While We Wait For OHMS

New Deftones is a whole month away. In the meantime, thought I'd throw out some recs that, for the most part, fit a similar mold.
1The Gathering
Souvenirs

A gorgeous gothic masterpiece. "Even The Spirits Are Afraid" in particular has a strong ' Tones vibe.
2The Gathering
Disclosure

Less gothic, more post-rock and just as sublime. This band deserves so much more love here. If you listen to anything here, these two are it.
3Oceansize
Frames

This album was crafted by the hand of God. I cannot believe in any other explanation for something this otherworldly good.
4Caspian
Dust and Disquiet

Always room to shower this with more love. I'm really picky when it comes to post-rock, especially stuff that is heavily instrumental but this just does everything so right.
5Everything in Slow Motion
Phoenix

A post-hardcore gem that has kind of faded into obscurity. Lots of spacy shoegaze elements here to fill the month long OHMS wait.
6Failure
In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind

One of the best grunge acts of the 90s comes back with a sprawling and magnificent opus. This is how you bring the 90s back. Nostalgic yet forward thinking.
7Suis La Lune
Riala

Still the best emo record ever written for my money. Don't let the tag scare you off, though. This is screamo with restraint, nuance, and breathtaking nocturnal beauty.
8Oceansize
Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up

A massive grower but when it hits it hits. Album art is very Deftones inspired and the music isn't too dissimilar either.
9Greet Death
New Hell

The closer on this record is absolutely colossal and the rest of the album isn't too far behind. The mixture of emo, post-rock, and shoegaze is all here.
10Pure Reason Revolution
Eupnea

The thunderous sonic textures and wonderful melodies are unparalleled from what this year has offered us this far. Dynamic, epic, and dazzling. More than a great appetizer to the album we're all waiting for.
11Hum
Downward Is Heavenward

Any Hum record is an excellent choice. Inlet is sprawling and apocalyptic but Downward is, if you'll excuse the pun, heavenly. If you haven't heard this 90s classic now's the time.
12Loser
Never Young

bloodshy rec.
13Vexes
Ancient Geometry

coldheaven rec.
I actually have heard this record. Heavy Deftones vibes with a slight hardcore bend. Good stuff.
