Albums With Fewer Than 15 Ratings III | A Diary(?)
I started using my "Albums With Fewer Than 15 Ratings" list as a sort of listening diary and kind of liked doing it, so I'm gonna do another one. No schedule, just whenever inspiration hits. You don't have to care, I promise. |
1 | | Republic of Freedom Fighters Republic of Freedom Fighters
Date: January 4, 2020
Screamo | Released: 1996 | Label: The Mountain Collective For Independent Artists, Ltd. | Ratings: 4
Starting things off right with that label name. This is a short-lived screamo band (one of many) that has a lot of what I look for in hardcore: D.I.Y., lo-fi, sharp guitars, solid drumming, vox that doesn't make me want to drive a nail into my ear. I've got a soft spot for all these things and the best emo/screamo/whatever-you-call-it has these traits in spades.
Also, Carey Mercer from Frog Eyes and Swan Lake was in this band. I'm flippin' out. |
2 | | Brunch Club Another Wasted Summer
Date: January 10, 2020
Twee Pop | Released: 2019 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Released at the tail-end of 2019, this one completely flew under my radar. Which is a damn shame, cause a ton of great twee pop released in 2019 for some reason and I probably would've put this in my AOTY deliberations. It's also a (loose) concept album about wasting time. Who knows more about wasting time than Mr. Me? No one, that's who. |
3 | | Felt Tongue Demos
Date: January 11, 2020
Art Punk / Noise Rock | Released: 2019 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Digging through bandcamp is probably my new favorite pastime. There are so many good bands that are just starting out and post whatever under-produced shit they've got laying around under the title of being a "demo." And I wouldn't have it any other way. The best stuff is usually free from the constraints of a studio (this one was recorded on an iPhone according to the album's description). Now THAT'S D.I.Y. |
4 | | Deliluh Day Catcher
Date: January 11, 2020
Post-Punk | Released: 2017 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
My first back-to-back entry on this list, how exciting. Deliluh plays that slick ππππππ πππππππ ππππ ππππ-style indie post-punk that I dig. "No I.D. Denied" makes me want to cry it's so good. |
5 | | Bug Eater Bug Eater
Date: January 12, 2020
Indie Rock | Released: 2019 | Label: Cooked Raw | Ratings: 1
Alright, 5 entries in and we've already got too many albums from 2019. Nice little solo indie/slowcore deal here. Thanks random RYM user for adding it to the corrections queue so I could find it.
Wish people on bandcamp would properly tag their shit, cause this one is tagged with such helpful, easy-to-search-for tags as "alternative," "off-kilter," and "slow." Not "slowcore." "Slow." Thanks guy. |
6 | | Frites Modern Veel, Vet, Goor en Duur
Date: January 18, 2020
Punk | Released: 1984 | Label: Boy Bensdorp Platen | Ratings: 3
Some quintessential punk "rawk," emphasis on "rawk." |
7 | | Blueboy If Wishes Were Horses
Date: January 28, 2020
Twee Pop / Jangle Pop | Released: 1992 | Label: Sarah | Ratings: 5
Me? Liking a Sarah Records band? It's more likely than you think.
This sounds more like bossa nova or something than twee, but I still dug it. Mellow beach tunes for late January. |
8 | | Uzi Sleep Asylum
Date: February 3, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 1986 | Label: Homestead | Ratings: 5
Too well-known to be on my "Unknown Post-Punk" continuation list thing, so I'm putting it here. Alternative-flavored post-punk EP released on the same label ππππππ πππππππ ππππ ππππ was signed to, you figure it out. |
9 | | Jupiter Suction Zenith's Gift
Date: February 8, 2020
Zolo | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Another bandcamp "e-crate-digging" find. This is a 1990s band releasing their music from 1993-1996 25 years later. Ain't technology grand?
Weird zolo/indie, don't really know how to describe it. |
10 | | The Bartlebees The Bartlebees
Date: February 18, 2020
Twee Pop / Jangle Pop | Released: 1993 | Label: Little Teddy | Ratings: 2
Checked these guys entire discog (minus some splits but whatever) and it made me appreciate this one more than I used to. Definitely not original, but it's quality. |
11 | | Shimmer Shimmer
Date: February 20, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 2017 | Label: Drop Medium | Ratings: 4
Other 3 ratings this has are egregious, if I'm being frank.
