Listening to whole discogs vs highlights only

What do you think is more important, particularly with respect to artists who have albums you rate really high: Listening to an artist's entire discography, or just getting into their most acclaimed albums and leaving it at that? How do you decide which bands are worth taking the full discog dive for vs which bands you just check an album or two and leave it at that?
Molten Young Lovers

Similarly, when you get into a new artist, do you tend to start at the beginning and go in order, or do you start with their most popular stuff and jump around randomly?
