Looking for Pop Recs!

I've seen a lot of lists like this and I've never tried one...until now. I'm looking for recommendations of your favorite pop albums - preferably ones that aren't from mainstream artists (or fuck it, if there's some gem of an album by someone like Brittney Spears that I'm unaware of, be my guest). First come first serve, I'll give anything an honest try. Looking for 1-2 albums for each weekday for the rest of the month since I've got plenty of time to listen to music in the office. And I'm also not picky about subgenres of pop or anything like that. Could be hyperpop, techno pop, synth pop, pop rock, etc. Just want some poppy stuff that I haven't heard.
1Janelle Monae
Dirty Computer

- Monday, August 18 -

JANELLE MONAE - DIRTY COMPUTER (recommended by RadioSuicide, technically a re-listen but eh it's been years, tastes change)

THOUGHTS: Pretty inconsistent, but I enjoyed a lot of this. Honestly, if you cut out a lot of the rap parts (I'm just not a fan of her rapping for some reason) and all of 'Don't Judge Me,' this would probably get a higher score. In reality, likely a between a 3 and 3.5 but I'll keep it at a 3 for now.

BEST SONGS: Crazy, Classic, Life/Pynk/Make Me Feel
2Sasha and the Valentines
So You Think You Found Love?

- Tuesday, August 19 -

SASHA & THE VALENTINES - SO YOU THINK YOU FOUND LOVE (recommended by Budgie)

THOUGHTS: This was a pleasant surprise! I'm not usually into this style of dream pop (I hope that's the right term for it) but I enjoyed it. Some songs were a touch boring imo but it wasn't a consistent enough problem to make me hate the album. Don't know if/when I'll come back to this, but I for sure don't regret hearing it. Solid 3.5!

BEST SONGS: Angel/Flower/I See The Light
3Madeline Kenney
Perfect Shapes

- Tuesday, August 19 -

MADELINE KENNEY - PERFECT SHAPES (recommended by Budgie)

THOUGHTS: Sorry boss, this one wasn't for me. I can respect the musicianship (the layered instrumentals and synths can be quite nice at times) but this has barely any staying power, and the songs start blending together around the halfway point. Pleasant background music I suppose, but not much else. I'll probably give this a 2.5.

BEST SONGS: Hmm maybe Your Art? I thought The Flavor of the Fruit Tree was decent as well.
4Belinda Carlisle
Runaway Horses

- Wednesday, August 20 -

BELINDA CARLISLE - RUNAWAY HORSES (recommended by anthropod)

THOUGHTS: Eh, like most typical 80s pop albums, it's mostly fun, but drags its ass at parts. Plus by around song 8 or so I was wondering when it'd be over. I'll add a few songs to a Spotify playlist but probably not much else. I'll give this a 3.

BEST SONGS: Leave a Light On/Runaway Horses/Summer Rain
5Poets of the Fall
Signs of Life

- Wednesday, August 20 -

POETS OF THE FALL - SIGNS OF LIFE (recommended by anthropod)

THOUGHTS: I don't want to be too harsh; clearly this album is well-liked based on the average. But if I'm being honest, I don't get why lmao maybe it was more unique/fresh at the time? But this all feels so stale and overdone, and quite frankly, it was a slog to get through. And perhaps my criticism is unfair - it's not like this is offensively terrible. It's just not my style of pop rock I suppose, and there's very little reason to think I'll come back to this. Maybe I'll give another album of theirs a shot someday, but for now I'm leaning towards a 2 or 2.5 for this. Sorry :(

BEST SONGS: Don't Mess With Me and Illusion & Dream were decent.
6White Moth Black Butterfly
Atone

- Thursday, August 21 -

WHITE MOTH BLACK BUTTERFLY - ATONE (recommended by Zac124)

THOUGHTS: Ooooo this was good! Gotta say, normally this style of ambient pop isn't my thing, but I love the cinematic feel of it. Definitely is an album that I'd rather do from front-to-back if I'm gonna relisten to it at all, and I prefer the female singer over the guy by a lot. But all-in-all, this was a pleasant surprise! Solid 3.5.

