Colton
10.03.24 | Dummy because it has one actual good song (the opener) and 0 songs that sound like Jizz In My Pants |
Flashmobba
10.03.24 | I like dummy but mezzanine is one of the greatest albums of all time, the integration of samples and production is second to none |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.03.24 | why is Pedestal considered the bottom track on Dummy smdh
1. Glory Box (both among the weakest)
2. Roads oof
3. Risingson easily
4. Dissolved Girl
5. Wandering Star
6. Black Milk v easily
7. Biscuit i felt part of myself just die
8. It Could Be Sweet

Now Blue Lines vs Dummy is the real match up...and Blue Lines narrowly wins that one
Portishead s/t seems the natural match up with the similarly toned Mezzanine (Mezzanine would narrowly win that) |
ArsMoriendi
10.03.24 | Dummy but they’re both 5s
Wait, let me fill this out properly |

10. It's a Fire
11. Pedestal
A. Dummy (lol)
B. Portishead (lol)
this was a whitewash for me, because although I respect Mezzanine / Massive Attack greatly, Portishead are arguably my favourite band and Dummy is my #1 album of all-time. So although I wanted to be fair and give Mezz the odd 'win' by casting a critical eye over proceedings, this would be disingenuous
(2) re Blue Lines, which is actually my fave MA and would've been slightly trickier |
DoofDoof
10.03.24 | Checking my AOTY account and both Dummy and Blue Lines are on the exact same score of 96%.
Mezzanine sits at 92% while Portishead s/t is 91%.
So all very close stuff...probably a bad time to say 'Maxinquaye' has a 98% |
Trifolium
10.03.24 | Yes the Dummy vs Blue Lines matchup would be a lot harder, Dummy wins easily against Mezz, the only hard one for me would be Strangers vs Black Milk, which is one of my fave MA tunes. |
JohnnyoftheWell
10.03.24 | this matchup makes sense in that both are out-of-genre classics whereas Blue Lines never quite got there (and the Dummy tracklist would bury it lol let's keep things civil) |
DadKungFu
10.03.24 | 1. Glory Box
2. Angel
3. Risingson
4. Dissolved Girl
5. Wandering Star

10.03.24 | Ty for getting me to finally check Mezzanine so I can immediately make claim that Portishead wins regardless of what I thought of Massive Attack. 3/10 It Could Be Sweet>>>>>>>>Mezzanine. Shoulda done Nickelback vs Creed. |
Hawks

artiswar
10.04.24 | they serve different functions. Dummy is for when you want to feel sexy. Mezzanine is for when you want to disassociate and be alone in your thoughts |
normaloctagon

easy sweep for the beetle album, but i'd rather hear a new album from portishead, considering their development, so i'm team mezz/head |
Egarran
10.04.24 | Mezzanine has a few songs I can live without and is a 4.5/5, Dummy only has classic tunes and is a 7/5. |
Icebloom

10.04.24 | Also
"Third >" agreed ahrd
Re the Blue Lines debate: yeah as Johnny said this was mostly meant to put two revered classics against each other, don't think Blue Lines has that level of popularity. (Also I could never get into that one)
But yeah style-wise other matchups might make more sense |
Jurtz
10.04.24 | Both are amazing. Dummy is better. [2] |
