Apparently the Line Fire was mostly fueled -- or at least spread -- by a big heatwave, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case |

09.08.24 | This is really sad, man. Here in Brazil, almost the whole country is on fire but specially the Amazon forest and Pantanal. It has been our driest and hottest winter ever. Most of the fires are from ranchers and squatters burning whole forests to the ground, in a way that we have never seen before, to expand areas for soybean plantations, cattle, and gold mining, the hotness and dryness helps to spread the fires and make it difficult to control. You can't believe how depressed, furious and frustrated the impotence to do anything to help makes me feel. Our country is moved by ignorance, power, greed, corruption on a systemic level that is really hard to deal with. The whole country is covered by smoke. It's been a whole month we haven't seen the sky proper, sun is all red up. Rivers on the Amazon are turning to literally dunes. The Amazon forest is responsible to regulating the climate and rain regimes in the south where I live. |

09.08.24 | Quick update: the fire has now grown to over 17,000 acres and still has 0% containment. Thankfully no structures have been destroyed yet, but apparently the extreme heat and thunderstorms are spreading the fire further and further. Shit's getting crazy |

09.10.24 | Thanks Yak and Diva. My right hand after about 100 hours has started to heal good. Yesterday it was still open and obv still is but it is now starting to look like each side is connecting. Have to keep my thumb and pointing finger taped together or it feels like it is ripping. Small to no pain tho.
My lil brother evacuated Santa Cruz only to have to evacuate again where he was. He is allowed back to Santa Cruz but UC wants to break his lease for free because the dorms are turning into some kind of homeless shelter. He bought a plane ticket for the 23rd to come back home and move into my parents house. |
