Song of the May (A Netflix Original)

Netflix have given you the green light and have agreed to fund the show you’ve always wanted to make. They loved your pitch so much that they’ll even fork out for the rights to whatever theme song you desire! Let us know what you’re opting for, and to make things interesting give us a synopsis of your show too. It can’t already be a theme song, but if necessary you can timestamp your recommendation (Netflix patrons do love the skip intro button). I'd edit the theme song to include the first 20 seconds, then it would jump from like 1:16 to 1:54, then incorporate the last 10 seconds or so. In the beginning I imagine a spaceship slowly "floating" (im no scientist eh) in space. When the bassline at 1:23 kicks in, the camera would go inside the ship and you'd see cool shit like an ugly alien, a sexy alien, a nerdy alien and the sidekick alien go about their respective business or stuff like that. Then, from the 1:43 riff onwards you'd see the spaceship cruising hyperspace. The last 10 seconds of the theme would be really cliche with many planets and black holes coming together as one to form the show name. The show would be a Foundation scifi one with different protagonists looking for the Second Foundation or stg like that idk

If I got unlimited money to make any tv show, it would most likely be a tv adaptation of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. This song fits the bleakness and epicness perfectly in my opinion.

The five boroughs of NYC are changed one day by a mysterious force. For some reason, everyone throughout New York City cannot leave the outer bounds (including some surrounding bodies of water) of the city or even see beyond them. They're also cut off from all contact from the outside world, even digitally (yet internet and phone still somehow work within the limits with each other.) This leads to harsh political changes within the city. Parts of the city revert back to farming communities, all sorts of chaos and overthrows break out, and best of all: our protagonists make it their duty to figure this mystery out. The discovery of why this has happened is worse than they could have ever imagined. (The theme itself is just shots of NYC in this dystopian world)

Mine would be an adaption of the homerus works: Illiad and Odyssey. From what i've seen most adaptions are either older or not very good so i would love to see a a new interpretation. They haven't been done together either (i think) within a singular vision so i think that would be cool. First season will be the trojan war, the second will be odysseus journey home and the third season will do the brave move to imagine the lost sequel, the Telegony

to me this song follows the theme of longing for home that is especially prevelent in Odyssey but i think it will work for Illiad as well. Probably the 1:47-2.48 part for the theme

...specifically the section around 3:30 onward, and combine that with the choral elements of "O Fortuna" from Orff's "Carmina Burana".

Ok, I’ll play. Mine would be called “Tusitala” and the synopsis would thus be:

Set in an alternate history during the second War of the Crown era (light steampunk elements and magic usage; think dying days of flintlock weapons), we follow a ragtag group of outcasts and fugitives as they travel through enemy lands, on a mission to ferry a pair of royal twins to the capital of the land and to their rightful claim to the throne, but the twins’ cousin, the current ruler, conspires to assassinate them en route and sends spies and assassins to find and kill them all.

OK I'm pitching a punk rock 5 minute fast meal cooking program. Where the premise is not giving a fuck about any rules or using industry lingo. Just get in there slap some ingredients together, don't be pretentious about it, and have some early 80s hardcore playing in the back ground.
The show will be called
Anarchists Cook, with No Book
And at the end of each episode, just before signing off, when the host, probably a hot punk rock chick in bowling pants, is about to take a bite, she says "Bon Appétit Cunt Munchers". Then the program ends with this theme song again.

00:50 - 2:00

The aging head of a British crime syndicate begins to suffer from the effects of dementia - namely memory loss. Starts to go soft, seems to forget parts of his past that made him into the right 'orrible cunt he is. Has to have his legendary tales of joint manipulation, broken bones, hospitalisation, police evasion etc described to him like folklore by his family - but he's beside himself, refuses to believe he'd even be capable. His sons try to oust him as it's starting to impede on the business, but he won't budge (he's retained his stubbornness and forked tongue). Decides to use the weight of the family name to right wrongs and improve the community. But how long will he hold onto his faculties? Is it possible for those he has wronged to forgive him? And are his criminal mentalities so deep-seeded as to not be truly eradicated?