Vocals make my throat hurt and ears bleed, highly recommended. π |
12 | | Nthng It Never Ends
Date: February 26, 2020
Techno | Released: 2017 | Label: Lobster Theremin | Ratings: 13
Artist rec'd by dedex (on parksungjoon's "You Can (Not) Read This All" list).
Not gonna pretend I'm super into whatever sub-genre of techno/house this is, but I enjoyed it.
Unrelated diary tangent:
Music like this always makes me remember the late 90s sitting in the damp basement playing PS1. I'm sure there's a better name for that style/sound, but I've heard it called the "Y2K" aesthetic and I'm all for that.

Cool that the late-90s/00s will have a style associated with it that's actually interesting to look at. |
13 | | Parts and Labor Groundswell
Date: March 2, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 2003 | Label: JMZ | Ratings: 1
Nothing I could say here could do this album justice. Listen now for the highest lowest-quality 2000s experimental rock ever made by man. |
14 | | Barlow Fell Asleep
Date: March 10, 2020
Noise Pop | Released: 2013 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 4
Went through their discography (well, most of it). This EP was the best of the lot. Also happens to be the only release of theirs on sputnik with more than 1 rating. Fair enough, I guess. |
15 | | Magnog Magnog
Date: March 11, 2020
Post-Rock | Released: 1996 | Label: Kranky | Ratings: 9
Cool psych post-rock thing. Wish I liked it more than I did. |
16 | | Karma O Cristo Tuni Saniia
Date: March 16, 2020
Hypnagogic Pop | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
I did a lot today listening-wise. Checked the back half of Stephen Malkmus's solo discography, only to discover the only one that I really needed to listen to was his newest one (Traditional Techniques). And I went on bandcamp and randomly found two really strange 2020 releases. Here's one of them, a "post-grunge," "mumble," "esoteric" album. Sure, whatever man. |
17 | | Labradoodle Life Is Better
Date: March 16, 2020
Art Rock | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
And here's the other one, a "children's music for adults" album.
Just tag your shit normally damn it, ain't nobody gonna search for that.
Unrelated diary tangent:
2020 has gotten off to a really poor start. And (at risk of dating this list even more than I already have) I'm not just talking about the virus. Hope I can push myself to check bandcamp once in a while, cause all of the interesting stuff is coming out on there. Adding new albums to RYM and sputnik drains my lifeforce though, so maybe I'll just stop listening to new things. Tempting. |
18 | | Tyrades Tyrades
Date: March 18, 2020
Punk | Released: 2003 | Label: Broken Rekids | Ratings: 1
Straight-forward punk rock with gruff female vox.
2003 distilled down to its purest form, at least for me. |
19 | | The Frustrations Ace Driver
Date: March 19, 2020
Indie Rock | Released: 1996 | Label: Fear Of Children | Ratings: 1
Not one to make a big deal out of this stuff, but for prosperity: this is my 18000th rating. And what a pick, cause this is a certified 10/10 EP. Nice jangly lo-fi indie rock, my favorite.
Wonder if they'll lock me out of my account at 20k ratings. |
20 | | The Savage Young Taterbug Shadow Of Marlboro Man
Date: March 22, 2020
Lo-Fi | Released: 2016 | Label: Night People | Ratings: 4
"Lo-fi? What kinda genre is that?"
This little EP has so many influences, it's hard to pick a genre for it. But it is undoubtedly, almost distressingly, lo-fi, so that's what I'll call it. Halfway between ambient pop and indie rock, rest of their discography leans more to the former. |
21 | | Serafine L'Envers
Date: March 24, 2020
Post-Rock | Released: 2020 | Label: Warooba | Ratings: 1
I might regret saying this later, but I have to: 2020 sucks so far.
Whatever, here's something I found on bandcamp.
