12.20.18 | Only seen1-6, but
6 > 5 > 2 > 3 > 1 > 4 |
Bazman
12.20.18 | I'd swap 1&2 and also 3&4. Great list. Maura McHugh has written a decent movie monograph of fire walk with me, well worth a read |
JoeTex
12.20.18 | 9 too low. bobby peru... like the country |
Thalassic
12.20.18 | To be fair, a lot of it is colored by nostalgia (as is often the case with me).
First time I watched 1 when I was a kid is ingrained in my memory as one of the greatest moments of my life. One that will no doubt dethrone my marriage or the birth of my first child.

12.20.18 | @JoeTex
I love that Bobby Peru character, but the movie as a whole makes me cringe a bit too much to my liking |
JeetJeet
12.20.18 | For me it goes 1, 2, 4, 3....keep the rest. Haven't seen Inland Empire yet tho. |
JohnnyoftheWell
12.21.18 | Wild At Heart is the best cringe, I've always seen it as self-aware and outright hilarious. Not quite as on board with the Lost Highway Love, and Inland Empire could use a boost but the shape of this is good |
Rowan5215
12.21.18 | Fire Walk With Me is his best but Lost Highway always needs some more love |
SharkTooth
12.21.18 | I'm binging Twin Peaks and am gonna watch Fire Walk With Me right after the 2nd season
what movie of his should I watch next? I'm thinking between Mulholland Drive or Eraserhead but honestly I'm open to anything of his |
rabidfish
12.21.18 | Elephant Man >>> Straight story
Inland empire is a mastahpiece, need to rewatch it, tho, but i remember being blown away by it... Pure art. |

12.21.18 | Shark watch Lost Highway. Its wild as fuck |

03.26.19 | Inland Empire has grown to be my favorite. but im glad that lost highway is your #1. that one is also underrated |
TheSonomaDude
03.26.19 | 2 is 1 imo, but magnificent director with several outstanding works |

03.26.19 | Wild at heart is too low. Hard to rank lynch movies tho |

03.26.19 | i still hav no idea what to make of inland empire lmao |

03.26.19 | Some thoughts have a certain sound, that being the equivalent to a form. Through sound and motion you will be able to paralyze nerves, shatter bones, set fires, suffocate an enemy or burst his organs. |

03.26.19 | Inland Empire terrified me but I'm pretty certain I liked it |

03.26.19 | 4 and 5 are my favourites, closely followed by 2. |

03.26.19 | I'm rewatching all of twin peaks for like the 7th time right now cuz my partner hasn't seen it. Cant wait to watch the new season for the 3rd hime |
DrGonzo1937
03.26.19 | Mulholland drive is still my fave. Dune is literally the only film he’s done that isn’t very good. |
Zig
03.26.19 | Eraserhead is Lynch’s best film, imo. |
Rik VII
03.26.19 | Inland Empire is my favorite and one of my favorite films in general. Mulholland Drive second and then there's a wall of masterpieces and I just can't decide. Mind-blowingly amazing filmography. He's one of my favorites. Dune and Wild At Heart are the only ones I can't stand, but I see why people like the latter for its campiness.
I also loved Twin Peaks 3. It was amazing to see him and Frost take that series to completely new places after such a long absence from it. |
GodLovesUgly
07.14.19 | Great stuff, I'd go
Mulholland Drive
Blue Velvet
Lost Highway
The Elephant Man
Eraserhead
Inland Empire
Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me
Twin Peaks (The Return), yes I'll count it as a long movie.
The Straight Story
Wild At Heart
Haven't seen Dune. |