Had this idea for a show where someone is living in this unreal world, some sort of paradise, though nearly everyone he meets despite being attractive/young talks gibberish or behaves strangely. He sometimes has friendships or relationships with them, kisses them, do other crazy shit together. Then slowly he starts getting flashes of images of his actual reality - he’s in a series of padded cells that are a sort of VR headset dementia nursing home of the future. Then eventually he gets a flash of his reflection and he’s actually young. Over time he’s given clues about who he is and the conspiracy of why he’s been sent to this place. Then it’s a twisted prison break type scenario with help from someone in the facility who wants to help him (the person responsible for the glimpses of reality) etc. It just proved a bit unwieldy to actually write.

My series would be cheesy, but marketable. (Also expensive, so Doof will have to lend me the money to buy up all of the film rights.

It's Friday the 13th: Forest Green. The main protagonist would be Tommy Jarvis from the 4th and 6th Friday the 13th films returning home to Crystal Lake (now renamed Forest Green) after his release from decades in a mental asylum. It would involve him moving in with his sister Trish, her husband and their two teen children. Eventually, he would begin to suspect that you-know-who was alive, and would begin to work together with other Friday the 13th surviving characters (such as Ginny Fields from the second film) to try to track down and kill supernatural serial killer Jason Voorhees.

Since my rec for last month held up pretty well I'm going to rec another song that I discovered through that same 5/5 soundtrack that coincidently would make a great theme song for a show imo. It would be an adaptation of the psychedelic western Pretty Deadly by Kelly Sue DeConnick:

"... an all-new ongoing series that marries the magical realism of Sandman with the western brutality of Preacher. Death's daughter rides the wind on a horse made of smoke and her face bears the skull marks of her father. Her tale of retribution is as beautifully lush as it is unflinchingly savage."

"Pretty Deadly, one of the most fascinating comics published today, is a magical realist genre-bender that began as a Sergio Leone-style Western, but has transformed into a grisly World War I story with its second arc."

Hey I have a sci-fi show! Not going to get super into it for copyright reasons because I'm actually planning on making it one day, but I will say that it plays into the extraterrestrial origins of the human race as a metaphor for our (in?)ability to escape our genetic roots in militarism and nationalism

Anyway, this song is fucking ridiculous but the unintelligible lyrics and bizarre guitar/percussion sound always made me think of a science-fiction hybrid. It can be annoying as fuck but basically the choruses and 3:30-onwards are god-tier rock music imo

Dirt. In full HD. Some plant roots. Small foliage that you barely even recognise because they're enormous, totally blown out of proportion. The sunlight is soft and patchy. Everything looks alive. Something shiny with many legs walks across the screen. The show is a new documentary series on small animal life, insects, arachnids, and other tiny invertebrates. They're mega cute.

there are lots of things a lot of people think rita lennox doesn't know. her little sister is dating her ex behind her back. her boss has been chatting to her on anonymous chatrooms for a good three months now. her dad's tabs go far beyond the bar at the end of the street, but he's not planning to stick around and settle them. we don't talk about what really goes on with her mum's medication. then one day she steps in front of a bus near waterloo station. sad! did she mean to do it? why'd she do it? suddenly a lot of people feel a little uncomfortable! follow their separate efforts to map out the final week of rita's life! [the theme is probs the first minute or so of the track and cuts between various characters going about their daily business and looking spontaneously uncomfortable at the end of each shot idk]

"Kill V Maim"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2EJMd7ZN7w

ok mine is a cyberpunk epic with kill v maim by grimes as the intro song, and it's dedicated to pots

So we start on this Jewish mining planet with our main character, 19 yo Frederico, who was born to a single mother on the periphery of the main planetary settlements. He's a popular kid and got a loyal crew following him, but his planet is raided by an unknown imperial assailant and he is forced to flee with a couple of his crew into the remote parts of the planet, where he discovers a terrible secret.

