07.09.18 | First Ghost album I've ever heard. Heck of a banger, some really fun and emotional stuff on there. Like A Storm dropped an album a couple years back that was largely forgettable, but for myself, this one does push the bar higher. Breaking Benjamin is my second favorite band so that ranking probably does come packed with bias, but I thought it pushed the band in a darker, heavier direction while also experimenting with cuts like "The Dark of You" and "Tourniquet". I know the BFMV will piss most people off, and look, I get it. The fans that dug the more metalcore/hardcore sound of the band were probably taken aback, and I know that a lot of people here don't dig the mainstream. Nothing wrong with that... Gravity is an album though that has stuff that I like. Synths mixed with guitars, big choruses, mix of melody and screaming, and it isn't all that technical. I've never been one for the technical stuff. Shinedown's Attention Attention is a STUNNING return to form after Threat To Survival, and it melds the pop and R&B influences on the band with their typical hard rock sound quite well. The FFDP effort will also be controversial, but I'll say this: I dig their riffs, I like Moody's vocals a lot, and I like the covers. I think the ballads are improved as well and some of the heavy tracks did let me down. Some of the lyrics are pretty weak but I get and relate to the emotion behind them. Davis' effort was actually pretty wicked too, nothing amazing, but not bad in the least bit. Pretty much felt the same about Skindred's Big Tings, though Big Tings is better than Volume for me. I really enjoyed Godsmack's 1000hp album, and When Legends Rise, while good, was a letdown for me. Still, there are some pretty strong riffs and choruses, and some cool electronic moments too. Push Pull, excepting the opening track, is basically just a Maroon 5 clone. | BlackwaterPork
