TREEMAN: BORN AGAIN
Greetings. This is your best pal (the former) Treeman. I've grown recently and have decided that I needed a more mature and complex online persona to complement that. I'll write some reviews, good ones. Also I will be on staff soon just to let you all know. Please take the time to gaze upon my 2015 records thus far. AS ALWAYS, list is digs. Also I've gotta say to whoever writes this site, the new list publishing format is good. Thanks. Good. Word. |
1 | | Gucci Mane Brick Factory 3
3.2/5 P solid mixtape here. Down on that, Lost my plug both go hard. Unfortunately the song with Lil B wasn't as good as I hoped it would be but its still #rare. |
2 | | Detroit Swindle Punch Drunk EP
3.7/5 Some swift-moving Detroit-y as fuck techno with tons of soul. It'll get yr ass moving. |
3 | | Gucci Mane Breakfast
ALSO: Lunch, Dinner, Desert 3.5/5 These are all P good, P standard Gucci fare, which, of course, is absolutely no problem. These also have most likely the best album artwork of the year. See Breakfast for example. |
4 | | Modest Mouse Strangers to Ourselves
3/5 This rating is completely arbitrary because to be honest I didn't listen to it. Yet? Who knows. |
5 | | Jeff Rosenstock We Cool?
4/5 This album makes me feel like I did back in 7th grade just with more alcohol and weed and (kind of) adult things. The angst is real |
6 | | Chief Keef Sorry 4 The Weight
3.8/5 It's okay, bud. Himalayas goes extra hard. |
7 | | Various Artists Dirtybird 10
4.2/5 Dirtybird 10 year anniversary compilation album. Obviously this shit makes the booty work V good. This also serves as the blanket rating for all Dirtybird releases this year because they have almost all been straight fire and there are too many I liked to put down here. |
8 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
4.5/5 Almost obligatory, but it is really, really good and really, really important. |
9 | | Earl Sweatshirt I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside: An Album By Earl Sweatshirt
3.5/5 I've always been kind of into Earl and this didn't make me any more into Earl but he is still very lyrically competent. I also mostly just listen to trap shit and drill shit so who even cares what I think. |
10 | | Action Bronson Mr. Wonderful
3.8/5 I thought this was P dope. Lots of catchy songs on it n' shit and Bronson still spits. |
11 | | All Time Low Future Hearts
2/5 They are making it harder than it already is to be a 20 year old male fan with an entire American year's worth of beard growth. |
13 | | Laura Marling Short Movie
3.2/5 It wasn't bad by any means, I just don't really have an opinion one way or the other so a 3.2 seemed indifferent enough. |
14 | | Young Thug Barter 6
3/5 I really wanted to dig this more than I did cause I love Thugger but I only listened to it once and didn't really feel the need to do so again. |
15 | | Jack U Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack U
2.5/5 hahahahahahahahahahah
honestly this whole thing sounds so silly. This is literally EXACTLY what you would expect a Sonny/Diplo collar to sound like. |
16 | | Skinny Lister Down On Deptford Broadway
3.7/5 This band passes around a flagon of grog at their shows. No other information is necessary. |
17 | | The Mountain Goats Beat the Champ
4/5 Dam look at that another solid addition to John's literally endless catalog, Thank you based Darnielle |
18 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Dark Bird Is Home
4/5 Dam another really solid folk release. As much as I love Kris' simple voice+guitar mastery, I think Dark Bird is a really necessary and logical next step for him. Eagerly awaiting the next one. |
19 | | The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band So Delicious
4.1/5 I really really really really like this album. This man plays the slide so dam good and these songs are so dam funny and so dam real. |
20 | | William Elliott Whitmore Radium Death
4.17/5 This is my current favorite of the year, probably tryna review it soon. Whitmore added band to back him up but did not lose a single shred of his sincerity or rawness. |
21 | | The Story So Far The Story So Far
3.6/5 P good still not as good as Under Soil and Dirt but like what are you going to do |
