwish Once
I think this is the first album by modern Nightwish. You can't really call this power metal anymore (although that can be debated) and the cinematic influences are stronger here than ever before. Also I think this is heavier record than the previous ones which is obviously nice. The only flaw is that the best song of all time, Ghost Love Score, is not the final track.
Best song: Ghost Love Score
Worst song: Nemo | 2 | | Nightwish Dark Passion Play
I know there are a lot of fans who consider Anette’s albums to be the worst. I disagree strongly. Yes, Anette is my least favorite singer of the three too but musically her era is the best. It's not even possible how many great songs you can fit on an album (Poet and the Pendulum, Master Passion Greed, The Islander, 7 Days to the Wolves and the list goes on). Also I think this is the Nightwish record where Marco truly shines.
Best song: Poet and the Pendulum
Worst song: Eva | 1 | | Nightwish Imaginaerum
On other CDs the "hit songs" and the ballads tend to be a bit weaker than the other material (not always though) but here everything works perfectly. Every song is absolutely amazing and I love how Nightwish has experimented new styles, for example jazz in Slow Love Slow. Masterpiece!
Best song: Scaretale
Worst song: Arabesque | |

08.17.18 | Their three most recent (1, 2 and 5) are far and away my favorite, though I still love a lot of the hits from Oceanborn and Once. I’ll add that the addition of Floor to the band added some youth and longevity to the band. I saw them live... she is a humble and graceful frontwoman with a phenomenal live voice. The rest of the band may be aging, but I hope they put out plenty of more albums. | J() Alexander

I haven't properly explored their material myself. | J() Alexander

But why though? I know there's a track called The Phantom of the Opera, but Maiden's Phantom of the Opera wasn't in Piece of Mind. |