BEST SONGS: An Ocean Away/The Sage/The Serpent
7The Black Queen
Fever Daydream

- Thursday, August 21 -

THE BLACK QUEEN - FEVER DAYDREAM (recommended by Zac124)

THOUGHTS: I had never heard this side of Puciato before, I'm honestly surprised how well his voice works with this genre of music. This was one of those albums though where I felt he highlights were WAY better than the rest of the album - not that the majority of the album is bad though, it just felt inconsistent. Solid 3.5!

BEST SONGS: Ice to Never/The End Where We Start/That Death Cannot Touch
8Madonna
Like a Prayer

- Friday, August 22 -

MADONNA - LIKE A PRAYER (recommended by Mephorbus)

THOUGHTS: Before this, the only full Madonna album I'd heard is her debut, which was a nice comfortable 3.5. I didn't really think her albums would be all that special, but this proved me wrong! I didn't care for the slow tracks, but as I said with the Belinda Carlisle album, that's pretty typical of the era. Went back and forth between a 4 and a 4.5, I think I'll settle on a 4 for now, but I could see the rating going up one day.

BEST SONGS: Like A Prayer (duh)/Love Song/Cherish/Keep It Together
9Kero Kero Bonito
Civilisation I

- Friday, August 22 -

KERO KERO BONITO - CIVILISATION I

THOUGHTS: What a fun EP! Not much to say about it since it's only 3 tracks, but the production on this thing is stellar throughout. This kind of reminds of Magdalena Bay, who I'm a big fan of. Solid 4 for sure.

BEST SONGS: Battle Lines/The River
10Janet Jackson
Rhythm Nation 1814

- Monday, August 25 -

JANET JACKSON - RHYTHM NATION (recommended by jrlikestodance)

THOUGHTS: Sweet, another quality 80's pop album! This one was a bit of a mixed bag - the songs I liked I REALLY fuckin liked, like they're S-tier 80's pop songs. But my goodness do some songs just NOT know when to end, and the album as a whole is pretty bloated. Might need a second listen to finalize a rating, but 3.5 seems good for now.

BEST SONGS: State of the World/Miss You Much/Escapade/Black Cat
11Arthur Moon
Arthur Moon

- Monday, August 25 -

ARTHUR MOON - ARTHUR MOON (recommended by Calc)

THOUGHTS: Experimental, but pretty cool! Thought it was a bit too frontloaded unfortunately, but I really like their (her? Can't tell if this is one person or a band) sound and am curious to hear more. Solid 3.5.

BEST SONGS: Homonormo/Reverse Conversion Therapy/Myelin
12Marina
The Family Jewels

- Tuesday, August 26 -

MARINA (AND THE DIAMONDS) - THE FAMILY JEWELS (recommended by el_newg)

THOUGHTS: Marina in general is such mixed bag to me. Her voice is hit-or-miss in my opinion, but man does she know how to write a hook. But at the same time, it's like each of her albums have 1-4 songs that I just don't find enjoyable at all. Might need to give this another listen, but I at least think I like this more than Electra Heart. I'll give a 3.5 for now but it has potential to go up to a 4.

BEST SONGS: Are You Satisfied?/Hollywood/Outsider/Oh No!
13Purity Ring
Another Eternity

- Tuesday, August 26 -

PURITY RING - ANOTHER ETERNITY (recommended by el_newg)

THOUGHTS: The comparison to Chvrches ended up being spot on, I just wish this album did more to stand out. Some of the songs were pretty fun, but I feel like the beats began to get repetitive after a while and some songs sound a bit same-y because of it. I'll give it a 3 for now, but I'm very interested to hear their debut given how much higher the average is on this site.

BEST SONGS: heartsigh/push pull/flood on the floor
14Dorian Electra
Fanfare

- Wednesday, August 27 -

DORIAN ELECTRA - FANFARE (recommended by Rolling Girl)

THOUGHTS: Damn, this shit slaps hard. I love the blend of hyperpop with things like industrial/alternative sounds as well. Some of the lyrics are a BIT on the nose, and I enjoyed the first half over the second, but I can for sure see myself coming back to this. Definitely a 4.

