Rain Temple

2.9/5
Ambient / Downtempo

I don't remember too much of this, that seems to be the case with me and a lot of ambient-esque stuff, but I remember I enjoyed the rainy feel of the record a lot. But that's most of my enjoyment of this, aside from some nice synthscapes. Some tracks just bore me, and I have the bad luck of finding the longer ones to be the boring ones.

9Glass Animals
How To Be A Human Being

3.95/5
Indie Pop

It's sort of fallen out of my listening rotation as of late, but whenever I do return to this I'm still 100% in love with it. The production is consistently fun and colorful, the hooks on a lot of the tracks are absolutely killer, and "Season 2 Episode 3" is still a contender for pop song of the year. Possibly the pop record of the year.

flood network

3.35/5
Indie Pop / Glitch Pop

First of all, congrats on 7.8 from Pitchfork fellow (former) sputter! There are some really great, mind-bending ideas on 'Flood Network'; the texture and soundplay is definitely the best thing about the record. Not all the songs blow me away when it comes to the strength of the writing, and sometimes the vocals are a bit too amateur for my taste, but I'd say it's worth a listen for people who are intrigued by the genre tags, or just want to support a sput project.
11Thao And The Get Down Stay Down
A Man Alive

art rock / singer-songwriter

quite interesting
12Fort Romeau
Secrets & Lies

nu-disco / house

decent
13Kishi Bashi
Sonderlust

3.9/5
Indie Pop / Baroque Pop

It isn't 'Lighght'. It was probably never going to be another 'Lighght', because few things are. But this isn't trying to be that. The influence '70s pop music has on this record is strong, but Kishi Bashi's trademark charm is still there. The highlights on this record actually do measure up to the high points of his predecessor, which in itself is a near impossible task.

18Jacob Collier
In My Room

3.7/5
Jazz Fusion / Pop / Kitchen Sink-core

I probably respect this album more than anything. This guy is only 22, and he's probably gained more skills than I will ever even dream of obtaining. There's some real texture and depth to these songs, and even if his self-harmonization can grow old after nearly an hour, it's an album that deserves more recognition and not to be judged based on the fact that the person behind the music happens to be a Youtuber. Believe me, Collier is a musician before a Youtuber, and the proof is on 'In My Room'.
