McTime's Jan 2018
here's what I enjoyed, checked out, and/or reviewed this month. if i missed anything i didn't get around to checking, let me know! i missed a bunch of stuff this month. |
1 | | Jeff Rosenstock POST-
It's just such a good feeling when one of your favorite artists decides to drop their next album early in the year, but this? A surprise album drop 4 am on new years day? Jeff is crazy man, and for that I will forever cherish him as my honorary chubby uncle who can do no wrong. Lots of punk jams, synths all over it, jeffs vocals coming through as passionate as ever. my only hope is that since it was literally released first of the year that people wont forget it by the end of the year. i know i wont.

2 | | When We Land Introvert's Plight
kudos to Sowing and his mission to bring to light the more underground indie stuff. if it brings out more gems like this one then all the better!
4/5 |
3 | | Tonight Alive Underworld
jenna and co decide to right the wrongs from limitless to make something akin to a return to form. vocals are heavenly as expected and the instrumentation is once again just a tad more interesting than their peers.

4 | | tUnE-yArDs I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life
i haven't heard of these guys before this month, but damn is this some eccentric and bouncy indie pop. diving into their discog, it seems this newer album isn't as good as previous; its a good album nonetheless

a little too sugary and accessible for its own good, but for sure some enjoyable moments to be found
2.5/5 |
8 | | Super Whatevr Never Nothing
the little emo band that could from hopeless records comes out swinging with an amazing (by my standards and enjoyment levels) debut album
4.5/5 |
9 | | Speak Low If You Speak Love Nearsighted
a side project out of state champs, the first album was a showcase of potential. Nearsighted is where that potential pays off. multiple interesting and engaging cuts on this album, acoustic and electronic elements galore.

10 | | Cane Hill Too Far Gone
catchy, sometimes interesting nu-metal music from 2018.

two songs that are pleasing to the ears, nothing more nothing less.

12 | | Mike Shinoda Post Traumatic
Chester's death probably has hit no one harder than it has hit Mike Shinoda. small 3 track ep detailing feelings of regret and anxiety. this is a good step for him to try and figure out where to go from here.

the most consistent act in emo/math-rock come through with another amazing album, filled with guitar tapping and catchy choruses
