| My Top 5 Albums That Feature Tom Delonge
Love me some based Delonge. Easily one of my favorite musicians, flaws and all. | 1 | | Angels and Airwaves The Dream Walker
I feel as though this is an all time high for Tom's career. Though it wasn't marketed as boldly as previous AvA albums, that has little to do with just how incredible it is to hear how Tom has progressed from pretentious space rock to something much more different. And this time different is good. Not just good, but fucking great. Ilan Rubin really helped bring Tom to a whole new level with this. There's all sorts of influences throughout this album. Tom manages to still mature, but this time, he brings a certain professionalism to the plate, especially seen in his songwriting. Everything from the 90's power chords you hear in tracks such as "Teenagers and Rituals", and the bizarre but catchy "Bullets In The Wind", Or even the 80's style Depeche Mode-like "Kiss With a Spell". The album is truly diverse compared to Tom's previous work with AvA. And boy, he sure still knows how to write a catchy chorus. | 2 | | Box Car Racer Box Car Racer
It was a tough decision between this and Blink-182's self-titled release. But I believe Tom's side project Box Car Racer takes the cake. Tom and the band delivered something familiar to Blink, but it offered something more in depth for listeners than they had previously heard. The noticeable difference was the further progression into mature songwriting and instrumentals, basically perfecting the formula that was Blink-182. | 3 | | Blink-182 Blink-182
Who seen this coming? I don't think a lot of people really knew what was in store for them when Blink released their self-titled album. Many were in shock and awe at how they evolved from degenerate pop punk heart-throbs, into an emo pop punk force to be reckoned with. The album as a whole delivered a memorable experience on almost every track. "Violence" being my favorite track on the album, just showed what made Blink-182 stand out from the rest of the pop-punk era that was then and followed after. But this doesn't go without saying that some fans were divided when this released. Some felt that Blink had taken a turn for the worse. Though the wide success of this album shows that it struck a chord with old and new fans alike. | 4 | | Blink-182 Enema of the State
That moment I felt as though Blink had found that middle ground between a streamlined sound and a raw approach. It was easy to see why this album gathered a much larger fanbase for Blink. It was still considerably "punk" compared to Blink's previous work. Even though many would fail to see Blink as anything but punk because of their adolecant tone. Regardless, they delivered one of their most memorable albums that still rocked hard, and is still to this day arguably the most defining album for Blink. | 5 | | Angels and Airwaves Chasing Shadows
True, it's not an album, but an EP. Following "The Dream Walker", Tom continues to polish his new formula. And man it sounds so good. This EP will most likely approach Self-titled Blink era fans and "We Don't Need To Whisper" era fans. With a total of four tracks, I find myself returning to this repeatedly. All four tracks are memorable and express different approaches. While three tracks offer those catchy guitar riffs that are extremely reminiscent of the old days, the track "Chasing Shadows" offers a powerful chorus and an interesting choice of lyrics. It may sound ridiculous to say this about a Tom Delong song, but it's beautiful. | |

05.21.16 | I wish blink would expand upon s/t and neighborhoods instead of returning to generic pop-punk | DoofusWainwright
05.21.16 | Just what sort of a man is Tom Delonge anyway | MrGarland
05.21.16 | @DoofusWainwright He's rather pretentious, but he's a very creative individual. He writes sci-fi novels, makes music of course, owns a few clothing line companies, and other stuff. I've met him in person and he's a genuine fellow. He's also into conspiracy theories and what not. | MrGarland
05.21.16 | @Owantjaaaa YES! that's what I thought when I heard "Bored To Death" it was extremely underwhelming and felt like it had been done before by other generic pop punk bands.
Blink won't be the same without Tom. | Clumseee
05.21.16 | Damn man. Is that AVA record really that good?
I've always loved the musical side of AVA, but the lyrics have been so god awful and cringy that I can't do it.
I honestly think he can be a great lyricist, as shown on Blink's s/t and Box Car Racer. But man, in AVA I'm always rolling my eyes. | Stereochrome1
05.21.16 | Blink's best stuff to me was always the s/t and Neighborhoods. They're more interesting to listen to other than reliving nostalgia of Dude Ranch, Enema, and TOYPAJ. | MrGarland
05.22.16 | @Clumseee Give The Dream Walker a try, it's completely different | MrGarland
05.22.16 | @stereochrome1 I love Self Titled, always will. But I kind of overhyped Neighborhoods. To me it felt like it lacked the love their previous album had. Kind of like they were forcing themselves to make an album. |
