10.22.22 | Hey man, I don’t have a lot of money to hand out right now as I just took out a mortgage and have my down payment, closing fees, moving fees and a lot of other such expenses coming up in a couple weeks here but I just donated a little bit. Always down to help a sputter in need, sorry to hear about this situation, wishing your mom and the rest of your family the best. Wish I could help more. |

10.22.22 | I would love to be able help, things are tight right now, but I wanted to at least offer well-wishes. It may not be much, but I hope things get better for y’all and work out well! Take care, and you can always hit me up to talk if you ever want to. If I happen to win the Powerball tonight, I’ll float a pallet your way |
zakalwe
10.22.22 | How much is the ambulance bill? |
CaliggyJack
10.22.22 | She only got the first bill which was 1k
She is going to try to ask her insurance to see if they can cover, but even if they do, it won't cover the future specialist visits.
Also please only donate if you can afford to. We're all suffering right now and the last thing we want is to benefit off of those who can't afford it. |
zakalwe
10.22.22 | 1000 👀 Jesus.
I think I’m going to chip in and chuck a few quid your way.
This better be fucking genuine otherwise you and your mum are both going to need a fucking ambulance |
DadKungFu
10.22.22 | Caliggy's always been a good dude, no reason to think he's not being genuine here. Medical system in this country is fucked. Can chip in a few. |
Kompys2000
10.22.22 | Wishing you and your family strength and good fortune in navigating our nightmarish medical system |

10.22.22 | My mom is completely floored by all the support you guys have shown, seriously, all of you are absolute chads and I love you all.

Minortimbo12
10.22.22 | Ill pray for your mom and your family. Wish I could donate, but paypal card is corrupt... anyway, sorry. Similar thing recently happened to my grandma; she shattered a vertabrae and had a minor heart attack - the latter was fixed but she was shuffled around hospitals for the vertabrae. It also didn't help when she tested positive for covid. Finally they got it done, sent her to an elderly home, and said she'd never walk again. A month later she was sent home and walking with a cane like she had been for 20 years. Also has an intestine problem for 20 years which is worth noting. |
Minortimbo12
10.22.22 | In August, she turned 100. That was also the time when she was in the hospital, just done with her vertabrae. We had to stand outside the window and put our noses right up against it to see her through the tinted glass. It was really stupid. |

10.22.22 | I get paid on Monday, I’ll throw some your way Calligy. |
CaliggyJack
10.22.22 | @minor I'm so sorry to hear that man. Yeah a lot of these caregivers just try to shuffle u around to other departments so they don't have to deal with you, All while they take their visitation pay.
@wildcard ty tytytytytytyty
My mom is going to try her best to send thank yous to everybody who donates, so don't forget to check yer gofundme acct for a response :) |
Observer
10.22.22 | I work at a hospital in surgical services and have been there for the past 5 years. I wont defend or counter anyones' experiences mentioned here, but its an insane world in that system, any hospital. Its super, super political in upper management, so stories like yours and the like are familiar to me. Conversely, I also hear heaven and angel stories from our employies and visitors a lot too. As your mom is a nurse, id hope shed have disability coverage in her insurance, or should. Does she have a reasonable yearly deductible? |
notagenius
10.23.22 | I am experiencing post covid syndrome I can very much relate to her first half description. It is a small donation I made and I hope your mother recovers quickly. |
CaliggyJack
10.23.22 | @observer she has military insurance but it's complicated also she doesn't have any of that I don't think. She hasn't worked at hospital, she mostly worked at certain adult care facilities. |

Get Low
10.23.22 | "I am unable to work due to needing to take care of our 2 old dogs and housekeeping"
I understand that you're in a desperate situation, but why are you prioritizing taking care of two old dogs over working, and helping your family's finances? Clearly you need to get rid of the dogs, unless they are really that important to you (perhaps they are; I know how some people are about their pets). |
CaliggyJack
10.23.22 | I mean, these dogs are apart of our family, they matter to us. We don't want to get rid of them and all of this happened so fast. Also even if I wanted to get rid of our dogs (which I do not), my mom would rather just croak before ever giving them away, especially when nobody but us would know how to properly care for them.
Perhaps that makes us stupid, idk. |
DoofDoof
10.23.22 | Not stupid, just donated a little bit, hope you reach the target. |
MoM
10.23.22 | Nah, it doesn’t make you guys stupid. Shit happens and the dogs are part of your family, like you said. Adding heartbreak into an already difficult situation is a tough thing to choose |
CaliggyJack
10.23.22 | Also huge thank you to the recent donators and the mods who pinned my list.
I seriously love this community, my mom slept more soundly last night than she has in weeks. She's got a meeting with her pcp hopefully sometime this coming week. |
CaliggyJack
10.23.22 | Also I should note the dog in the picture is Yogi.
He was our third dog, but he sadly passed away earlier this year. I still miss him... |

10.23.22 | Congrats potsy on the house, that's huge |

CaliggyJack
10.23.22 | Yeah potsy I forgot to say congrats! |
IsisScript80
10.23.22 | Calligy, your priorities aren't stupid in the slightest, and I don't remotely agree or see the point of Get Low's comment at all.
Pleased that the mods pinned this. Donated a bit. Wish you and your family all the best. :) |
IsisScript80
10.23.22 | ...also add big congrats to Pots. |
CaliggyJack
10.23.22 | It's definitely important to be skeptical about stuff like this too. After all you're giving us money for nothing in return. That's why I'll be here to answer any questions and concerns any of y'all may have, so that you all can feel secure about where your money is going to. |
DoofDoof
10.23.22 | Just keep us updated on how things go Caliggy, any good news regarding this would be great to hear. If it's lupus I've known two people with it and it's not easy but with the right care it should be a lot better hopefully |

10.23.22 | These are trying times, especially here in Nordic Europe - the eve of war feels very real and close. Now is the time for unity, not distrust and cynicism, no matter which country you call home. Happy to help with what I can.