Alright, back into quarantine I go. |
22 | | Pardoner kidney pool
Date: March 27, 2020
Indie Rock | Released: 2019 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Story time:
I was checking these guys because of my (secret) Papa Universe-related project, but apparently he already made a list entry for these guys back in September 2017. But this EP was so good, I felt I had to write about it somewhere so here we are.
Good EP. |
23 | | Rose Mercie Rose Mercie
Date: March 31, 2020
Art Punk | Released: 2018 | Label: Jelodanti, SDZ | Ratings: 1
Nearly done with the Papa Uni list, but I'm challenging myself to find offbeat albums for the final stretch. Rose Mercie is from France, which isn't nearly 'exotic' enough so I'm putting this here. Art Punk with an indie edge, my favorite. |
24 | | Anrimeal Could Divine
Date: April 3, 2020
Avant-Folk | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
After all that post-punk I listened to, I needed something beautiful and crisp. This fit the bill. |
25 | | Michelle Blades ATARAXIA
Date: April 14, 2020
Art Pop | Released: 2015 | Label: Midnight Special | Ratings: 1
So this gal's first album was a straight-forward indie folk thing, so I just assumed that all her stuff would sound like that.
Wrong, this is an art pop album with a ton of personality. Awesome little surprise, can't wait to check the rest of her stuff. |
26 | | Stump A Fierce Pancake
Date: April 27, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 1988 | Label: Chrysalis | Ratings: 6
A zolo/post-punk album? Yes please. |
27 | | Cartoon Lizard Bless You, Thank You
Date: May 4, 2020
Psychedelic Pop | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
A 10-track EP? Just call it an album you mad fools.
This is really good neo-psychedelia, reminds me of early ππππππ πππππππ ππππ ππππ. Couldn't believe I had to add this to both sputnik AND RYM. Get it together guys.
Oh, and this is my 18300th rating.
Yay. π |
28 | | Ravioli Me Away Living is a Myth
Date: May 4, 2020
Art Punk / Post-Punk | Released: 2016 | Label: Upset the Rhythm | Ratings: 1
This should be a lot more annoying than it is. |
29 | | Golden Grrrls Golden Grrrls
Date: May 12, 2020
Twee Pop | Released: 2013 | Label: Slumberland | Ratings: 5
What's going on in Glasgow, man?
Band shares members with Sacred Paws (a twee band I gushed about in a 4.5 review) and Park Attack (one of my favorite new indie rock finds of this year). And this one is just fantastic. Gotta check like 50 more related bands now, be right back. |
30 | | Chakk Clocks and Babies
Date: May 19, 2020
Post-Punk / Dance-Punk | Released: 1982 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
We live in a magical time (generally). A time when random indie acts can post their old albums online 30 years later and find an entirely new audience. Chakk's first album dabbles in dance and industrial for a really neat record. Hope the rest of their stuff is as good.
Edit: "Hope the rest of their stuff is as good."
It isn't. Oh well... |
31 | | Pre Hope Freaks
Date: June 10, 2020
Noise Rock / Post-Hardcore | Released: 2009 | Label: Skin Graft | Ratings: 9
Found out about these guys through Skin Graft's bandcamp. Nothing else to say, album is good. |
32 | | Lewsberg In This House
Date: June 17, 2020
Indie Rock / Art Rock | Released: 2020 | Label: 12XU | Ratings: 2
I've been severely slacking on my 2020 listening, so here's something I nicked off an RYM user's list. |
33 | | Deeper Auto-Pain
Date: June 17, 2020
Post-Punk / Indie Rock | Released: 2020 | Label: Fire Talk | Ratings: 4
And here's another one off that same list.
With all the lists that I have going right now, I think this is the year I truly fall behind everyone else. I'll have to do some intense catch-up later in the year. |
34 | | Mukimukimanmansu 2012
Date: June 19, 2020
Freak Folk / Folk Punk | Released: 2012 | Label: SuperStars | Ratings: 13
I've been putting this one off for a while now. This (now defunct) duo from South Korea mixes standard folk rock with a more avant-folk style. I'm hesitant to call this "freak folk," but I don't have a better descriptor for it. |
35 | | The Washout Corporation The Washout Corporation
Date: June 19, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 1999 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
I come across a lot of wacko shit, but this one threw me for a loop. It's like... shitty 90s alternative rock, but good? Or like some weird bastardization of radio rock made by loons?
