05.05.20 | Maybe I should feel ashamed. But I don't. Fuck guilty pleasures, they're just pleasures to me. |
aightnow
05.05.20 | no. and wes borland doesnt play bass. |
parksungjoon
05.05.20 | yea i never got it either |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.05.20 | guilty pleasure = when you enjoy something in spite of itself not because of itself. not that weird a concept |
veninblazer
05.05.20 | @aightnow: shit I forgot he only did bass for From First to Last. my bad
@johnny: I always interpreted it as "something you're ashamed of liking" |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.05.20 | not mutually exclusive, but i'd say that's a less helpful definition bc it all it tells your own feeling, which you already know - doesn't unpack what about the 'guilty pleasure' brings you to that disposition |
veninblazer
05.05.20 | I think there's another word for it. perhaps ironic enjoyment? I know there are a lot of "so bad its good" songs out there. |
aightnow
05.05.20 | people tell you nickleback sucks so you feel ashamed |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.05.20 | that's only one kind of guilty pleasure though, I think a lot of them come when you're confronted with a mix of strong positive and negative feelings and find that the positive ones just about win out |
veninblazer
05.05.20 | so its kinda like even you think it sucks but you like it at the same time so its a guilty pleasure. |
veninblazer
05.05.20 | also I love how nobody who dislikes Nickelback knows how to spell their name. |
parksungjoon
05.05.20 | if u like nickelback i recommend anthrax - worship music |
aightnow
05.05.20 | typo dude dont get too excited |

porcupinetheater
05.05.20 | I yelled at my cousins for throwing their vegetables in the trash instead of the garbage disposal. Said some really savage things, sort of things that can't be unsaid. Machine Head's The Blackening was playing in the background. They don't quite look me in the eye at the family BBQs, wish I could walk some of it back, make the argument more constructive. Still see the shock in their eyes every time I hear those riffs beginning of Beautiful Mourning. 4/5, entertaining ride, but it sometimes lacks substance. |
parksungjoon
05.05.20 | > I'm not sure of the similarities between em tbh

05.05.20 | I recently passed on 3 based on how much I didn't care for Come Clean back in the day. Snippets I heard on YT didn't really convince me I'd missed out.
Anyway, my guilty pleasures are mostly anything to do with hair metal or anthing I dug as a kid (hi, late 90s/early 2000s nu-metal bands!) Also the odd cheesy-pop song, though rarely a full album's worth (though it does happen - hi, Aqua!) |
budgie
05.05.20 | i rly love KISS and HIM and CKY and i think a lot of ppl think those bands are super lame
but watevs i do what i want |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.05.20 | "so its kinda like even you think it sucks but you like it at the same time so its a guilty pleasure."
pretty much. or maybe you don't take some parts of it seriously but think others are great (eg The Blackening lol #topical), or it might be something like BN that you like in spite of awkward context |
Trundle
05.05.20 | ya kiss is lame but they also wrote some pretty good tunes,

05.05.20 | simple plan's self titled is a great record and one of my all time fav songs is on that thing lol |

05.05.20 | Number 2 does have some fun singles
Anyways guilty pleasures for me are New Years Day whole discography (They are quite disliked), and i guess depending on the elitism in the room at the time, Babymetal would be one. and song wise "Drugs" "loosing my life" and "popular monster" by falling in reverse (I know these songs are almost universally panned)
also 93 punx is a glorious tire-fire of how to not write music, if you needed something so bad its good
|
Emim
05.05.20 | I don't really believe in guilty pleasures. If I dig some random Katy Perry song, so be it. |
Nerdurosis
05.05.20 | Hate that word. Nah fuck that, I have no shame admitting I love REO Speedwagon or Journey. |
veninblazer
05.05.20 | If Popular Monster was universally panned I have a feeling it wouldn't have stayed at #1 so long tbh @davezilla |
davezillaMP3
05.06.20 | @Veninblazer I guess that's true (truth be told I don't pay attention to charts so I just found out from you) but I assumed so because I have seen it have a similar reception to the last to FiR songs, just that it is "slightly more tolerable" |

05.06.20 | The existence of female ejaculation and the female prostate is controversial; however, most scientists are not aware that historians of medicine and psychology described the phenomenon of female ejaculation approximately 2,000 years ago. Aim. To review historical literature in which female ejaculation is described. Methods. A comprehensive systematic literature review. Main Outcome Measure. Emission of fluid at the acme of orgasm and/or sexual pleasure in females was considered as a description of female ejaculation and therefore all documents referring to this phenomenon are included. Results. Physicians, anatomists, and psychologists in both eastern and western culture have described intellectual concepts of female ejaculation during orgasm. In ancient Asia female ejaculation was very well known and mentioned in several Chinese Taoist texts starting in the 4th century. The ancient Chinese concept of female ejaculation as independent of reproduction was supported by ancient Indian writings. First mentioned in a 7th century poem, female ejaculation and the Gräfenberg spot (G-spot) are described in detail in most works of the Kāmaśāstra. In ancient Western writings the emission of female fluid is mentioned even earlier, depicted about 300 B.C. by Aristotle and in the 2nd century by Galen. Reinjier De Graaf in the 16th century provided the first scientific description of female ejaculation and was the first to refer to the periurethral glands as the female prostate. This concept was held by other scientists during the following centuries through 1952 A.D. when Ernst Gräfenberg reported on “The role of the urethra in female orgasm. Current research provides insight into the anatomy of the female prostate and describes female ejaculation as one of its functions. Conclusions. Credible evidence exists among different cultures that the female prostate and female ejaculation have been discovered, described and then forgotten over the last 2,000 years.
