| Overlooked 2016 Gems
pls listen to these | 1 | | Medevil Conductor of Storms
A darky, thrashy traditional metal record with "Fear of the Dark"-era Bruce Dickinson on vocals. Best debut album of the year; "An Empty Glass and "The Angel of Rain" are highlights. | 2 | | Rimfrost Rimfrost
It's Immortal worship, but it's Immortal worship done just about perfectly. | 3 | | Spellcaster Night Hides the World
Sick traditional/power metal with tight basslines. The bookends, "Aria" and "Prophecy," are fanatstic. | 4 | | Colosso Obnoxious
Groovy, immediate melodeath. The first track in particular is superb. | 5 | | King Goat Conduit
Probably my second favorite debut album of the year; an eclectic doom-ish sound with a unique vocalist and excellent songwriting. | 6 | | Sunburst Fragments of Creation
Catchy, aggressive power metal with some awesome choruses and melodies. | 7 | | Cybernetic Witch Cult Spaceous Cretaceous
This one is really weird, but it's a hell of a good time. Surprisingly solid songwriting, instrumentation, and vocals. Stoner rock fans will find a lot to like here. | 8 | | Mandroid Echostar Coral Throne
2016 has been a superb year for post-hardcore, but one of the year's very best didn't garner much attention at all. There are some killer melodies on this thing, most notably on "Violet Skies" and Sacred Fire, some of my favorite songs of the year. Sounds a lot like a heavier Coheed, mainly due to the vocalist. | 9 | | Ondt Blod Finnmark
This one is just some badass, accesible foreign hardcore. Good gym music, good ass-kicking music. | |

10.01.16 | @grindcorecore Yes, 100%
@Futures I think most people just call it "heavy metal" or "traditional metal," but for whatever reason I've gotten into the habit of referring to it as NWOBHM. And thanks for the rec, will check ASAP |
