| kalk's 2018
This list features the albums from 2018 I listened to in 2018.
Notice that I wasn't into being up to date with all these releases last year, I was more into checking the back catalogues of the bands I was already into, so this list is rather short. | 10 | | Architects Holy Hell
I listened to this once and never came back. It was enough with AOGHAU, please move on from this sound.
2.5 to 3/5 | 9 | | Rabbit Junk Rabbit Junk Will Die
A little too generic imo. Just not that engaging, but fun from time to time.
3/5 | 8 | | Muse Simulation Theory
Muse released their most honest and least forced album since ... yea, quite some years. I'm very happy with this. Not perfect at all, but Break It To Me fucks.
3.5/5 | 7 | | TesseracT Sonder
This would have been a great EP if the opener and the double track were cut from this. Feels a little gneric at times, but the good songs are simply great.
3.5/5 | 6 | | Between the Buried and Me Automata I
Not as engaging as the second half.
3.5/5 | 5 | | Plini Sunhead
Seems like Plini is making some slight progress with this.
4/5 | 4 | | Between the Buried and Me Automata II
Definetly the better half of something that should not have been devided in two halves. A little too sterile for a higher rating, but The Proverbial Bellow fucking slays.
4/5 | 3 | | Heisskalt Idylle
And interesting reinvention of Heisskalt's sound. Not as focused as their previous two albums, but not worse by any means. My ranking would be: Vom Wissen und Wollen > Idylle > Vom Stehen und Fallen.
4/5 | 2 | | Alligatoah Schlaftabletten, Rotwein V
I like to think about Alligatoah more as a pop musician than a rapper, because he does everything from playing guitar over singing to rapping. This is incredibly consistent and may not be a surprising release, but that really doesn't matter if it's of this quality.
4 to 4.5/5 | 1 | | Haken Vector
My first Haken album. I wasn't sure at first, because of the rather sterile vocal production, but every song on this slays. The short runtime helps a lot, nothing here is overstaying its welcome. The last song isn't the best closer, but that's really all I can complain about.

01.14.19 | There is a lot of red, pink and purple on this. Love it. | Scheumke
01.14.19 | Nice list! A definite lack of The Ocean though ;), but we have a couple in common (1,4 and 5 are in my top 20 for sure) | kalkwiese
01.14.19 | Thanks man. I never listened to The Ocean, but I noticed their record was recieved pretty well. Maybe I'll check that one in the nearer future, who knows? :) | OldCrime
01.14.19 | Definitely check the other Haken albums | kalkwiese
01.14.19 | Yea, I will do this. I already know Affinity a fair bit, but it's not one of their most popular records and I get why. I hope their other stuff is more engaging than Affinity | Scheumke
01.14.19 | I warmed up to Affinity quite a bit over time. Def. give The Mountain and Visions a listen though, excellent records both! | OldCrime
01.15.19 | Yeah Affinity took a bit of time to click. Vector is my least favorite atm. |
