Did a marathon of these movies recently.
TCM 2022 still holds up idc what critics say |
Hawks
04.13.25 | I'd put 5 and 6 after 1 and 2. The rest are whatever lol. |
budgie
04.13.25 | i love the 2022 one |
CaliggyJack
04.13.25 | I just... can't get into TCM III.
Everything about it feels like a Z-movie.
@budgie fuck yeah budge |
Futures
04.13.25 | pretty close to my own. a really stupid franchise that i can't help but like. lots of bizarre choices that are at least entertaining.
tcm
tcm 2
remake
remake sequel
22
nex gen
tcm 3
3d
leatherface
next gen and 3d are hysterically bad movies. 3d especially is just ridiculous. the ending is fucking hilarious. how in the fuck did they think that would be a good idea? i'd rewatch that over all of them besides the first two lol |

Bro how the fuck did the writers for 3D not realize the ages didn't match up? She's supposed to be 39 years old but she's a college kid in the movie lmao

Futures
04.13.25 | there is literally no way to explain it lol. they literally just didn't give a single fuck. |
CaliggyJack
04.13.25 | The fact that the studio, most likely, paid Tobe Hooper to rizz up the film leading to its release is hilarious. |
Futures
04.13.25 | it is entertaining at least gotta give it that lol |
CaliggyJack
04.13.25 | Yeah, I'll give Leatherface credit that, when compared to other TCM films, it is FAR more professionally made, but idk I was just bored throughout the film.
Also the twist was Shyamalan levels of lol |
Futures
04.13.25 | oh yeah that twist is hilarious, couldn’t be more telegraphed |
CaliggyJack
04.13.25 | Man, watching Sally choke under the pressure and die heroically in TCM 2022 was such a perfect subversion of the legacy sequel trope that was hitting most of them.
It was such a ballsy move to do that, kudos to the writers |
brendanissnaz
04.13.25 | Next Gen is hilarious and one of a kind and I’d argue it beats out 2 in terms of entertainment value. The original, 2, and Next Gen are all classics in their own way IMO, and there’s no entry in the series that I regret watching. |

04.13.25 | All complete shit after 2. The zoomer reboot one recently was unbearable |
Hyperion1001
04.13.25 | first one is a classic
2 is trash but good canon trash
none of the others are worth watching. |
budgie
04.13.25 | "Any series I forgot to add? Preferably ones with more than 3 movies.
5 evil dead movies and a 2 season show thats pretty dang fun
imo evil dead is the best franchise ever since the shitshow that was scream 6
there are also 4 fright night films and 4 night of the demons films and 6 sleepaway camp films |
CaliggyJack
04.13.25 | Oh shit thanks budge I'll add em.
Totally forgot about Evil Dead! |
Futures
04.13.25 | 5 hannibal lecter movies. 6 exorcist movies (3 is incredible). 6 omen movies, the one last year was solid. and if you're a masochist there are 7 wrong turn movies that i have all sadly seen. |
CaliggyJack
04.14.25 | OMEN! HOW COULD I FORGET!?
added |
Futures
04.14.25 | not the worst franchise, 2 is a fun slasher kinda movie. little final destination vibe (also there's another franchise for you lol). 3 has sam neill hamming it up. |
CaliggyJack
04.14.25 | Oh yeah I love em. These marathons are all rewatches, there isn't really a long running horror franchise I haven't seen (I think). The OG Omen Trilogy is GOATed imho |
Futures
04.14.25 | ah didn't know they were rewatches. i've done a ton of them. just easy and quick watches to blow through. i've always been a completionist lol. bad movies are entertaining to me in a way bad music isn't. |
CaliggyJack
04.14.25 | Hear hear! |
tyman128
04.14.25 | Guess I should finally watch these movies |
CaliggyJack
04.14.25 | I recommend you do! |
Azazzel
04.15.25 | bet you haven't watched all the Amityville movies (`∀´)Ψ |
CaliggyJack
04.15.25 | Oh God... I've seen more than enough of them.
Amityville 1, 2, 1 Remake, and Awakening are the only films in that franchise worth giving a damn about. |
Azazzel
04.15.25 | hold on Amityville: It's About Time 1992 with the evil clock is up there! filmic aesthetics of that period are comfy and it does some playful surrealism stuff with the time gimmick. more into mood and imagery like an italian film than Amity and some italian quality gore! |
bellovddd
04.15.25 | Amityville: It's About Time and the dollhouse one slap for cheesy 90's horror. |
JMNewcomer25
04.15.25 | Glad to see not everyone dislikes Beginning. Underrated and the fact that it's one of the lowest rated films in the franchise is mind blowing.
1. 1974
2. Beginning
3. Remake
4. TCM II
5. 2022
6. Leatherface 2017
7. 3D
8. TCM III
9. Next Gen |
Futures
04.15.25 | beginning is great because r lee ermey was electric. what a terrifying character. hard rip. |