Yea no, thats wrong. |

07.14.19 | Just rewatched the first half hour and final scene of Wild at Heart and that shit is underrated |
Trebor.
07.14.19 | Odd. Lost Highway is probably his least inspired and least interesting, especially considering Mulholland Drive and to a lesser extent Inland Empire and Twin Peaks cover similar things but much better |
Rowan5215
07.14.19 | nah Lost Highway is an underappreciated classic, it's not his best but deserves the love on this list |
Trebor.
07.14.19 | Would def recommend David Foster Wallace's piece on LH and Lynch |
Rowan5215
07.14.19 | I think I read that a minute ago but I don't remember if I agreed with it or not. there is some crazy context around that movie though, like one of the actors getting done for murder or somethin |
Trebor.
07.14.19 | lol yeah Robert Blake dude, that trial really stuck out to me growing up for whatever reason. Never even saw a movie with him in it till Lost Highway years later |
Rowan5215
07.14.19 | oh him for sure, there was actually something else I was thinking of tho, I think one of the actors who plays the cops who just ride around making wisecracks had a story? been so long |
Rowan5215
07.14.19 | Blake is absolutely iconic in that role tho, one of my favourite performance in any Lynch film |
Trebor.
07.14.19 | yeah he's the best part.
I think my biggest problem with LH is I don't like the main character at all |
naughtcturnal
07.14.19 | Love the Eraserhead criterion |
EyesWideShut
07.14.19 | Straight Story is my fav.. Lost Highway is a nu-metal classic |
Gyromania
07.14.19 | i'm one of the few people here who thinks eraserhead is his best. but tbh i don't remember much of mullholland and i don't think i've ever seen all of lost highway |
Larkinhill
07.14.19 | Man, I fucking LOVE Lost Highway, but Mulholland Drive IS his masterpiece. No ifs, ands or buts. And he’ll never top it.
Elephant Man and B Velvet are up there too. You have E Man WAAAAY too low. Honestly wasn’t a big fan of Inland but should watch it again. |
Larkinhill
07.14.19 | Great stuff, I'd go
Mulholland Drive
Blue Velvet
Lost Highway
The Elephant Man
Eraserhead
Inland Empire
Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me
Twin Peaks (The Return), yes I'll count it as a long movie.
The Straight Story
Wild At Heart
Haven't seen Dune.
This is pretty damn close to my ranking as well. You smart. |
Thalassic
07.14.19 | Lost Highway is my fave, but it's out of nostalgic reasons more than anything.
To clarify, except for Dune (which I never go back to), I like all of his movies and depending on my mood the ranking can change. |
Thalassic
07.14.19 | "there is some crazy context around that movie though, like one of the actors getting done for murder or somethin"
There's plenty of messed up connections to be drawn to that movie. For instance, aside from Robert Blake, one of the detectives in the movie is played by Louis Eppolito. In the 80's, together with his partner Stephen Caracappa, Eppolito was a detective at the NYPD but the duo started doing hits for Anthony Casso (who at that time was the underboss for the Lucchese mafia family in NYC). Eppolito and Caracappa were brought into connection with at least 7 murders and were regarded as full fledged associates of the Mob. This didn't really come to light until 2005 or so though. |
Aerisavion
07.14.19 | Great. Now I want to watch Twin Peaks again.
Not that that’s a bad thing or anything.... |
Rowan5215
07.14.19 | thank you, Thalassic, that's where I was trying to get but couldn't remember the details. really adds another unnerving sheen to the film. |
Rowan5215
07.14.19 | if we're counting The Return as one long movie it's honestly #1 spot for me. one of the greatest seasons of TV of all time, and possibly THE greatest experience of watching TV I've had. |
DrGonzo1937
07.14.19 | it's funny that this has come up; I literally saw his art exhibition on Monday and have been running through his filmography with my wife (she hasn't seen these movies before).
Mulholland Drive is still my favourite, but I absolutely love the vibes in Lost Highway. Dune is the only real stinker. |
Aerisavion
07.14.19 | Dune may be utter shite, yet I can’t help but fondly remember having it playing over and over again in the background of my Dune 2000 RTS days... |
whalebone
07.14.19 | Mulholland Drive is one of the best films ever. |
rabidfish
07.14.19 | Dune is a good movie, just doesnt feel like a DL movie at all... I still dig it. Got some amazing, old school wardrobe and set design. |
Larkinhill
07.14.19 | Mulholland Drive is one of the best films ever.
Yeah it’s in my top ten for sure. |
Aerisavion
07.14.19 | “Got some amazing, old school wardrobe and set design.”
Soundtrack is fucking gorgeous too. |
StallionMang
07.15.19 | mulholland drive is one of my very favorite movies of all time but i think he might have even topped it with the return |