10.23.22 | Thank yooooooouuuu!
Also I might make a separate list dedicate to my doggie pics |

10.23.22 | Stay safe Phoenix. That term feels disingenuous these days, but I truly hope you do. |
AnusNballs
10.24.22 | I mean no disrespect or negative feelings whatsoever, but if you’re a grown man relying on your sister to support you, then that is majorly whack.. not 1 job but 2. So you can take care of dogs?
I genuinely wish I could donate, for real. I’ve been unemployed for 3 months, crashed and burned, got fired, barely keeping myself from suicide without health insurance, any form of medication, any form of income, and rely on an uncle to purchase cigs, gas, and the occasional McDonald’s as I’ve lived in a grandparents spare room for going on 2 years now. Even I am aware enough to say that I need a job. And as shitty a vibe as this might give off, you should REALLY consider getting one.
Best of luck to you. |

I feel for your situation, having failing parents sucks I/m seeing that as well
is there another reason you can't work that you dont want to get into? |
CaliggyJack
10.24.22 | So mom wants to try taking a shift this Saturday from 3 to 11... I'm uneasy about it, but she says she's feeling better so idk. It turns out she's not seeing her pcp till next Monday so that's just fantastic...
@Anus my mom cant walk and feed the dogs twice a day. Especially when we live on the third floor of our apartment building and the dogs have to be taken to pee every 3 hours. At 3 flights of stairs that is not possible for her even at high energy. Also I did start applying to jobs, but had to rescind them when we realized nobody would be able to take care of them. |
CaliggyJack
10.24.22 | Almost immediately after this discussion she ends up feeling sick...
If that isn't the universe sending a sign then astrology is bullshit. |

10.25.22 | We're almost to 900...
For 2 weeks my family and I were scared of what was coming and what we were going to do. And as a last ditch effort I called to this community for help. And you all came together and pulled us out of the depths. You don't know me on a personal level, yet when trouble called all of you lent your hand in aid.
I'm sitting here at 2am in the dark, humbled beyond belief and realizing how lucky I am to have found this community back in 2016. You are all saints, this community is a light in the darkness and anybody who says otherwise can fuck right off.
Make no mistake, when my mom gets stable again ("when", not "if"), it'll be because of all of you.
You saved my family. I'm not exaggerating.
Thank you. Thank you so much. |
zakalwe
10.25.22 | Tell her thanks for the thanks and chin up love.
Hell of a ploy to raise funds for a bag of gear and a graphics card or whatever it is you kids do now. |

10.25.22 | If you have to be at home, can try getting some online jobs on upwork if you want. they are flexible. |
notagenius
10.25.22 | It's actually better to wait until she is fully recovered before working again. Maybe instead she'll lose fewer days you know, otherwise the battle just stretches out. If she's having post-covid-symptom, I'd say this shit is nuts and it's going to flare up every other day. There were many days when I felt I was rejuvenated and then as soon as I worked out I would collapse again. |

10.26.22 | So update.
The doctor took a look at my mom, my mom explained how not only is she dealing with the cardiac stuff, she's been feeling like she's been "punched in the gut repeatedly" recently. My mom thinks she has an ulcer which is just the icing on the cake of everything else. She was prescribed medication, which thanks to all of you she will be able to afford since her insurance basically told her to fuck off.
Unfortunately, if she does have an ulcer, they can't confirm until she gets both a colonoscopy and endoscopy done, but she can't do either of these things until she sees a cardiologist about the fluid around her heart, which is taking forever because these cardio fuckwads are lazy as hell and don't give a shit.
In other news, my mom has updated her gofundme title due to her taking that small job on saturday.
We have enough in savings to pass off our rent for this month. After that... well will cross that bridge when we get there. |
wham49
10.31.22 | have you considered looking into getting paid for taking care of yor mom, I know my neighbors son gets paid like 20 hours a week as a care giver for his dad. Also, as a teacher I have parents who get paid to be caregivers for their very needy children. just a thought |
Deathconscious
10.31.22 | "Clearly you need to get rid of the dogs, unless they are really that important to you (perhaps they are; I know how some people are about their pets)."
Hate this fuckin attitude. If you dont plan on treating an animal like family, dont get a fucking pet. |
Get Low
10.31.22 | If you're not financially stable enough to where there's a chance that you won't be able to take care of the pet for its entire lifespan, don't get a pet. |
IsisScript80
10.31.22 | ^ Situations don't always remain the same. You can go from being "financially stable" to not, very quickly. In the 10-15 years of an average pet's lifespan a whole fucking lot can change. |

11.01.22 | Sorry to hear that storm! I've started donating plasma now that my mom is somewhat well enough to drive. So that allows me to make money for us while also taking care of the dogs.
@Storm absolutely start a gofundme, I'll donate a bit of my plasma money if I can :) |

11.01.22 | Easier said than done. Some cities are very expensive, and moving costs money. And then there's also the lease you have to wait on. |
