| Avenged Sevenfold Ranked
I just revisited this band I used to love. Overall perspective has changed a bit, but I do think this band is more disliked than deserved. | 6 | | Avenged Sevenfold Hail to the King
The Rev provided them with a lot of their creativity, whether it's what he helped write with the band, or even the topic of his unfortunate death. This is the first album they released where the Rev contributed to none of it. It seemed more like they tried to pay tribute to whoever they listened to before, but in the end the album sounded like a copy of the Black Album by Metallica. Requiem is still a fairly interesting song, and the bonus track St. James is a very solid track that's probably better than the whole album. Not a strong effort on their part. 2/5 | 5 | | Avenged Sevenfold Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
I don't like this album, but I can appreciate it's value more than I can appreciate Hail to the King. It's a very poorly recorded record, and 3/5ths of the band's lineup was even present. Synyster gates and johnny christ were not on this album, which made the guitar tone sound dull. The songwriting isn't particularly great, and the vocals are hard to listen to. Musically, however, it is superior to Hail, but I really don't like this one. Warmnness of the Soul is a very bizarre single choice for this album, by the way. It sounds absolutely nothing like the rest of the album. 2/5 | 4 | | Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold
This is basically the Minutes to Midnight for A7X. They wanted to experiment a lot so they could comfortably evolve out of their previous style, but they executed it poorly. Afterlife is probably one of the best songs they've ever made, with Gunslinger not too far behind. Brompton Cocktail begins with a staticy sound, which then erupts into another heavy track that is a highlight to the album (including a delayed divebomb). However, other tracks (Scream, Unbound, Dear God) just don't fit in on the album, or even in the Avenged Sevenfold discography. A Little Piece of Heaven is one cynical song that kinda seems too over the top with it's violence and darkness that it's value as a song is decreased, and the vocal performance on it is dreadful. This album has a lot of great songs on it, but also has some of their worst, so it fails as an album overall. I sort of like it, but I would only listen to 3-4 songs from it. 2.5/5 | 3 | | Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare
Losing a band member is tough to go through, and everyone in A7X were better friends than most band members. Losing one of those friends is a devastating thing to go through, and this band seemed to agree. This album is their best lyrically (and vocally for M Shadows as well). Featuring agressive tracks such as Nightmare, Natural Born Killer, and God Hates Us, while also providing quieter haunting tracks like Fiction and Victim, this album shows both the anger and the devastation that they felt. With the drums on the album provided my Mike Portnoy, the drums on this album are as good as Revs. The closing track Save Me has a heavy Dream Theater influence on it. The track is stellar, and i think is the longest track of theirs. I really enjoy this album overall and I think it showed signs of a darker, more mature A7X than shown before. Of course, with Hail that didn't happen and Nightmare was a one time thing for this band, but it is a very strong record in doing so. 3.5/5 | 2 | | Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen
The album that this website likes the most, Waking the Fallen was the album that put them on the radar. Chapter Four, Second Heartbeat, Reminissions, I Won't See You Tonight (1&2), Unholy Confessions, Clairvoyant Diseaes, Radiant Eclipse, Eternal Rest, this albm contains a ton of classic tracks in their career. At the same time, the album has a lot of weaker moments scattered amongst the tracks, especially on the closer And All Things Will End. Shadows's screaming is easier to listen to, and contrasts with the music well. Syn's guitar work on this album (especially on Second Heartbeat) are really solid. This album is practically tied for 1st place. 4/5 | 1 | | Avenged Sevenfold City of Evil
The most compact album from the band. Syn and Zacky's guitar work is fantastic. The way the songs flow is perfect, especially Beast and the Harlot to Burn it Down. The Rev's drumming is fantastic on this album, and it carries some of their best tracks (Burn it Down, Sidewinder), including my favorite from them (MIA). Like all albums, it is flawed. Songs (such as Blinded in Chains and Strength of the World) can get to a point where they feel way too long, as the album is an extremely long album for 11 tracks. Also, this is M Shadows worst album vocally (save STSS). With that being said, Syn and Zacky handle the backing vocals pretty well, and this album is musically superior to anything they've ever done. 4/5 | |

11.01.15 | City of Evil and Waking the Fallen are pretty good, yeah. If I had to rank this band's discography, I'd do it in this exact order. | almosttolerable
11.01.15 | Made almost the same list before, but with 2 and 3 switched.