I think I'd want my series to have a kind of contemporary Twin Peaks-ism where it trades quirky deadpan humour off against moments of disarming sincerity; the end creds would focus on the latter. The show kinda parodies how self-absorbed the main characters are; the creds would an unravelling of this, a montage of them interacting with minor characters in a way that frames them non-focally as part of a wider community. By the end of the credits the audience would get this sense of "oh ok, this filmworld is bigger than these characters and the narrative we're seeing isn't as all-consuming within it as it's made out to be during the episodes," and this should feel like relaxing kinda release. Song is dope.

Tomorrowland type of show, takes place in the future yada-yada, think Guardians of the Galaxy aesthetic, yee. Guess the main manager guy of the park could be a bad dude so on and so forth, and some people in the park could foil his plans. The dudes have superpowers too cause why not, you know the ending fight scene of Star Trek Into Darkness? kinda feel like a scene like that would fit. Cliche ass story but it'd look damn good doin' it, ya feel. But overall just listen to the song as if you where sprawling through the theme park etc. etc. Also the song could play in it's entirety in only the first episode to have a little set up in a The Incredibles (Pixar movie, incase people are incultured) styled short movie (you know which type I mean), perhaps a snippet of the song on other episodes there after. Probably the very start of the song could be a good intro jingle until like 0:12, short but sweet

It’d be dark as fuck.

"Baphomet's Throne"

https://youtu.be/o09mull0wZI

If I could make my own TV show, that'd be a dark fantasy series based on the God Wars trilogy written by Mark Eller and Elizabeth Draper. Those books are pretty metal since they're filled with murder, betrayal, gore etc. + plenty of chapters are about Hell and the evil gods, and I thought the album 'Ceremony Of Opposites' by Samael was very matching listen to the books. So I could easily imagine 'Baphomet's Throne' as a theme song for that series~

"Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oxvursQVF0

I've always had the idea of a show that would essentially be an elongated version of Hertzfeldt's "It's Such a Beautiful Day" films - a crudely animated, heavily existential journey of one man and his interaction with the world around him. Like a cartoon version of Seinfeld, in some ways, but far less outwardly jokey - a very bone-dry riff on "a show abut nothing" that actually ends up being a show about everything. Though the films I'm referencing take liberty with (mostly) classical music, I'd like to add a bit more buoyancy, since I'm not merely zoomed into the microscopic end of this man's life. Thus my theme song choice would be boppy, playful, and somewhat cartoon-ish, highlighted by an undercurrent of melancholy.

"Into The Everflow"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SsBwRxIvmo

My series will be about a post-apocaliptic setting with a lot psychologic shit between characters. The premise is that we've been worshiping the wrong god this whole time and he thinks it's time for judgement day. About 90% off the population suddenly vanishes with only those free of sin remaining. If you sin once you get swooshed away and the sin you comitted gets written on your forehead. So it's up to a group of people to record every sin that exists and try to fix the world. It has a lot to do with psycholigy like Das Experiment, where humans turn on themselves because they can. It isn't about survival in the literal sense, just about staying sane in this world. The opening has a lot of refrences too god and is very dark in tone.

"Theme for the Eulipions"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4RgOoHKw_s

My show is about a traveling troubadour. He’s an aloof man that is something of a legend and a mystery, and he just spreads his art across the country's seedier areas. The show is structured as our main man being a bit of a transitional piece in each episode. Let’s say he is staying in a lounge or playing on a sidewalk somewhere and he tangentially encounters someone who is in some sort of life trouble. Gangs, domestic disputes, corruption, depression, crimes, etc. He’s a witness to all this, but is more of an omnipresent observer. As the episode progresses with whatever character we deal with it always comes full circle to our main man as he leaves the area that he visits to continue his mission. He’s never shocked or surprised by the conclusion of the episode’s main character because he has seen it all before.

my perpetual lack of sobriety does not stop for synopsis', but if it did it'd probably be for a show about a group of journalists who are trying to blow the whistle on a big pharmaceutical company, though they can't get the greenlight from their higher-ups and have to find a way around it by basically bullshitting feel-good news stories as a decoy while they try to find a workaround for blowing the whistle without being tied to it whatsoever. then again, i blow donkey dicks at this fuckin game
