04.17.25 | shame they didn't go in the anthology direction like carpenter wanted. i like some of the sequels but i really don't need to watch them ever again. i'd much rather rewatch almost every friday or nightmare sequel. |
CaliggyJack
04.17.25 | They screwed the pooch on it by releasing two movies with Michael in it.
Had Season of the witch been the second movie, the anthology format would have gone over better with audiences, but they had been given 2 movies with Michael and now associated the series with him. |
unclereich
04.17.25 | 2018 is really brilliant and the only sequel that absolutely nails everything that made the og great. my only gripe is they should have introduced Corey in that film so his story didn't seem so shoehorned in ends. ends could have been way better, kills was clearly botched due to covid. continuity with Michael's mask also makes all the difference. every movie would have benefited from the filmmakers simply sticking with the original Kirk mask especially 4-h20. yet another thing the recent trilogy nailed, absolutely flawless mask. Nothing could have saved resurrection tho easily in the top worst films ever made along with Zombie's h2 |
CaliggyJack
04.17.25 | Agreed on Corey. He should have been in there from the beginning. Everything would've flowed better.
Also, the problem with the mask in 4 was that the guy who played Michael in Halloween 2 took the mask with him cause carpenter said Michael was over, so when 4 came around, they didn't have the mask with them. |
Futures
04.17.25 | 2018 is a fun time, just hate a lot of the humor. the dad especially is unbearable. great kills though, it's a fun time at least. i really don't get what they were thinking with corey and i like ends. it just is so bizarre. corey's story is way more interesting then another laurie/michael fight. even felt tacked on at the end lol.
the mask is so true as well. the h20 mask and myers portrayal almost ruins the entire movie and i like a lot about it. i have no clue what they were thinking with the eyes. |
Futures
04.17.25 | yeah it doesn't make sense in continuity really but i love that the mask in 2 is the same exact one as the og. it has such a natural cool weathered look. |
unclereich
04.17.25 | @caliggy not to be an "actually" guy, but i am cringe tier obsessed with Michael Myers and own a small fortune worth of film accurate masks/knives/coveralls. yes the mask was misplaced(there were 3 originally and one resurfaced a few years ago and was sold at a private auction). however the director knew that the mask was simply a spray painted 78 Kirk death mask and feared legal recourse over using Shatner's likeness again(even though Shatner himself was wasn't privy to it until 2 decades or so later). so they went with a different mold. that mold was then botched from the factory and the fx department scrambled to make something similar to the 1978 film and we ended up getting the atrocity we see in 4.
thereafter each new director thought it would be smart to make a new mold that fit their artistic direction. it wasn't until 2018 when Christopher nelson had the wild idea to make a near identical copy to the original 78 Kirk mask- but with just enough tweaks to leave reasonable doubt- and thus the 2018 aged Myers mask was born. imo it is the best mask since the og. |
CaliggyJack
04.17.25 | "the mask is so true as well. the h20 mask and myers portrayal almost ruins the entire movie and i like a lot about it. i have no clue what they were thinking with the eyes"
I can answer that.
You see, originally H20 was supposed to tie in to Halloween 6. The idea of the eyes was that, after the events of H6, Michael was now free from the Thorn Curse, with the blackness of the eyes meant to represent his immortality. With it gone, Michael has become a mortal man again, so his mask becomes just another generic Halloween mask. They even wrote in a scene (Don't know if filmed or not) where Laurie learns of Jamie's death on the news and throws up in shock.
However, during production they reversed course, eliminating all references to 4, 5, and 6, and only acknowledging the first 2 as canon. By then though the changes were there, leading to Michaels weird eyes.
@Unclereich thanks for letting me know. I didn't know that part. |
Futures
04.17.25 | oh really? i know a lot and have shockingly never heard that before. it makes a lot of sense. still looks fucking horrendous though haha. there is a way to do it but not that way!
and i definitely agree the 2018/kills/ends mask is top tier. a simple ask really but the sequels made it seem like a hard ask lol. i actually love the burned kills mask the most even if i kind of hate that movie haha. evil dies tonight evil dies tonight evil dies tonight evil dies tonight. |
unclereich
04.17.25 | h20 has 4 masks including a cgi mask lol. I actually dont mind the Stan Winston sculpt at all and bid on the original movie mask:https://propstoreauction.com/lot-details/index/catalog/318/lot/95025
Durand the stuntman/actor for Michael in that film just had too big of a head for the mask imo and yet again was too robotic to play Michael. nick castle is the best Myers IMO due in large part because he was classically trained ballet dancer. |
Futures
04.17.25 | oh yeah the cgi mask goes without saying lol. the "alien" mask too is fucking awful. shockingly bad. they are all horrendous which is impressive. durand i don't think is the issue but he does do those goofy big eyes lol. guess that is from direction though. |

04.17.25 | I think it was the red letter media guys that pointed this out but Corey should’ve been the boyfriend from the start, that’s something that I totally agree with. Cut the boyfriend from 2018 and Kills and put Corey in there and you have a really fucking solid trilogy. As it stands it just feels disjointed. But still very easily the best “canon”. 1978, H2, and H20 could’ve been solid but then you have resurrection… |
Futures
04.17.25 | yeah my preferred canon ending is 78, 2, h20 ignore resurrection lol |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.17.25 | Preferred canon is just Halloween tbh lmao
Idk I’m a hardcore defender of Ends, I think it’s not just a great sequel but a great movie in general and 2018 was really good too, just fucking Kills man. I remember reading that someone cut together 2018 and the good parts of Kills to make like a 2.5 hour sequel that leads into Ends really well but I never looked into it.
Kills does have some redeeming qualities but man, it’s really one of the most inconsistent films I’ve ever seen. |

