|Trying out bands we don't like, part 4|
Same dealio, different 20-o.
Lots of indie in this episode and some buttrock.
Starting off with MY BOY DALTON'S favorite band.
|1||Black Veil Brides|
Black Veil Brides
DK: 2.5, Felt pretty generic, but it wasn't absolutely terrible.
Me: 2.5, Not nearly as bad as the other album by them I've heard. Still not good, though.
DK: 1.5, I guess Trace Cyrus found a casio keyboard at a yard sale.
Me: 1.5, There's still 2 songs left but I feel solid in calling this awful
DK: 2.5, Eh. The ambience was nice, but the vocals were subpar. I liked the dog barking.
Me: 2.5, At points it was great chill background music, but the vocals sucked
|4||The All-American Rejects|
DK: 2.5, Some songs were kind of catchy, but I am definitely not the target demo.
Me: 3, MOVE ALONG MOVE ALONG LIKE I KNOW YOU DO
|5||Billy Ray Cyrus|
The Other Side
DK: 2, Generic radio country, capped off with a terrible rendition of 'Amazing Grace'.
Me: 2, Wasn't the worst until the Amazing Grace cover at the end
DK: 3.5, Good, chill 90's indie rock before the genre crawled up it's own ass.
Me: 3.5, Really enjoyed it. Good mellow listening, no real lowpoints
Pocket Full of Kryptonite
DK: 2.5, Made me think of Barenaked Ladies with a slight edge and I didn't hate them.
Me: 2.5, Very meh. Wasn't terrible but sorta just blended in with the background
|8||Ace of Base|
DK: 2, Vapid music that sucked then and sucks now.
Me: 2, Slow club music with meh vocals. No standout tracks
DK: 2, Music for ICP fans that want to venture out of their comfort zone.
Me: 2, Borderline really bad nu-metal buttrock that doesn't quite cross over to terrible
DK: 2, Started out stronger than 'Papa Roach', but went on way too long.
Me: 1.5, Didn't think it would be that bad after the first half, but it was an hour of shiiiiiiit
Devil Without a Cause
DK: 2, The best part of this album was making up communist rap lyrics instead. (we were goofin during this album)
Me: 2, I heard this a lot in my step dad's jeep growing up, maybe it's nostaglia or fond memories of the molestation
Who Let the Dogs Out
DK: 1.5, Christ that sucked. Conjured images of Burger King and shitty movies.
Me: 1.5, The title track is a jam but literally the second it ended the album went to shit. Warm, tropical shit laying on a dirty beach somewhere
DK: 2, Generic electronic pop, but I've heard way worse than this be more regarded.
Me: 2, I guess I don't get to be on the hyper-hate train
What We Live For
DK: 1.5, This shit sucks. Radio whores on par with Train. Fuck this faux folk-indie trash.
Me: 1.5, Drug on forever, no good points. Bad!
DK: 2, Engineered for maximum radio airplay and cross appeal. Better than AA, but not much.
Me: 2, Fairly inoffensive but not good
Aim and Ignite
DK: 3.5, Better than expected. See, AA and ID, THIS is how you write feel good songs: Have a soul.
Me: 3.5, I really thought I'd hate this, but it is pretty great.
Never Trust A Happy Song
DK: 2.5, Didn't grab me, but I didn't hate it either.
Me: 3, Acceptable upbeat indie pop I hear pumping from my gf's speakers and my record player like daily
DK: 2.5, Kind of blended into the background, still, it wasn't terrible.
Me: 3, Catchy at points, never irritating
|19||Foster the People|
DK: 2, I dislike 'Pumped Up Kicks', but I was curious to hear the rest. The rest sucked.
Me: 2, Super same-y aetherial echo-crap
|20||Alien Ant Farm|
DK: 3, Decent album. Not much else to say.
Me: 3, Better than I thought an album by what I imagined to be a 1-hit wonder would be
|This actually might be the lowest rated group of the whole list|
|17 and 18 are the only albums you listened to that dont suck gj|
|Damn this is vicious good stuff.|
|4 is wonderful, I love that album|
20 has Movies, that song rocks
|16 is forreal an amazing baroque pop album, one of my all-time faves. People who refuse to check it because of their more popular stuff are laaaame|
also that's not how you spell ethereal
|yeah 20 is dec, nostalgic for me. and seems like I should check 16 damn|
|also you guys have identical opinions this time|
|yes you should boyo, contrib's orders|
|"also that's not how you spell ethereal" |
Welp now I can't fix it or I'll look like a doucher.
"also you guys have identical opinions this time"
Yeah our thoughts were pretty similar on this batch other than me liking a few a tiny bit more
|can you guys do boy bands/female pop from the 90s next?|
I just want more of what u got
|The list we are working on right now is proto albums that inspired or started subgenres. When we finish that we are still up in the air on what to do next, we are leaning towards going around the world and listening to the top albums ever for a bunch of countries|
|aim and ignite by fun really aint bad, significantly better than some nights at least. if you like aim and ignite check the format dog problems its even better|
|9 is awesome.|
|I'm really enjoying seeing people's reactions to our lists, for better or worse. Our coworkers who pop in for stuff sometimes ask us "Why do you guys do this to yourselves?", and I always answer that it's a good way to pass the time while broadening our horizons, and if I'm going to declare that I think something sucks, I can at least say I gave it an honest shot.|
|I have an un-healthy love for 20, good times.|
