| Dream Theater Ranked
More like Dream Theater Wanked amirite? Well, this is my list and to be fair a band with this much longevity, exposé and lengthy material, they are decently halfway consistent. Remove your two least favorite tracks from each of their albums and you'll see what I mean. Band sits extremely comfortably in the 3.5 spectrum mostly, and usually what is worse is pretty bad, and what is good, is pretty darn good. | 1 | | Dream Theater Images and Words
Strong and endearing. Encapsulates the best of their compositions in a palatable form. | 2 | | Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Great | 3 | | Dream Theater When Dream and Day Unite
Suitably epic imo. | 4 | | Dream Theater Awake
I'm really not big on the 4 track run from Voices to Lie, but it's a fan favorite for most . This begins my 3.5's. | 5 | | Dream Theater Score
Fun and some good song picks make this a worthwhile venture. | 6 | | Dream Theater Systematic Chaos
Personal Choice. I could put this over Awake if you'd let me, but it did take some time to get there. | 7 | | Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
I almost wanted to put Dramatic Turn above this. I still might. | 8 | | Dream Theater A Dramatic Turn of Events
Highly enjoyable for me, and I think it does well in showcasing some of the band's real strengths. I guess it's not for everyone though. | 9 | | Dream Theater Train of Thought
Heavy, middle of the road riff driver. I always wanted to like this more than I did, but what I do like (and forgetting the awkward stuff) is rather strong. As I Am, This Dying Soul, and Stream of Consciousness is what holds the weight of this in my opinion. | 10 | | Dream Theater Distance Over Time
Enjoyable, and at times replayable, and At Wit's End is a recent DT classic. | 11 | | Dream Theater Octavarium
Used to love this for the hits, but it isn't very consistent outside being a standard collection of hit or miss songs. Last of the 3.5's, though mileage can vary. | 12 | | Dream Theater A View From The Top Of The World
[We'll have to wait and see where this lands].
10/22 - First impression so far places it here, but it could very well move up. 1 listen doesn't really count. | 13 | | Dream Theater Black Clouds and Silver Linings
Really not a fan, but this does have slightly better instrumentation than those below it. | 14 | | Dream Theater Dream Theater
Incredibly... unmemorable? | 15 | | Dream Theater Falling into Infinity
Didn't really enjoy this and idk, the whole thing just put me off in a way where I skipped it as part of my relistens for this list. | 16 | | Dream Theater The Astonishing
I was initially going to split this in the ranking between Act One and Act Two, but... no, it's just going to get judged as one. | |

09.16.21 | SputFact: I have no Dream Theater album rating over a four. Though, I have bouts of maybe pushing any of the top three up now and then. | CottonSalad
09.16.21 | A Change of Seasons EP is worth a spot - my DT phase wasn't huge, but Images ended up being a high school staple. | Assemblage
09.16.21 | Yeah, for sure. I will have to go back and revisit Change of Seasons, as it is definitely the one I am least familiar with. I'd be curious where it could end up amidst their full lengths. | Space Jester
09.16.21 | Def one of the better DT lists I’ve seen | Sinternet
09.16.21 | all of them suck! | parksungjoon
09.16.21 | probably the most based dt list | Assemblage
09.16.21 | Thanks Jester, most of the ones I've ended up seeing were pretty wonk and twisted lol. Especially some of the more recent. I looked at some super old lists from '07 and it's funny seeing how favorited this band was here then. Just like how I remember lol. | Assemblage
09.16.21 | parksung: impossible. | parksungjoon
09.16.21 | metro 2 outside the top five and "I have no Dream Theater album rating over a four"
is enough to qualify for most based
excited to see some seething fanboys | CottonSalad
09.16.21 | lol true | Assemblage
09.16.21 | I guess I must have had a different interpretation of based then, lol. But oh well, no harm no foul, I just don't see the necessitated requirement for Metropolis because the story doesn't really do it for me, and musically I feel like it's only half there. Six Degrees is much more fundamental in that aspect. | TheOrgazoid
09.16.21 | It's nice to see someone lukewarm on Metropolis, but seeing Systematic Chaos above it makes me twitch. | JDubb
09.16.21 | 2 is superb - listened to that today. Albums from Train of Thought on are my favs. Most early albums are too dated in sound for me. | Shemson
09.16.21 | Scenes from a Memory has always been my favourite by a long long way | LelandAB
09.16.21 | Octavarium is top 6 DT for the title track alone. Systematic Chaos needs to go below Black Clouds. | el_newg
09.17.21 | pretty crazy ranking | Assemblage
09.17.21 | In the Presence of Enemies Pt. 1 and 2 together is extremely satisfying. It isn't perfect, but damn near everytime Part Two reverts into the very beginning intro bit, it gets me. I was also always privy on the sloth pace buildup in The Ministry of Lost Souls; and The Dark Eternal Night and to an extent Constant Motion are really fun songs. I can vibe with the majority of the album and I like the overall aesthetic of it, but when it came out it really had to win me over because I was disappointed in most of it except for the few extreme highs that it reached. Something like A Dramatic Turn of Events actually does the feel and flow of Systematic Chaos a whole lot smoother, but I have grown to really like the arrangement of SC over time. | Assemblage
09.17.21 | I didn't get to revisit the Octavarium t/t before my posting, but it's basically the next thing I was going to listen to. I will report back if it has swayed me over in a way to adjust the list, always a possibility.
Black Clouds is just a no-go for me. I really don't know why but everytime I've given it a listen I just want to change it pretty quickly. I always stick it out though and I'm left with just a weird taste in my mouth after it. But I do expect many to have their own DT favorites that spans the whole gamut really, and to be honest, I still feel like they have potential to do something really great again and have plenty of room to explore more ideas because it doesn't feel like their discography yet is complete. | JohnnyoftheWell
09.17.21 | "really not big on the 4 track run from Voices to Lie"
weird af take. Awake is p much the only DT I'd jam in full these days ngl | Divaman
09.17.21 | They have a new one coming in late October. | SitarHero
09.17.21 | Ha! Anyone else remember when Dream Theater rankings were a rite of passage on Sput? | Meridiu5
09.17.21 | props for 2. change of seasons is top 4 too don't sleep on it. | parksungjoon
10.13.21 | 3 is top 3 maybe |
