DinosaurJones
02.24.16 | I mean, it all really depends too. Do you just want to learn how to jam out a few songs, or do you want to learn how to write music and theory and all that junk? |
doomjitsu
02.24.16 | well, how to write music and theory and all that junk in perspective |
DinosaurJones
02.24.16 | Yeah, in that case you want to get lesson books like Mel Bay or Alfred's or something like that. |
Hep Kat

02.24.16 | some real fresh rhymes there hep (or foreigner for that matter)
my first gutiar was an epiphone les paul special ii. not a great guitar, but a pretty decent starter, seeing you can get an alright tone, and it's WAY better than a squier.
Maybe try to get lessons? I taught myself over a year period just by listening to music, but i wouldn't follow my own advice when it comes to everything. Try hard enough, and you will be able to play decently well. Be determined, my friend! |

02.24.16 | Ummmm bubs is u srs???

DinosaurJones
02.24.16 | Yeah, definitely take lessons. At least for a little while. |

Final Origin
02.24.16 | I've played for around 14 years. Started off the first 3 months with beginner lessons with some easy books that taught me how to play Nirvana songs and stuff. Then decided to self teach myself ever since. Takes a lot of patience and hard work, but everything pays off once you are committed. Just try to play your favourite songs, it will keep you motivated. |

02.24.16 | Shit hep is back |

02.24.16 | Nice. I have a Fender Squier acoustic, but I've barely used it. My motivation sucks hah. |

02.24.16 | Definitely take lessons for a few months! I was told after three years of working out my own way of playing based off books between the ages of 10-12 that I was holding the pick the wrong way and my thumb position on the back of the neck was all wrong and it took me years to get out of these old habits! Really simple mistakes can really set you back! |
minty901
02.24.16 | Get an electric. Way easier to start with for a beginner than an acoustic. Acoustics are bulky and uncomfortable; harder to stretch for chords; harder to press strings down when fretting. Unless you really want to play acoustic music, I'd recommend a Fender Squier Strat starter pack with guitar+amp or something. Or get a cheap strat knockoff. |
Nocturnalize
02.24.16 | I hate when somebody makes one of these lists and it turns out they bought an acoustic. It's not the 1920's anymore go electric son |
Drummerboy123
02.24.16 | I just started learning, got a fender strat and it's going alright. Recorded some ideas I've had. I haven't even learned proper chords yet, just making my own up and teaching myself as well as dicking around with different tunings. |
doomjitsu
02.25.16 | in russia it's always around 1920's |
Nocturnalize
02.25.16 | damn your from russia?
i'm surprised you even have internet access |
doomjitsu
02.25.16 | not only i have it, but the saying "the strictness of the Russian law is compensated by the lack of necessity to follow it" fits perfectly (unless you try to fuck around with the government) |
Tyler.
02.25.16 | I disagree with whoever says to buy an electric first. Acoustic may be harder at first but it helps you get good technique down first so it helps when you transition idk just my opinion . Wish I started on an acoustic guitar but w/e |

BandNewbac
02.25.16 | start by learning basic open chords, like E A D G F C then try playing some simple acoustic songs you like and go from there. if you want to learn to read music go to musictheory.net, its pretty much the most comprehensive place on the internet for music theory |

02.25.16 | mx tabs all the way lol |

02.25.16 | fuck life and fuck me playing guitar i hate it |
VheissuCrisis
02.25.16 | Have a few lessons otherwise you'll only have to re-learn technique like I did after 4 years. It's a pain in the ass having to re-learn. Find out what style you like and stick with it, nobody can be a master of everything. I enjoy fingerstyle because it feels organic, so I find myself picking the Taylor up all the time. My strat rarely gets touched now. |
DinosaurJones
02.25.16 | It takes work, man. It takes time and practice. If you're not willing to commit to it, then I would say it's not for you. No point in forcing yourself to do it if you're not getting any enjoyment out of it. |
doomjitsu
02.25.16 | well, i'm trying to enjoy it, but i just can't ignore the fact that it sounds wrong, it fucks with me mentally, i really hope that practice will actually help eventually |
Nocturnalize
02.25.16 | If you can take a few lessons, you'll learn to tune your guitar, how to play a few chords, read tabs and that'll be a good starting point. |