I didn't really like it at first. But the longer it went on, the more started I liked it. One of those explainable guilty pleasures. |
36 | | Idi Et Amin Texas Rose
Date: June 26, 2020
Shoegaze | Released: 2019 | Label: ΒΏPor Que No? | Ratings: 1
My Blatant Valentine. |
37 | | L. Voag The Way Out
Date: June 30, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 1979 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 2
Was looking for some stuff to add to "Unknown Post-Punk #6," but this already showed up on a previous entry. Really wish Universe didn't go and delete all his ratings...
Whatever, this was pretty good. |
38 | | Ah God Ah Fuck
Date: July 7, 2020
Lo-Fi Indie | Released: 2013 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Will never understand how people complain about not having music to listen to. For example, here's something I found digging through the recommended albums on bandcamp. Lo-fi garage/psych/indie punk for the soul. Total search time: 5 minutes.
Lazy people, man. |
39 | | Nape Neck Nape Neck
Date: July 9, 2020
Art Punk | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
GhandhiLion rec.
2020 doesn't have the big releases that 2019 had, but damn does it have a ton of great, short EP-length... things. I'm not sure I should call this an album, but I don't really care enough to make that distinction. Just kidding, I do care and it's making me tear my hair out. |
40 | | Handle In Threes
Date: July 9, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 2020 | Label: Upset the Rhythm / Maternal Voice | Ratings: 2
GhandhiLion rec. [2]
Why are all the amazing "albums" this year so short? |
41 | | Lei Qiang Chinese Traditional Erhu Music 1
Date: July 19, 2020
Chinese Folk Music | Released: 1996 | Label: Oliver Sudden Productions Inc. | Ratings: 7
I was in the mood for some classical folk music, so I thought I'd give this a shot. Wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it's still pretty good. Love the erhu. |
42 | | Maisie Maisie and the Incredible Strange Choir...
Date: July 31, 2020
Experimental Rock | Released: 1998 | Label: Snowdonia | Ratings: 1
Scrapped entry from Unknown Post-Punk #6. Decided it wasn't "post-punk-y" enough. Full blurb below:
|| Completely removed from their later work, the Italian group Maisie's first album is riddled with strange vocal effects, minimal wave synths, noise passages, and other such nonsense. Honestly, I struggled in deciding whether to even call this a "post-punk" album. Those tracks also happen to be the best parts of the album, so onto the list it goes.
I Am a Compacter of Rubbish, She's a Mongoloid Pin-Up (Ruins of a Pop Hit Single), Poo-Bah ||
"...onto the list it goes"
Apparently not, idiot. |
43 | | Chyskyyrai with Tim Hodgkinson and Ken Hyder Siberia Extreme
Date: August 7, 2020
Free Jazz | Released: 2019 | Label: Indigenous Lifeforms | Ratings: 1
Recorded in May 2005, this is a Siberian throat-singer collaborating with some free jazz musicians from the UK. It's exactly what I love.
Shout-out to Arrington de Dionyso's mailing list for the recommendation. Can't wait for the new Relijun album coming soon (apparently). |
44 | | Owen Maercks Owen Maercks
Date: September 3, 2020
Art Rock | Released: 1978 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
I've been neglecting this list recently, so here's a thing I found. |
45 | | Yay Us All The Heroes Are Dead, Here We Are
Date: October 8, 2020
Indie Pop | Released: 2002 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Finally finished the Albums With Fewer Than 15 Ratings IV. Now I need to... finish Albums With Fewer Than 15 Ratings III...
I really should stop with these 100 entry lists.
