09.01.21 | If you add up the conglomerate score it's a 47/60 or a 78.3333. But let's be real, it's better than that. | FabiusPictor202
09.01.21 | have to disagree, boring, pedantic, and unconvincing album, also Melon gave this a 4/10 so I am obligated to hate it | Assemblage
09.01.21 | I can understand that if you are not a big listener of the band. Is there any of their stuff you like? | FabiusPictor202
09.02.21 | Actually yeah everything up till automata, and in all seriousness I found myself agreeing with most of the things Whitethony Wallstano said in his review, mostly about its ultimate pointlessness | Assemblage
09.02.21 | Yeah I saw Banthany Bantano's review earlier, and I can understand 80% of the criticisms he had and I can see how a majority of them are valid, from the point of view of an outsider looking in, and not letting one's personal enjoyment of the band/music interfere with the critiques that otherwise are standardly accepted as a fan. I didn't agree with all of it though, and as usual there's some poorly placed takes that make it seem like it's more important to take a jab at the music/creators than to provide a constructive review but that's his style and trend for a lot of stuff.
I'm pretty against the grain on Coma, and I wasn't deeply interested in Automata. I can imagine a different album/take on the Colors theme than what they did for "II" here , but all in all I can't truly say they missed the mark, or backtracked negatively with this release. I do think it's a wholly worthy addition, and there is plenty more I find enjoyable than the past two releases, whether it be in the structure, the more memorable passages, or the overall thematic resonances of it. It is their closest material to Colors, since Colors imo, even though there are moments that stray far from it. I think any rating on here from a 3.5 (or even 3.0) to a 5 is reasonable depending on where you find yourself on the BTBAM meter. | Veldin
09.02.21 | Turbulent so high :o Am I sleeping on that track? | Assemblage
09.02.21 | That one particularly hit me on a deeper personal connection. But what I find about it objectively, is that I don't think they've done a song really like that, which embodies something of a concept akin to turbulence so conceptually and keep it to a single track. Musically, the rhythm jostles just enough underneath, and Tommy's vocals especially on the chorus really balances the whole thing (as if it were the two wings on a plane) and the music is this sort of rumbling vessel underneath.
I also see it as like a successor to Ants of the Sky, being as how Tommy wrote that in an airport I believe, waiting for a flight. I imagine it's sort of continuous from that, except now the flight is in the air and he's commenting on the turbulence (whether it be of life, or his career, etc).
I think it's one of their most well composed songs because (of the rare) clear concept and identity that it showcases. No real gimmicks, just a strong *song*, holding itself up. For some reason I find it to be one of the most mature sounding things they've written. | Veldin
09.02.21 | Thanks for yr insight. I’ll definitely give it a more focused listen soon. Been jamming this on and off past week | Assemblage
09.02.21 | If it ends up hitting you the same way, come back and let me know! |