BEST SONGS: Symphony/Sodom & Gomorrah/Manmade Horrors/Phonies
15FLETCHER
Girl Of My Dreams

- Wednesday, August 27 -

FLETCHER - GIRL OF MY DREAMS (recommended by Rolling Girl)

THOUGHTS: Ah, yes - Taylor Swift-core. Jokes aside, this isn't AS bad as I thought it would be. Yes, many of the songs have cringey lyrics, and there's quite a few snoozers too. But y'know what, there were a handful of surprisingly catchy tracks that keep the album from getting a negative score. Be proud of the 2.5 you're gonna get for this, Fletcher.

BEST SONGS: Girl of My Dreams/Suckerpunch/Becky's So Hot
16Ninajirachi
I Love My Computer

- Thursday, August 28 -

NINAJIRACHI - I LOVE MY COMPUTER (recommended by Cylinder)

THOUGHTS: This is the best kind of zoomer pop (at least so far). I love the beats on this album - I'm not a club person but this makes me wanna go to a rave or something. Oddly enough, one of the only parts I didn't like was the slower song at the end where she actually sings. But still, this was great fun, and easily worthy of a 4.

BEST SONGS: iPod Touch/Fuck My Computer/Delete/Infohazard/It's You
17Beach House
Devotion

- Thursday, August 28 -

BEACH HOUSE - DEVOTION (recommended by Hawks)

THOUGHTS: I really liked this, but I feel like it'd take a few more listens for me to articulate my thoughts on it. It was very pleasant, and the musicianship is stellar. I just found a couple songs to be a BIT on the boring side. I'd say it's a 3.5 for now, with potential to improve upon relistens.

BEST SONGS: Wedding Bell/Gila/Astronaut
18Gia Margaret
There's Always Glimmer

- Friday, August 29 -

GIA MARGARET - THERE'S ALWAYS GLIMMER (recommended by Hawks)

THOUGHTS: I'm starting to feel like this kind of laid back, ethereal/atmospheric pop is your thing lol and this one was awesome! Gotta hand it to you, normally I'm not a fan of this style of music, but her voice is amazing and the instrumental accompaniments offer just enough variety to keep me hooked. The piano playing is top notch as well. Similar to the Beach House one, I'll give this a 3.5 for now but there's definitely potential for this to grow on me more.

BEST SONGS: Birthday/Figures/In Normal Ways/Looking
19Julia Holter
Ekstasis

- Friday, August 29 -

JULIA HOLTER - EKSTASIS (recommended by deathconscious)

THOUGHTS: I'm gonna file this one under albums I respect much more than I enjoy. Don't get me wrong - this was impressive, and I didn't actively dislike it, it's just not a style of pop I've ever really forayed into and I'm not sure how eager I am to do it again lol. I'll give this a 3 mostly for the musicianship, and there definitely some moments I enjoyed.

BEST SONGS: In the Same Room/Fur Felix
20U.S. Girls
In A Poem Unlimited

- Monday, September 2 - (BONUS ROUND)

U.S. GIRLS - IN A POEM UNLIMITED (recommended by PanosChris)

THOUGHTS: Oh HELL yes. This shit slaps from beginning to end. Very much gives me some Talking Heads vibes at times, especially in that awesome closer. For sure a 4.5, and I'd say this has potential to go up to a 5 over time.

BEST SONGS: M.A.H./Pearly Gates/Time
21after
After EP

- Monday, September 2 - (BONUS ROUND)

AFTER - AFTER EP (recommended by RVAHC13)

THOUGHTS: Solid debut, I just found it to be a bit one-note and the vocals were hit-or-miss. But I'm a sucker for some 2000's pop worship, and the hooks were solid. 3.5, and I'm curious to see what else they do in their career.

BEST SONGS: 300 Dreams/Obvious