Anyway, here's some punk-y indie pop. The UK is indie pop mecca. |
46 | | The Lanterns Pointless and the Moon is Cracking
Date: October 26, 2020
Alt-Country | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Bought this guy's discography on bandcamp for 12 bucks. Most of it was pretty meh. Kind of regret the purchase a bit, honestly. Makes good fodder for this list though. |
47 | | The Zoomers Exist
Date: October 27, 2020
Art Punk | Released: 2017 | Label: Mighty Mouth Music | Ratings: 1
In the middle of writing Unknown Post-Punk #6, I found this band and did a write-up for them. But after deliberating a bit, I decided not to include them. But I didn't want to throw out the write-up, so here it is:
|| Despite the release date for this album and the (un)fortunate name, the Zoomers aren't actually from this current generation. This is actually an archival release and the band is an 80s art punk group from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are basically two kinds of tracks here: artsy punk and garage rock. I definitely prefer the former to the latter, but I enjoyed this quite a bit. Definitely worth checking out. || |
48 | | Lazy Beam Pasquinade
Date: October 29, 2020
Garage Punk | Released: 2020 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Wow, 4 entires in one month. Slow down, buster.
I dunno why, but I've just caught the writing bug. Might even write a review for this. |
49 | | Cola Freaks Live WMBR 88β.β1
Date: November 19, 2020
Garage Punk | Released: 2010 | Label: Mastermind | Ratings: 1
Only just now realized I don't put very many live albums on these lists. Here's one. |
50 | | Oily Boys Cro Memory Grin
Date: November 20, 2020
Hardcore Punk | Released: 2020 | Label: Cool Death | Ratings: 3
Recommendation from GhandhiLion. Great energy on this.
I've been really filling up on punk recently. Next entry will be some solemn indie pop or something. |
51 | | The Snogs Boyfriend's Dead
Date: November 22, 2020
Twee Pop | Released: 2020 | Label: Paisley Shirt | Ratings: 3
Yeah, see? Not really solemn, but definitely indie pop. |
52 | | Happyvoid Happyvoid
Date: November 30, 2020
Shoegaze | Released: 2019 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Another 'happy' Bandcamp accident. Hot stuff. |
53 | | Sudden Death (CAN) Sudden Death
Date: December 14, 2020
Hardcore Punk | Released: 1983 | Label: Cross Bones | Ratings: 1
Thanks to parksungjoon for recommending this.
I love me some punk, what can I say? Is that a crime? |
54 | | Bathouse Bathouse
Date: January 3, 2021
Noise Rock | Released: 2020 | Label: Happiest Place | Ratings: 1
Took a short break from music, glad to be back.
Album was well worth the 85 cents it's being sold for on Bandcamp. |
55 | | Trixie's Big Red Motorbike All Day Long in Bliss
Date: January 21, 2021
Twee Pop | Released: 2012 | Label: Lobby Lud | Ratings: 8
I was planning on giving this spot to Adventures in Trixieland, but I can't find a copy of it, so this compilation will have to do. Plus, this one actually has ratings. |
56 | | Bobby Brown (USA-CA) The Enlightening Beam of Axonda
Date: January 25, 2021
Psychedelic Folk | Released: 1972 | Label: Destiny | Ratings: 1
I fell way behind on new releases in 2020 and I'm not about to fix that in 2021. Feels like nobody's releasing full albums anyway, just mini-album things or singles. At least I'll always have random 70s psych folk.
Found this on an RYM list comparing it to Exuma, but I don't really hear it aside from some Caribbean folk influence. Still pretty good though. |
57 | | Kandahar (BEL) Long Live The Sliced Ham
Date: February 4, 2021
Progressive Rock | Released: 1974 | Label: Dwarf | Ratings: 1
My days of listening to progressive rock are pretty much over, judging by how infrequently I've put prog on these diary lists. But hey, I can't help it if finding worthwhile 70s acts to check is a pain in the ass. This album isn't even all that worth talking about, I just felt like putting something prog-rock-related up here at least once. |
58 | | Warmduscher Khaki Tears
Date: February 22, 2021
Garage Punk | Released: 2015 | Label: Trashmouth | Ratings: 1
Was going to put this band on the upcoming Unknown Post-Punk #6, but decided against it. Not really "post-punk" enough, whatever that means.
