Dance Gavin Dance Album Art...RANKED

Bored as hell so decided to rank the various album art from DGD's discography. Almost all of the album art is created by Mattias Adolfsson, who does amazing work. I am only including full-length albums and some single album arts at my choosing. No instrumental albums included because they are just recolors of the regular album art.

Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean

While I can appreciate that this is original artwork done by Jon Mess, it stands out as an outlier amongst the DGD discography. The balance of browns and orange are nice, but nothing that is striking visually.
13Dance Gavin Dance
Downtown Battle Mountain II

I used to like this album art a lot, but after looking at it again, it is extremely busy and, when viewing a smaller image of the album art, is almost indecipherable. Too messy, too much white/black balance. Not my favorite.

DEATHSTAR. but that's it... for DGD standards, pretty basic.
11Dance Gavin Dance
Artificial Selection

I like the inclusion of the animals and creatures known within the DGD universe, but besides the main tree in the middle, there isn't a whole lot going on. Also fuck gradients.
10Dance Gavin Dance
Afterburner

The first album to include "Gavin" on the cover (the bull). It's cool, but I may have a negativity bias towards this album as a whole because it is weeeeak.
9Dance Gavin Dance
Tree City Sessions 2

I love the balance of blues and purples amongst the crowd, and as they did on TCS1, they included the band as universe characters. Besides that, it's a little one-dimensional according to DGD standards that I just made up.

Instant Gratification

The battle between flesh and steel!

Acceptance Speech 2.0

I put 2.0 in place of the original art work because I feel that it is far superior. GIANT ROBOT ON STAGE GIVING HIS ACCEPTANCE SPEECH. Representative of the massive improvement from the original album to 2.0, both visually and sonically.
6Dance Gavin Dance
Head Hunter/Blood Wolf

There is so much to look at on this album art, and it is currently my PC wallpaper. Really colorful and filled with a lot of whimsy.
5Dance Gavin Dance
People You Knew/Perfect

This might be a controversial one because it's a not-often-used album art for the band, and is art from a Hot Topic exclusive single release. However, crocodile characters in the DGD universe are GOAT and this cover has THREE. Simple, but effective.
4Dance Gavin Dance
Tree City Sessions

Chaos incarnate. Really representative of how going to a DGD show feels. The balance of reds, browns and oranges really pop and give this a really pleasing effect.
3Dance Gavin Dance
Mothership

Probably the most recognizable and most beloved album amongst the discography. I'm not so keen on the big infinity symbol however the striking difference between the sky and ground/mountain landscape is appealing and makes for a pleasant viewing experience. Among all the DGD albums, this art builds a more macro perspective of the view of the universe these characters live in.
2Dance Gavin Dance
Downtown Battle Mountain

This one might be controversial. It is basic, sepia tone, and doesn't have a lot going on. HOWEVER, I feel that this album set the stage for all the albums that came after it, and marks the beginning of DGD's rise to fame. This is the album older fans look back to as the one that got them into the band, and probably has a special place in people's hearts (like mine).

Happiness

The quintessential DGD album art. Insanely colorful, containing a lot of character, joy and dare I say happiness? Also, person in boat is GOAT, and strangely enough the best album art belongs to the best album they've ever released. FIGHT ME ON THAT.
