03.22.15 | Mainstream modern rock has been dead for a while. If we live in a world where Bastille and AWOLNATION are "rock" bands, then either the definition of rock music has changed drastically or it simply means nothing anymore.
Underground or 'non-mainstream' rock has been as alive as ever, and better for that matter. |

03.22.15 | it's virtually impossible to say with actual fairness that x genre is better than y genre or that x genre is dead or anything like that because of the huge wealth of completely under-the-radar music that exists. but I think we can say with fairness that modern mainstream rock is definitely declining, if it still exists. (personally I think that's a good thing since it gives more room to the masses of other genres that definitely deserve their time to shine after the 30+ years rock had) |

03.22.15 | I don't get why people talk sh*t about Avolnation, Sail is cathy is f*ck. Also using synth in rock is no news even The Doors used it in their songs. |
TheSonomaDude
03.22.15 | It isn't rock though, don't get how anyone could call it rock. |

03.22.15 | "Classic" rock has long been dead, but it has branched off into so many better directions and subgenres that it doesn't matter. |

03.22.15 | In terms of rock on the mainstream topping charts, rock has not been too good. Rock is not dead, that is stupid to say otherwise. |
ChoccyPhilly
03.23.15 | Shitty question but anyway.
fewer boundaries to break, what do you expect?
most people I know who say this are living in the past and want another nirvana and won't accept anything else but will call anything that sounds like them a copycat
making music is more accessible than ever before, so more music and more shit to filter through |
beefshoes
03.23.15 | Rock is far from dead, but mainstream rock (generally) has been corporatized and safe as fuck for close to twenty years. Metal is pretty much the same way now too, but there are tons of amazing underground scenes. I can't really say the same for rock, but that's just my taste. Trying to make a philosophical argument for the death of [x] genre is stupid and pointless. |
