Sput's OCT 2018 Song of the Day

Yep! It's that time of the month again and I can't wait to host this month's extremely passive "competition"! You all know how it goes, so I'll list do a super concise version of the rules: rec, link, genre-tag, describe, listen, and rate. The only new thing I'll set up for this month is that you have to wait to submit a second rec until we are on the second-to-last posted song in the month. Any second recs before that will have to be reposted at the appropriate time. Also, please be at least somewhat caught up before submitting a second rec. Anyways, have fun and here is the new, completely voluntary theme: Pick a song that makes you overwhelmed with emotions, be it sadness, happiness/euphoria, love/lust, spooks, just any emotion really, but to an overwhelming extent. (totally not stolen from Papa Uni) Rating Spreadsheet (Thanks, Ars!): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo9Aj7t1IZwG41xFgX9kzIugIsVckENq5RnQace1WDw/edit#gid=603188734

2nd (ArsMoriendi): "John the Fisherman" [alternative metal/funk]

All poor John wanted to do was be a fisherman. His family doesn't support him, he's lonely, does poorly in school, but he loves fishing and can see a future in that. He defies the odds and becomes a fisherman, living his dream. AND THEN FUCKING DIES WHILE OUT AT SEA in a big storm.

It's mixed because clearly he doesn't want to die, but at the same time, he feels fulfilled that he chased his dreams instead of giving into societal pressure and this makes me super emotional for that reason.

3rd (Papa Universe): "Pillars" [ethereal Southern hippity hop]

Emotion that be: unexpected utter satisfaction. A song of an album that sprung out of nowhere and high into my favourites of the year. Heed yee hop of the hip, yon wrapping rapper clappers.

Everyone seemed to like Buck-Tick last two times, so this should convince y'all to binge their discography. The is one of their most emotional song, screaming about love with distortion everywhere. Straightforward and to the point.

Beetlejuice

9th (ZombieToyDuck): "The Incantation"

Whether or not you know of Beetlejuice, this is a fantastic piece of music written by a composer in his prime. A whimsically haunting soundscape filled with wonder and surprise around ever twist and turn. Incantation is a delightfully zany song, much like the film it accompanies.

10th (BlazinBlitzer): "I Talk to the Wind" [progressive rock]

Sound's like a cheater's pick, I know, but I have 3 reasons why I picked this track:
1. ItCofCK was actually released on my birthday (October 10), hence why I pushed my rec down here.
2. It's a classic track from a classic album.
3. This song makes me feel whimsical and fantastical. It puts me somewhere that almost no other song can bridge my imagination to.

11th (LeftyMcRighty): "Ugly and Vengeful"

I have started to post my rec 3 different times over the last 3 days because i wanted the perfect song that would conjure strong emotions. The video links I could find didn't do the respective songs justice so i will post my 4th choice. It is kinda newer but has been in rotation for @ 4 months now and, every time it comes up in a mix, I'm like "Goddamn, that's an amazing track!"; so I think that qualifies.

It is a long one at @ 16 minutes but WELL worth the time spent. If you are too weak to hang in there for the full experience, you can skip to @9:30.

Despite the genre label, very few records instill in me such an overwhelming feeling of euphoria as The Power of Failing does, and I've never quite been able to pinpoint why. It's an effect that, for me at least, sets in the moment this fantastic opener kicks into high gear.
