Final Fantasy Ranked Compendium

Pretty self-explanatory. I'm ranking the games as I play through the franchise in its entirety for the first time.

Final Fantasy IX: Original Soundtrack

My girlfriend got me into this one. She told me of this beautiful world full of colorful characters, a great battle system and amazing music. Well, IX was all that and more. The ability system in this game is nuts. It's great how you learn different abilities permanently through different equipment you obtain through out the story. The dungeons are short, sweet and to the point. The characters are wonderful. Zidane and Vivi are adorable. I also love Steiner. Anywho, this one goes over VI due to its great pacing. VI is amazing, but the last little bit feels kind of like it's dragging. This one never lets up. I felt like the grind was way less, as well. By the end, my party was 65-72 and I barely did any grinding. Definitely my favorite RPG. Go play this. It's on the Switch.

Final Fantasy VI: Original Soundtrack

Although my first taste of the franchise was VII, I wanted to start my marathon with the 6th entry. Originally III here in the west, FFVI is a true masterpiece. Not only gameplay wise, the story and the many character portraits and backstories in this game are phenomenal. You don't have one protag, you have several. Obviously, Terra is still the main but the others are just as important. Btw, Kefka is THE Final Fantasy antagonist, such a detestable villain. Anywho, play this game

Final Fantasy VII: Original Soundtrack

VII was my first plunge into Final Fantasy. I got it as soon as it came out on PSN in 2009. Keep in mind, this was my first actual JRPG experience. I was never able to finish it due to faulty hardware at the time. Until now of course. Cloud's adventures both physically and mentally are a blast. The controls have not aged terribly well, but the rest of the game is fantastic. I have an issue with not being able to bring a fourth character into my party, also not being able to switch Cloud out most of the time is a bummer. The ATB is as great as ever. Limit Breaks are fun. The music is just timeless, especially Cloud's theme. Some people take issue with this game's pacing but I actually think the pacing here is better than VI.

[Getting this on Switch when it comes out next month]
