A lot of this fell flat for me. A jazzy, dancy post-punk album has to have some quality melodies to really excel, IMO. It has the right vibe, and didn't go anywhere. Then I got whiplash at the end of the album because I really loved "Song for America," and hated "Bay of Pigs" enough to skip the last half of it. And that was that.

I got goosebumps a handful of times, loved every minute, and then it ended abruptly at a 16-minute runtime. What. The. Fuck. I need more.

Right out of the gate, we were off to a bad start, because this album interrupted the best thing I've heard since #18. But I tried to get over that, and listen properly. Okay, yeah. A nice, refreshing sound. At first. Then it seemed repetitious and was much like trying to replace a hearty lunch with a tall glass of milk. And then the hunger grew while the milk became warm, and I had to choke down the last bit.

The fast pace and dragging vocals complement each other well, and the 80's-like electronic soundscapes flesh out the album well, in a very budgiecore way.

There's nothing really bad about it, but I have a very difficult time finding anything objectively superior about the album, as to explain why it's rated so highly. It's just not very good. It's music for the sake of making music, in a typical rock way. It sort of blends some post-rock into post-punk, which should make it more interesting, but nah.

This one's really hard to rate... very hit-and-miss. Some of the songs are pretty great, some of the lyrics are cringy. Her annunciation/rapping isn't the best on all the songs, but her singing is on point. I think we're going to have to do some math for this one. 3.5 + 3.0 + 2.5 + 4.0 + 3.5 + 4.0 + 2.5 + 4.5 = 27 || 27 / 8 = 3.4375

I think I like the first half of this split with Al Murky more, but The Ruined Beverages half was pretty decent too. The overall dark, sinister mood blends from one band to the other well, but the rhythm really changes things up, even from the third to fourth song. I don't mind it, it keeps things interesting. The only thing I don't really care for on this album is the (snare?) drum on the last song. It's mixed pretty loud and drowns out a lot of the music.

I like Bob Dylan's voice a lot more on this album than from what I've heard on his older stuff. There's a lot less of that moaning and swaying. This album talks a lot about all the cool shit Bob's done in his life that makes it less of a tragedy that he's old now. His forced rhyming is actually pretty neat and intellectually pleasing. I kind of like this, but probably not enough to listen to it again... but I wouldn't be against it either.

The lyrics in content/bedtime are really fun... frequent letdown is pretty sweet. IDK, this album makes me want more when I stop listening and want to stop when I start.

Post-hardcore from '94? Good grief. Pretty legit songs. I recognize "Savory" from a Deftones cover. If I'm being honest, I don't really like their sound nearly as much as I like the songs themselves. I don't think it has aged well. Feels dry. Some of the songs themselves are really good, though, and I like how the singer harmonizes.

My favorite Oberst since Wide Awake. Impeccable songwriting on this fucker. I really like the folky orchestral vibe. It doesn't even feel pretentious, which is a miracle for Oberst. Some of these melodies rely really heavily on the stringed instruments in the orchestra, just used like any other band would use synth. It gives it a really full sound. Other songs have surprising instrument choices that later on feel necessary to get that desired effect. Yeah I like this a lot. Such smart timeless tunes.

God damn this album is pretentious. Some of the songs are pretty decent, but a lot of it is a bit too avant-garde for me, in a jarring way. I can appreciate the experimental aspects of its unique sounds, but it really isn't up my alley. The song "Alright" slaps some serious cheeks, though.

This album runs the full gamut of metalcore riffage. Monstrous technical riffs, droning atmospheric notes, open 0-0-0 deathcore rhythmic strumming.. It has it all. The vocals shouldn't be overlooked, though. The vocalist has quality singing and supreme growls. First listen was outstanding, but we'll see how the replay value fairs.

The electronic use of sounds is at the forefront here, giving it a much less personal feel, but the melodies behind the occasional autotune were quite lovely.

This feels kind of like an EP, because so much of this is interlude between the really fantastic songs. The interlude feel to this album doesn't really add to the music for me, just delays the enjoyment. I realize the point of the album is to have a brooding, unnerving feel, sandwiching the lulling choruses, but I would have to simultaneously be in two different moods to enjoy both portions of it. Would have been a 4.5 if slimmed down, I think.

I would put it somewhere in the middle between The Trail Of Dead and Bauhaus. These songs are all killer. I doubt too many people will be disappointed with this release.

This wasn't even worth my time to search for them on Google. Bandcamp delivered the goods, but it was barely good. It's an epic journey of an album, but somehow it takes me to all the boring places. It's just lacking a lot of substance, in exchange for its vast experimentation.

I wasn't sure about this until about halfway through the album. I got used to the repetitive nature of the djenty guitar riffs enough to hear the differences that are actually present. I really love how the album plays as one long song, but they split it up into 13 song titles for clarity. Okay, now that I think about this more, I'm not sure if the songs kept getting better toward the back half of the album, or if I just started enjoying the band a lot more halfway through. Will have to listen again.
