Chi cheng's bass was murky as shit, they didn't use guitar solos, they used a lot of drop a and drop c and they drums had elements of hardcore and post grunge, sure they were more complex and experimental than limp bizkit or ill nino and they had elements of shoegaze and dream pop but their core sound until white pony was nu metal as shit. Tbh around the fur and white pony are the best albums crafted by deftones but koi no yokan and diamond eyes are pretty close

Sure malakian's guitars were more complex than wes borland or munky's guitar parts but still they have a murky bass, no guitar solos, influence of hardcore, post grunge and hip hop, lots of drop a, drop c and drop and also the vocals of serj were closer to the likes of alt metal, nu metal and post grunge than to the classic metal and hard rock acts, just look psycho and toxicity, there are a lot of elements also present in korn and sevendust despite of the unique elements incorporated by soad. Also the self titled and toxicity are by far the best things crafted by serj and company, specially compared with hypnotize, steal this album and scars of broadway.

Radio is too fuckin easy to avoid these days, we have spotify, deezer, pandora, itunes and more crap like that, so turn off the radio and use your fuckin smartphone or computer bitch. And if you use the radio to listen stuff like the shape of you or gucci gang, you are the reason why mainstream music today is worse than AIDS

But to be fair if mac demarco continues to produce quality music will gain more popularity tbh, and I will be ok with it