04.15.25 | OG tcm is one of the most overrated horror movies ever made.
|
Futures
04.15.25 | i get that because it's def not for everyone but idk it's something i feel in my bones. so dirty and disgusting, feels like it actually happened. one of the few horror movies that actually gets under my skin and unnerves me. |
budgie
04.15.25 | og tcm is absolutely not overrated |
CaliggyJack
04.15.25 | @JMNewcomer Jonathan Liebesman understood the assignment better than Marcus Nispel did. He knew to add a bit of humor to the movie to spice it up. TCM works best as a Black Comedy Horror Slasher, rather than the super serious slasher of the Remake. Beginning and 2022 are both films that understand TCM closest behind Tobe Hooper himself. |
Hyperion1001
04.15.25 | i firmly believe that tobe hooper is a hack director who accidentally created a masterpiece with the first TCM and made nearly 100% trash for the rest of his career. |
bellovddd
04.15.25 | Franklin ruins any bit of tension i have in the OG TCM and he dies wayyyyy too late. The dinner scene is great though. |
Futures
04.15.25 | with how he insisted that he made the first as a dark comedy i kind of agree lol. but i also really like 2 as an insane fuck you. |
CaliggyJack
04.15.25 | @Hyperion Disagreeeeee
The Funhouse, Poltergeist, The Mangler, Toolbox Murders Remake, and Djinn are all great films. |
Futures
04.15.25 | i've always heard spielberg gets all the credit for poltergeist |
CaliggyJack
04.15.25 | That theory has been floated around for years with absolutely no proof behind it. |
Futures
04.15.25 | well he wrote and produced it. and that film has all his character archetypes and family dynamics. |
bellovddd
04.15.25 | apparently he was a very hands on producer and it sure feels that way for Poltergeist |
CaliggyJack
04.15.25 | "Regrettably, some of the press has misunderstood the rather unique, creative relationship which you and I shared throughout the making of Poltergeist.
I enjoyed your openness in allowing me, as a writer and a producer, a wide berth for creative involvement, just as I know you were happy with the freedom you had to direct Poltergeist so wonderfully.
Through the screenplay you accepted a vision of this very intense movie from the start, and as the director, you delivered the goods. You performed responsibly and professionally throughout, and I wish you great success on your next project."
~Steven Spielberg
"So much of Poltergeist looks and feels like a Spielberg movie but my recollection is that Tobe was mostly directing."
~Martin Casella
"The guy who sets up the shots, blocks the actors and works with the crew to create a vision is the director. In those terms, Tobe was the director. He's the one who directed me, anyway."
~Oliver Robbins
"Tobe was always calling action and cut. Tobe had been deeply involved in all of the pre-production and everything. But Steven is a guy who will come in and call the shots. And so, you're on your first studio film, hired by Steven Spielberg, who is enthusiastically involved in this movie. Are you gonna say, 'Stop that... let me do this'? Which [Tobe] did.
[...] Tobe was a terrific filmmaker. I don't think it's that Steven was controlling. I think it was Steven was enthusiastic. And nobody was there to protect Tobe. But all of the pre-production was done by Tobe. Tobe was there throughout. Tobe's vision is very much realized there. And Tobe got credit because he deserved credit. Including... Steven Spielberg said that.
[...] Yes, Steven Spielberg was very much involved. It's a Tobe Hooper film."

04.20.25 | Original TCM is one of my favourite movies of all time. |
budgie
04.20.25 | i found poltergeist extremely underwhelming |
Brabiz
04.20.25 | 3D is one of my favorite bad movies. The most recent one was dumb fun too |
anode
04.21.25 | man i just watched tcm 1974 and blew my mind. one of the best movies ive seen in a good while and im not even into horrors. the acting is just unbelievable especially from the lead. ive never seen terror portrayed so viscerally. and i love the very subtle yet undeniable statements that it makes about politics and cruelty. not to mention the incredible filming, set and sound design. just a beautiful movie through and through |