Band gets progressively worse as time goes on. Shame, shame. At least this one's pretty good. |
59 | | Glazer Glazer
Date: February 26, 2021
Noise Pop / Indie Rock | Released: 2014 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
I really should be finishing up Unknown Post-Punk #6 right now (I'm only 15 entries away from completing it), but I had to make some time to go find an amazing noise rock/pop album. Well, "album." It's only 28 minutes long, but it's a really good 28 minutes. Promise. |
60 | | Los Super Seven Los Super Seven
Date: March 14, 2021
Hispanic-American Music(?) | Released: 1998 | Label: RCA | Ratings: 1
Is this what getting old feels like? Spending my Sunday listening to some RCA-signin', grammy-winnin', corporate-boot-suckin' Latin music while grilling? Los Super Seven isn't even a band, it's a "collective" managed by a suit. Can you get any more fake? They're one step off from being a boy band or something.
It's good though. |
61 | | Fruit Bats Tragedy + Time = Fruit Bats
Date: March 25, 2021
Indie Pop / Alt-Country | Released: 2004 | Label: St. Ives | Ratings: 1
In on-brand fashion, I checked a band's entire discography and liked their demos more than their finished work. I don't deserve ears, honestly. |
62 | | Sound of Ceres The Twin
Date: April 2, 2021
Dream Pop | Released: 2017 | Label: Joyful Noise | Ratings: 11
It almost feels strange putting this on a list for albums under 15 ratings, but sure enough, it fits. Only 11 ratings since 2017, what's going on here? I guess I'm just as guilty, cause I'm only checking this now.
It's meh. Not as good as their first album. |
63 | | Anatol Ana
Date: April 8, 2021
Noise Pop | Released: 2021 | Label: enjoy life | Ratings: 1
Poland has now put out my current 2021 EP of the year and album of the year.
Just what exactly is going on here? Am I going crazy? |
64 | | Pigbag Dr. Heckle and Mr. Jive
Date: April 14, 2021
Dance-Punk / Jazz-Funk | Released: 1982 | Label: Y | Ratings: 3
Don't know why I hadn't checked this band out sooner, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. |
65 | | Yeah Yeah Noh Cutting The Heavenly Lawn Of Greatness... Last Rites For The God Of Love
Date: April 21, 2021
Indie Pop / Neo-Psychedelia | Released: 1985 | Label: In Tape | Ratings: 2
For some reason, I started listening to Yeah Yeah Noh's discography back in 2018 and stopped halfway through. Guess I got distracted by something shiny like a bird.
As is usually the case with old indie pop bands, I think their EPs are better. The production here is really muddy and takes away from the songs too much. |
66 | | Primitons Don't Go Away: Collected Works
Date: April 26, 2021
Alternative Rock / Power Pop | Released: 2012 | Label: Arena Rock | Ratings: 2
I've been slowly going through Captured Tracks' Strum & Thrum compilation, which has a bunch of American jangle pop bands. Some hits, some misses. Primitons are too alternative rock for me, but they're pretty good. They get pretty lame towards the end of their career though. |
67 | | Revolving Paint Dream Off To Heaven
Date: April 26, 2021
Neo-Psychedelia / Noise Pop | Released: 1987 | Label: Creation | Ratings: 1
Another various artists compilation find. A-side is way better than the B-side, but it's a good time. Surprised this wasn't on Sputnik already, given that it was released on Creation. |
68 | | Den Za Den Den Za Den
Date: May 6, 2021
Jazz Fusion | Released: 1980 | Label: RTV Ljubljana | Ratings: 2
Recommendation from parksungjoon.
