Between Blood and Ocean Ranked

Just to give this incredible record some more exposure.

Between Blood and Ocean

"Sweet Snow" - 5/5
This is my SOTY so far. My lord, the journey this song takes me on and the emotions it evokes are indescribable.
2Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Hekla" - 5/5
Probably my favourite vocal performance of 2019. How she sings the lyric "Dominate the landscape / Even the wind treads lightly" takes my breath away every time.
3Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Good Things Come" and "Sand Angels" - 5/5
Haunting and angelic closer. Utterly flawless.
4Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Don't Look At Me" - 4.5/5
A gritty, kicka@# rocker with an end that completely floors me.
5Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Silver Needle of Pine" - 4.5/5
Best instrumentation on the record? Absolutely.
6Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Snowflakes" - 4.5/5
Beautifully melancholic with a vocal performance to die for.
7Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"I'd Kill" - 4.5/5
Another fantastic spunky rocker. At first, I wasn't quite sure it worked coming off of "Sweet Snow," but I've come to adore the way it completely shatters expectations.
8Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Uranium City" - 4/5
An unassuming opener that in no way prepares you for what's to come. It's fairly standard indie-folk fare musically but it's top-tier indie-folk without question.
9Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"White Trees" - 4/5
Vocals effects like these rarely sit well with me but this is one of the times it does. The imagery is strong. I can see the fireworks in the distance as the album celebrates its last hurrah.
10Courtney Swain
Between Blood and Ocean

"Black Sheep" - 3.5/5
This song can feel underwhelming only because it dives back into the rock after the emotionally heavy "Hekla," but as a standalone, it's a bop.
