Also very good for posting soundoff length reviews as memory joggers or whatever.
RYM best for filtering and searching for new albums, and best for making lists you want to update over time.
Sputnik best format for chat by a mile it isn’t even close, esp if you aren’t someone who wants to get involved in sub forums and all that stuff. |

It's a pretty unique place a bit more personal than reddit but more anonymous than other social media and it feels a bit like the last of the mohicans in that respect so hopefully it doesn't die. 11.19.24 | I ditched Sput for RYM during one of the big outages in like 2018 that wiped over 1k additions I made to the database and it's very different as others have already said above. It's a much better catalogue and if you are purely interested in finding new music it's pretty much unparalleled, but if you are looking for a community it's going to be pretty sparse. There's a forum and people comment back and forth on albums/lists/profiles but unless you actively start those conversations they never happen. AOTY is closer to Sput functionally but every time I look at that site it takes me 5 minutes at most before I start seeing really annoying conversations |

11.19.24 | I've seriously considered Rate Your Music. It's a much better way to discover music than sputnik. Sputnik needs someone to review the album or put it on a list in order for it to be seen at all. But my problem with RYM is the downside is that reviews have fallen to the wayside, and the superior database simply means that reviewing albums means that yours is more likely to be buried. Also RYM is very convoluted in adding anything, and it's more inaccessible that way. I don't communicate to the community as much here as its more difficult, and I am disappointed there is no forum and we have to communicate on music lists.
TDLR: pros and cons, but I do want to stay here as my reviews get more recognition, and it's much easier to add music to the database. |

If you're for real and you're on Chrome you can go into the settings and check the passwords section, enter the password to your computer if there is one and it'll display all the auto-filled fields and Sput should be on the list. |

As people have mentioned the communities can be more toxic. I know server costs exist but I feel that this site, for now, gets enough traction and money from ad revenue to justify keeping it up. Then when you got past all that it would start running slower and slower and we all knew that meant it was about to go down for days at a time, the security certs went unpaid, and MX finally renewed them and the site limped along to this point dropping the forums, account creation, and account recovery in the process.
