04.25.18 | You feel me? |
Trebor.
04.25.18 | I kinda feel you, for me it's more of a time thing
I used to listen to 7 albums a day, and now I'm lucky if I can find the time for 2.
I used to listen to everything at least 5 times, now I only top that for a handful of albums a year

04.25.18 | I feel you. I've started keeping lists on my phone outside of Sput for all the new releases in a year where I'll jot down notes (eventually it turns into my year end list), but if I notice that I haven't given an album my full attention I'll make a note to revisit it unless it just really sucks |
Toad
04.25.18 | yeah i feel you. i've been making some time for concentrated listening and viewing lately. haven't been gaming so that's opened up a lot of space even though i'm pretty busy with school and work |
Trebor.
04.25.18 | I'm gonna hear 100 albums from 2018 or die trying |
bgillesp
04.25.18 | Sometimes it's just hard to find the time to get into albums how you want. The past two weeks I've hardly even listened to music at all it feels like because I've got finals coming up in school |
bloc
04.25.18 | Read through the list description and agreed with every single point. I do the same thing. Not gonna change though lol |
AsleepInTheBack
04.25.18 | the dual cause of the problem for me is generally a) life is pretty busy and b) that there is so much music out there that I'm always eager for the next thing, rather than savouring what I'm listening to in the moment. something I've talked about with a lot of people on sput. |
bgillesp
04.25.18 | b) totally feel that too. This sometimes causes an overload for me where I don't listen to anything at all because it's too hard to pick what I want to check out |
Demon of the Fall
04.25.18 | 5 is worth your time. For me it really depends. I definitely do this but it depends on my mood, tiredness definitely plays a part.
What I try & do is any album I jam the once or twice & ‘kind of like it but not completely’ then I rate it anyway & if I forget to return I occasionally peruse my ratings, so I’ll try again later. Definitely not foolproof mind, I do this with too many albums at the minute to revisit everything.

04.25.18 | Nothing is challenging to me anymore, but I like that. I can just listen to something once and move on. |
Papa Universe
04.25.18 | I don't feel you... I've had the same set of non-existent patience with everything in the world since forever. |
Rik VII
04.25.18 | I can relate, but I mostly found a way around it by not listening to as much "background music" as I used to. There were times when I basically listened to music 24/7, whatever I was doing, if it was possible to listen to music while doing it, I did. In hindsight, it feels like that took away a lot of sensibility in my way of listening to music back then. It helps to allow yourself to appreciate the silence a lot more - because when you're used to having music on all the time, you start to not care for the details as much, you start to see everyting as a given, since it's all just a mesh of sound anyway. Sooo, just turning off from time to time I feel made me listen to music much more consciously and with more attention to all the details, you realize that every note you hear has been set there by a musician for a purpose and noticing and acknowleding all of them means basically opening yourself to the music. So yeah, I think that would be my advice ... Just turn off the music from time to time, appreciate the silence, stop listening to music "just because" - if you don't feel like listening to music, don't do it. At least in my case, it made me "feel" the things that I heard much more than before when I just oversaturated myself with music all the time. |
AsleepInTheBack
04.25.18 | Hmm yeah Demon I do that too, but 9 times out of 10 forget to go back to it.
Sounds like solid advice Rik. I basically listen to music whenever possible, so I may try reducing that like you said |
Beardog
04.26.18 | Yeah I feel ya... To be honest I think the way to get back to it is to just force yourself to listen to an album without doing anything else; It works best on public transport and when lying in bed for me |
Demon of the Fall
04.26.18 | @Rik: I understand what you're saying but I find listening to music (almost) 24/7 at work is beneficial for me.
There are many albums I've played at work & then 'promoted' them to headphones/home listening. It's loud enough to get a decent idea what's going on & helps me filter through stuff I otherwise might neglect. It definitely doesn't work for certain genres mind. |
AsleepInTheBack
04.26.18 | hm yeah, a bit of music in the background when I'm working can really help me focus sometimes, but it can mean that when put something on in the evening to really listen to I'm already a bit burnt out musically. |

04.26.18 | Gas is so shit |
Prancer
04.26.18 | lol you're all privileged music listeners. |
UpwardSpiral
04.26.18 | I rememberjust lying in bed and listening to the Moon is a dead world for the first couple of times. That was amazing. I rarely do that anymore. My patience starts to wane when I want to check out too many new albums in a short period. |
AsleepInTheBack
04.26.18 | mm, it used to be that I'd listen to most new records in bed with the lights off. gotta get back to that. |
JustJoe.
04.26.18 | I swear I only listen to like 10 minutes of music a day. Part of me wants to attribute it to simply being spent from those years & years of listening to everything I possibly could. But, honestly, once I stopped needing to consume new[er]--to me--music, the more I was able to grow in my enjoyment of my favorite records. |
JustJoe.
04.26.18 | But that's just me. |
UpwardSpiral
04.26.18 | yes the period of amassing more and more (music, movies etc.) is also over for me. |
JustJoe.
04.26.18 | I am envious a bit. I do feel like there are things out there that I'd very much enjoy if I heard it. Mostly, I follow the releases of favorite artists I'm already quite familiar with. |
Demon of the Fall
04.26.18 | That was me for many years & then one day I just got bored/tired of the same old stuff, now I feel reenergised as far as music is concerned & my taste is virtually unrecognisable. I feel as though my choice was to either make a concerted effort to find 'new' music (not modern, just new to me) or my interest would completely evaporate.
Maybe one day I'll return to my old favourites, there's still a few I listen to semi-regularly, but most of them don't seem to be the same anymore. |
Beardog
04.26.18 | I actually feel like I'm following way too much music. I don't really listen to full albums that much anymore and if I do I mostly check out new music I've downloaded and haven't had the time to check it out. I do have a long holiday ahead in which I have plenty of time to catch up and re-listen some favourites |