I really need to dedicate some time to getting back into jazz, but with the Unknown Post-Punk lists taking so much of my time, it's hard to make room in the docket. At least I have this really great album under my belt now. |
69 | | Raoul Vignal The Silver Veil
Date: May 14, 2021
Contemporary Folk | Released: 2017 | Label: Talitres | Ratings: 4
The best ππππππ πππππππ ππππππ ππππ rip-off you'll ever hear, but holy hell is it good. Talitres just creates amazing bands/artists in a lab for indie losers like me to enjoy. |
70 | | Growling Tiger Knockdown Calypsos
Date: June 8, 2021
Calypso | Released: 1979 | Label: Rounder | Ratings: 1
Every other month or so, I get the inclination to listen to some calypso. Don't really know why, but I guess there's worse afflictions to have. |
71 | | The Goon Sax Up To Anything

Indie Pop / Jangle Pop | Released: 2016 | Label: Chapter | Ratings: 9
Been meaning to check this band forever, but never took the plunge. New album announcement was the push I needed. Pretty good, but (and I never thought I'd say this) it's way too monotone. Some variation/energy would do this album some good. |

Hardcore Punk | Released: 2006 | Label: Youth Attack | Ratings: 8
Is this some kind of "-core?" Probably. I have no idea which one though, so I'll just call it hardcore punk. Short, but great. |

Punk Rock | Released: 1995 | Label: Silence | Ratings: 1
Not post-punk enough for the Unknown Post-Punk list I'm currently working on. It's got some new wave influence, but it's clearly more interested in fast-paced punk than anything else. Still awesome though.
Also, every time I've uploaded an album today, Sputnik slows to a crawl. Just let me upload albums, you fossil of a site. |
74 | | The Farmer's Boys Get Out and Walk
Date: July 21, 2021
Jangle Pop | Released: 1983 | Label: EMI | Ratings: 1
"EMI jangle pop? Fuck off, there's no way that'll be good."
Egg firmly on face. This is clearly major label pop (fuckin' early-80s drum machine), but it's damn good. |

Indie Pop / Twee Pop / Jangle Pop / C86(?) | Released: 1991 | Label: Emily's Shop | Ratings: 1
I was going to save this spot for my 20000th rating, but that seemed a bit much. So, here's my 19991st rating.
The melodies on this thing are out of this world. "I'm Still Waiting," man. Kills me. |
76 | | The California Rain 13 Knives, 13 Daggers
Date: September 5, 2021
Psychedelic Folk / Gamelan(?) | Released: 2021 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Quick "I haven't done an entry for this in over a month" update. Just something I found on Bandcamp. Eastern-influenced folk. And I'm not saying "eastern" to be lazy. This just kind of has elements of a lot of different kinds of Asian folk music. It's pretty good. |
77 | | The Paranoid Style Rolling Disclosure
Date: September 11, 2021
Power Pop / Indie Rock | Released: 2016 | Label: Bar/None | Ratings: 2
Hooky as hell power pop. Proof that simpler is sometimes better. |
78 | | Helena Pop A Little Human Connection
Date: October 8, 2021
Indie Folk / Indie Pop | Released: 2021 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 2
Just a great indie record. Covers a lot of subgenres, but does all of them well. Potential hit, for sure. Don't understand why it's not more popular. |

Post-Punk / Deathrock / Gothic Rock | Released: 2013 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
Stole this off of Unknown Post-Punk #4. Wasn't going to write anything about this, but damn are these vocals garbage. I know it's a demo and all, but they are so bad that it drags the awesome instrumentals down. Still pretty good. |
81 | | Cable (UK) When Animals Attack
Date: November 10, 2021
Alternative Rock / Indie Rock | Released: 1997 | Label: Infectious | Ratings: 2
Some psychos on RYM called this "psychedelic post-punk."
In what world?
It's fine alt rock. At least a few of the tracks have a pulse, unlike a lot of their contemporaries. |

Meant to check this band a while ago. Art-y no wave. Hope the rest of their discography is as good as this album. |

Been way too long since I updated this, so here's a goth post-punk band SlothcoreSam rec'd me a month ago.
Okay, bye. |

I really do have to stop doing 100 entry-long lists. Take me away, jangle boy. |

I've missed so many new releases over the past 3 years due to my various 100 entry list series. Getting back into the swing of things with a Spanish-Canadian indie pop album. |

I will not 5.0 a French folk album.
I will not 5.0 a French folk album.
I will NOT 5.0 a French avant-folk album.
