Just noticed a common, though (obviously) coincidental trend of the number three on my profile: 999 comments (after three or so years on this site), 333 ratings, six reviews, and, of course, now three lists. I've never had a good excuse to make a list, so this is as good as any. So, here's some things I've been digging. | 1 | | XXXTENTACION ItWasntEnough
Hip-Hop | 3.2
Of course, this is far from XXXTentacion's best work. Between Look at Me!, various singles, and his work with $ki Mask the Slump God as part of the Members Only collective, the young rapper has a lot more to offer than this EP. Then again, it seems he has a lot more to offer than the whole of his short career. Hopefully, he'll decide to keep his nose for long enough to reach whatever potential he has. | 2 | | Perfume Genius Put Your Back N 2 It
Art Pop | 4.6
A tad underrated here on Sputnik I find, Mike Hadreas sad blend of contemporary folk and pop music is as despondent as it is uplifting. | 3 | | David Bazan Care
Indie Rock, Electropop(?) | 3.4
I've never been a huge fan of Pedro the Lion, but the charm of David Bazan is undeniable. In particular, on this more electronic-based album, David moves through a range of subtle, though nonetheless despondent beats, crooning in an almost prophetic tone. A lot of the songs towards the backend are mere shadows of the greatness that is the opener and title-track, but it's shortness lends to its charm, and there's a blunt catchiness to much of it. | 4 | | WATERMEDOWN Somewhere Sleepless
Alternative Rock, Emo | 3.7
"Hello spectator! (Farewell serenity!) / I could shout less but then you'd just talk over me / And I need attention." Connor's review does this EP more justice than my few words can. | 5 | | Sun Kil Moon Common As Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood
Indie Rock, Folk | 4.4
Just like the next album (and even more so in its case), discussion of this can feel too pointless at times. Such is art about art, I presume. | 6 | | Mount Eerie A Crow Looked At Me
Folk | 4.2 | 7 | | Camp Cope/Cayetana Split
Indie Rock | 3.6
Georgia Maq and co. finally found artists who could their own on a split release with her. Once more, there's something left to be desired from Camp Cope, but that doesn't stop them from being their solid selves. | 8 | | Sampha Process
Alternative R&B, Electronic | 4.0
One of the most solid projects so far of 2017. Timmy's Song joins Blood On Me in its frantic bliss. | 9 | | Wicca Phase Springs Eternal STOP TORTURING ME
Hip-Hop(?), Emo | 4.2
What might go down as, perhaps not the best, but my most listened to album of this year. Cannot possibly talk more about this than I already have, though. | 10 | | Peter Silberman Impermanence
Rock | 3.0
I'd be willing to oversell this, just because Karuna and New York floor me on each listen, but I'd be lying if I didn't say a significant enough portion of this bores me. Sowing's review is perfect. | 11 | | NAH HIVER EN NEUF MORCEAUX
Industrial, Hip Hop(?) | 4.1
As great as a lot of NAH's back catalogue is, I'm glad to see him toning down on the (albeit limited) Death Grips influence and becoming more conceptual in his work. I hate the capitals in the titles, but I might also review this, because it's fantastic. | 12 | | Your Old Droog Packs
Hip-Hop | 3.6
Just heard this a couple of hours ago so I've no idea how to fit it into his catalogue; I'd argue on first impression this might be his best, though. | 13 | | King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Flying Microtonal Banana
Psychedelic, Rock | 3.9
Before I'm called out for it, I need to listen to Nonagon Infinity. | 14 | | Swet Shop Boys Cashmere
Hip Hop, unfortunately | 1.0
More than a little personal bias here: it hurts a little to listen to aspects of my culture appropriated so disappointingly; it feels too inauthentic to even consider this album. I can't stand it. I'm hoping if anyone's listened to it they'll explain to me what they like about it, though. Which isn't a challenge, I'm genuinely curious, only because I can't look past the immediate aesthetic, which admittedly offends me. | 15 | | Turnover Peripheral Vision
Emo, Dream Pop | 2.3
While I'm at it, this is another album I wish I liked a lot more than I do. It's unfortunate because I don't think it's bad at all, I'm just so underwhelmed and bored by it. Admittedly, I Would Hate You If I Could still gets stuck in my head, though. | 16 | | The Exploration Basement Demo
Emo | 4.2
Glad I stumbled upon this, it's one of the best emo releases I've ever encountered; it's not something I often want to listen to, but if I give enough time between listens, it shakes me. | 17 | | Des Ark Everything Dies
Indie Folk, Pop | 4.0
Comparable to the likes of Regina Spektor and Joanna Newsom, though perhaps falling into a happier median between the two, and armed with a whole lot more darkness in humour and charm, Des Ark is an oft-overlooked force in the genre. | 18 | | Pinegrove Mixtape One
Folk, Alternative Rock | 3.7
Of course, most people have (hopefully) hear Cardinal by now, but this is an interesting listen for anyone interested in the band's roots. Evan's initial performance of The Metronome on this is one of the most endearing performances under the band's name. | |

03.24.17 | 999th comment. I'm tired, thought I'd post a list since I won't be able to write a review for a while. :] Hope everyone who read this is well. | Dedes
03.24.17 | I reached 1000 comments yesterday and of course it was on a list of a guy called wienercum | BlushfulHippocrene
03.24.17 | @king, I just searched wienercum on google and have no idea why I expected not to see porn. Respectable enough, though.
And damn, wish I'd realised that unintentional reference before I posted this. | hogan900

03.24.17 | I really wish I did, too. :c I've been returning to it once in a while in the hopes it'll grow on me, but there's just something about it that refuses to capture me. And thanks a lot! Let me know if you end up giving it another shot, I really do think it's fantastic. | Grimlin
