Musicians I respect

Extreme metal icon Tom Warrior said 'we are now delving back into medieval times. Weapons, and war, and animal abuse, and mass killings of human beings and animals, and destruction of the environment, they’re all rampant'. I have a great respect for his world view and empathy for all living beings. On this list you find more musicians who exhibit concern for animal rights and our planet. Respect to them!
1Triptykon
Melana Chasmata

Tom Warrior is one of metal's icons, not only for being a creative and terrifying musician, but also because of his ethical, dark world view.
2Cattle Decapitation
Monolith of Inhumanity

Travis Ryan en Josh Elmore are the champions of life embracing misanthropy. The band celebrate a vegan, non-violent world vision, translated into relentless, stunning music.
3Kreator
Gods of Violence

Kreator's universe is centered around violence. Although singer Mille Petrozza is a vegan and a defender of animal rights, the message of the band is clear: Satan (humanitiy, the government) is Real
4Black Sabbath
Master of Reality

Geezer Butler and Bill Ward are both vegetarians (or even vegan) and devoted to a life without cruelty, although the band can not be defined as politically engaged, the song Children of the Grave is characteristic of their black tinted intention.
5Warlock
Burning the Witches

Metal Queen Doro Pesch is an animal loving, optimistic advocate of vegetarianism, animal rights and a forceful charming singer since the early 80's!
6Plasmatics
Coup d'Etat

Wendy O'Williams, the fear inflicting, chainsawing nightmare of the bourgeois, was a very friendly, intelligent woman with a great heart for animal rights. Her life style included a vegetarian diet, working as a wildlife rehabilitator and being a natural foods activist. Her fearless and provocative attitude and characteristic hoarse voice are still iconic. So Beware!
7Carcass
Surgical Steel

Bill Steer and Jeff Walker from the cynically named band Carcass condemn the excesses in meat industry and are therefore devoted vegetarians. The song 'Captive Bolt Pistol' sums it all up.
8Grave Digger
The Clans Will Rise Again

Axel Ritt is the vegan guitar player of the power metal band, even though the lyrics and music are cheesy! He is active as animal rights activist and promotes a vegan way of life. Furthermore, he is a very good guitar player!
9Arch Enemy
Khaos Legions

Angela Gossow and Alissa White-Gluz are both powerful women advocating animal rights and a vegan life style. The song 'Cruelty without Beauty' accuses the needless horrors of vivisection.
10Napalm Death
From Enslavement to Obliteration

Singer Barney Greenway of Napalm Death protests strongly against the meat industry, war, poverty and the failure of the human race in general. 'Display to Me' is about animal abuse.
11The Smiths
Meat Is Murder

Band leader Morissey is very certain about his position: Meat is Murder!
12Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
I Love Rock & Roll

Joan Jett is a very amiable person, vegetarian and animal rights activist. Her love for animals led her to give meat the boot, but she later discovered the health and environmental benefits as well. As a singer she is only rock 'n roll but I like it.
13Paul McCartney
Off the Ground

'Looking for Changes' is about cruel treatment of test animals used for science experiments. McCartney has been a vegetarian for nearly 40 years and a very active member of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), but some people may also know him as one of the fab four from Liverpool.
14Lamb of God
As the Palaces Burn

Chris Adler and John Campbell are both vegetarians. The song 'Ruin' is very dark, calling forth what leads to the art of ruin.
15Heaven Shall Burn
Antigone

This all-vegan band scream and thunder about our inhumanity. 'Voice of the Voiceless' is dedicated to all living beings who need our respect.
16Samael
Ceremony Of Opposites

Beautiful, powerful brooding album by the Swiss masters of doom. Singer Vorph is a vegetarian and refuses to eat junk food.
17Deadlock
Manifesto

Vegan band from Germany, totally devoted to animal rights and a healthy vegan life.
18Bolt Thrower
Those Once Loyal

Barry Thomson and Jo-Anne Bench are vegetarians. The band is obsessed with warfare and battles, history of humanity in short.
19Nina Hagen
Nina Hagen Band

She's one of punk's most notorious vegetarians In 1986 she performed the song 'Don't kill the Animals' with Lene Lovich, another vegetarian singer.
20Crass
Stations of the Crass

Anarcho punk with a lot of anger, engagement, animal rights, politics and still nice to listen to! Well written lyrics confronting the hypocritical world with an unconvenient Truth
