02.14.19 | Only thing I can suggest is to keep doing it. You can't edit a blank page, knowwhatimsayin? |
Marehelm
02.14.19 | Yeah, exactly. I'm trying to really push and write even if I don't feel like it. |

02.14.19 | I can really recommend the podcast: 'Writing Excuses'. If you start at season 10, it's a masterclass where they talk about every part of the writing process basically from scratch. I've wanted to write for years but never felt like I had an idea good enough to put to words. |

02.14.19 | Awesome, will check. Thanks man. Well, I've found that (at least so far) if I just sit down and write, my original and kinda bad and silly idea just evolves from there. |

02.14.19 | Yeah I might just have to do that. My problem is that I really want to be an outlier who wants know the story, the revelations and the twists to create something epic, because those are the stories I like to read the most. But that makes it much harder to just start and write something. |

02.14.19 | Writing a novel. I've written a couple before, all trash though. I'm 35k words into my current one.
Best advice I can give is solely to write. Write all your shitty words til the good words inevitably start coming. Keep it to yourself at first because you don't want to get all your garbage out in the wide world people to see. Write one draft then two then three then get some impartial people to proofread.
Read lots and lots and lots of all kinds, all genres, even take cues from other storytelling mediums. Decide what you like, what you dislike, learn from both. Try to understand the pacing and voice and storytelling style you want, etc. Also this is a personal one, but research should take the majority of your time. Details matter. And good luck!
P.S. don't be too concerned about the quality of your writinflg. That's what multiple drafts and edits are for. |

02.14.19 | keep writing
and keep reading the writing of people who are better
never stop reading.. |

02.14.19 | That's cool, keep it up. Writing was a healthy activity back when it worked out for me. I gave it up too, ain't much support around those areas, so best I can say is fuck 'em and write.! |

02.14.19 | That's nice! I only write poetry from time to time. |

02.14.19 | Read a lot and think about why exactly you like or dislike something. And just write, don't think too much about it. Once you have a first draft of a scene or story, you should let it be for sime time and then read it again. The reader's perspective is a little different and you'll notice stuff you can refine.
Overall: Take your time with these things.
These are just some general points. |

02.14.19 | Cool, I'm trying to write too! I'd say we're both making progress with that word count! Personally I suggest to *not* be afraid to stop and go edit a part that you wrote in the previous pages. I see that a lot of people say that it's a bad habit to go back to edit before finishing a draft but I don't believe it. If it gets you more involved, do it!
Also I think that it's okay to stop and don't write for a little while, you won't get anywhere if you are tired or if you need some reasoning about what to do.
don't be too concerned about the quality of your writinflg. That's what multiple drafts and edits are for. [2] remember that for now you are just telling the story to yourself to see if it can work. |

02.14.19 | So here's the thing, I worked as a script reader for a while and I found that the biggest mistake people do is that they get lazy. I mean, they get tired of what they write and eventually don't want to re-read it again. I know it's tiring to revisit something for the dozenth time, but you can never have enough proofreading. Many young writers are thrown into garbage cans, just because they were too tired to read their work just one more time to check their grammar, plot continuity or just plain out-of-character moments or technical formatting bloopers. |