BAT
04.17.25 | generally this and elm street are kinda like chronological order of release is my ranking, least up till dimension bought the series. I miiight like halloween 3 a tad more than 2 but it barely counts as part of the franchise, its a silly 80s horror movie with a good amount of gore, dope soundtrack, and a bizarre cast of chars. Halloween 4 is all around solid but it's a bit too tongue in cheek for me, to compare it to another series i'd say its the terminator 3 or jason lives of the franchise: well done and a fun watch but just kinda non-serious.
halloween 5 is very dull though, never saw the producers cut of 6 buuut 6 is just flat out confusing. h2o is actually pretty solid but ultimately doesn't do much to set itself apart from the rest, resurrection is so bad it's good...but it's objectively last place from a craft/technical standpoint.
roooob zooombiess halloweeen iissss, uneven but aight. i actually didnt mind the prequel first half with whitetrash child myers, but as soon as it got to taking the steps from the original movie it just feels like an contract obligation. rz:h2 i haaated back when ti came out buuuut i have a feeling i'd get some laughs out of it, seems more like rob zombie trolling the weinsteins than an actual movie.
annnnd the green/mcbride trilogy: first ones fun but overrated, most of the characters besides lourie are annoying. halloween kills i hated when it first came out, thaaan i gave it a rewatch the next year when ends came out and thought it was hysterical. they got acclaim than turned in the jason x of the series. halloween ends just felt like a remake of christine, i like christine though but yeah interesting but inessential. as a retrospective trilogy though all three movies work better as comedies than horror movies. |
BAT
04.17.25 | and i didnt mind first two seasons of screams, except for them making ghostface like the most proficient hacker since the laughing man. season 3 however is by far the worst thing in the entire franchise, what a fucking trainwreck |

BAT
04.17.25 | phantasm is a love it or hate it franchise but definitely worth checking out, the sequels just get a lot more bonkers [especially 3].
and i need to check out basically every chainsaw movie since the 2003 remake, i've just not bothere with the 3-4 different times they've tried to reboot that series lol. and hellraiser 1 is the highlight of the series for sure, 2 is like the only other essential from a pop-culture standpoint. if you want a potential worst movie ever : hellraiser revelations. most of the hellraiser movies are more interesting than good, all of them have something different to set them apart so it's rarely repetitive. i've not seen that hulu one from a few years ago |

like the blair witch reboot in 2016 was perfectly fine but it got ripped to shreds
i think the scream reboots kinda cheated cuz they used actors who have huge pop culture followings (barerra and ortega) so even though they are PURE FUCKING SHIT FILMS they became culturally significant to zoomer cunts |

CaliggyJack
04.23.25 | It's probably the Theatrical Cut lol |
Rowhaus
04.23.25 | Yeah theatrical cut of 6 is a complete dumpster fire. They gutted all the excitement from the final act and stopped Michael with magic stones. Wtf were they thinking? Just horrible writing all around lol |
Christbait
04.23.25 | I loved H20 as a kid and have always considered Myers to be the best slasher villain ever created, weird lore aside. Many of the sequels don't do him the justice he deserves, but as a pure force of evil? He's a fantastic horror creation. I haven't seen that movie In a Violent Nature but I remember watching the trailers and thinking this would be an interesting direction to take Michael Myers. Combined with the long take from the 2018 Halloween reboot, just give us a more naturalistic depiction of Michael just traveling back to Haddonfield and taking folks out. Give it the Man Bites Dog treatment. |
CaliggyJack
04.23.25 | @rowhaus they stop him with magic stones in the Producer's Cut too, but it's given more background and the ending is done far better. |
Rowhaus
04.23.25 | Wasn't there one where Paul Rudd beat him to death with a pipe but his blood was green for some reason? I might be getting my sequels mixed up lol |
Hawks
04.23.25 | Isn't that the 6th one? |
Rowhaus
04.23.25 | It was almost certainly the 6th but I can't remember if it was the theatrical cut or the producer cut. I prefer the one where Michael slaughtered a bunch of medical staff in an operating room and killed a guy on prison bars. |
TheSonomaDude
04.25.25 | The whole Thorn cult thing was dumb as fuck imo. I get trying something different with the lore but Michael Myers was scary enough as an emotionless psychopath incapable of feeling empathy. Making him be the hypnotized pawn of some cult sucks out alot of horror for me. |

TheSonomaDude
04.25.25 | I guess at least the RZ movies are highly stylized and ambitious, i’ll give them that. Zombie was definitely an auteur. But like yeah okay Myers was a fat kid who got bullied by literally every single organism in his life, even his school principal, and grew up to be a 6’10 body builder by pure coincidence. Guess being angry really makes your muscles grow? Same issues with the movie See No Evil, where the killer is played by 6’8 400lb Kane but we see him as a normal, scrawny kid. Guess being abused is the secret to growth spurts, according to 2000’s horror films |

ive said this before but rob zombies trailer trash americana style is just fuckin bleh |
TheSonomaDude
04.25.25 | I’ve always said that Rob Zombie and Quentin Tarantino aren’t too far off, in the sense that they are both clearly heavily inspired by 70s Grindhouse and arthouse films. The difference is at Tarantino takes the best elements of both styles, whereas zombie takes the worst. This might be OK if zombies films leaned into the campiness, but instead he tries so fucking hard to make the most disturbing, edgelord shit ever and it barely works |
Hyperion1001