It took all of my will, but I managed to stave off another first-listen 5.0. This is awesome, though; exactly what I want from my drone folk. |
88 | | Corpses as Bedmates Babaa and Scheibel=69
Date: April 30, 2022
Experimental Rock | Released: 1984 | Label: Cow-Op | Ratings: 1
Some chaotic, toneless goth rock. I could live off of this crap. Found hidden deep within the Discogs "no wave" style tag. A well so deep I almost didn't find my way out. |
89 | | Sister Suvi Now I Am Champion
Date: May 8, 2022
Indie Rock | Released: 2009 | Label: Common Cloud | Ratings: 1
Produced by Mark Lawson, featuring Merrill Garbus and some guy from Islands. What in the world. Where has this been hiding all these years? Total hidden gem that unfortunately got buried by the 2000s indie avalanche. |
90 | | The Doctors Unterwelt
Date: May 13, 2022
Gothic Rock | Released: 2016 | Label: Manic Depression | Ratings: 1
This list is turning into a "things only I have rated" list again. It's not my fault, okay? All the good ones are either completely ignored or already have well above 15 ratings. This falls under the former. These guys have chops, so I'm sure the audience will come with time.
Though, they've only just released their follow-up to this in 2022. 6 years later. Bold move. Maybe they don't care about audiences. |
91 | | Sirom I Can Be a Clay Snapper

Finally, an album with some ratings. Cool folk from Slovenia. |
92 | | The Bonniwell Music Machine The Bonniwell Music Machine
Date: May 26, 2022
Psychedelic Rock | Released: 1968 | Label: Warner Bros. | Ratings: 2
I've fallen out of love with psych/garage rock recently, but damn this has some jams. 1968 is a golden year for the genre, as always. |
93 | | Cosme Demo No. 2
Date: June 9, 2022
Punk Rock | Released: 2022 | Label: No Label | Ratings: 1
That good ol' Bandcamp demo punk. The fact Bandcamp got bought out is distressing, but I will use the site until they inevitably screw it all up. |
94 | | Sixten Redlos SlΓ₯ Alarm!
Date: June 12, 2022
Punk Rock | Released: 1987 | Label: S-Skivor | Ratings: 1
More punk, only more vintage this time. This is very basic 80s punk, so don't expect anything other than some simple riffs and hooks. It's also sung in Swedish, so I have no clue what they're singing about. Still good though. |
95 | | Cudgels God's Children
Date: June 18, 2022
Jangle Pop | Released: 1992 | Label: Bring On Bull | Ratings: 1
I've been digging through the Waaah/Bring On Bull catalog today and have found some gems. This one has a hint of 60s psych flavor. Very, very good. I could see this getting some play with the shoegaze/dream pop sect. |
96 | | The Monochrome Set Strange Boutique
Date: June 20, 2022
Post-Punk | Released: 1980 | Label: DinDisc | Ratings: 14
I rated this 6 years ago and it still has fewer than 15 ratings. Get your priorities in check, losers. |
97 | | Confetti (UK) Retrospective
Date: June 27, 2022
Twee Pop | Released: 1994 | Label: Vinyl Japan | Ratings: 1
This is the kind of twee I don't listen to: very mellow and minimalist. I can appreciate it, but I'll probably never listen to it again. |
98 | | Expo (CHE) Not-A-Talk-A
Date: July 8, 2022
New Wave | Released: 1978 | Label: Epic | Ratings: 1
70s major label "punk" rock from Switzerland. It gets a pass because it was released in '78 and the B-side is strangely stronger than the A-side. |
99 | | Touccan Full Sentimental
Date: July 10, 2022
Math Rock | Released: 2022 | Label: Ripcord | Ratings: 1
French indie/math/emo/post-hardcore/post-rock/post-whatever band that doesn't completely suck to me. Maybe it's the diminished focus on vocals. Maybe it's the strong instrumentals. Who knows. I just know that I liked it. Sometimes that's enough. This is just a last ditch effort to have some variety on this list. |
100 | | Karl Gott Jugend - Oh sΓΌsse Jugend
Date: July 19, 2022
Neue Deutsche Welle | Released: 2012 | Label: WSDP | Ratings: 1
Another stupid, 100-entry list completed. Archival release of Austrian minimal/new wave group. "Malaria" is really good, but this doesn't really get going until you get the live tracks. Love that guitar. |
