| Favorite Black Metal Albums + Melodic Metal Albums
I have only listened to and enjoyed black metal for a short time but have found a few great albums that will always be important to me and are among the most enjoyable music experiences I have ever had. The list isn't in much of a specific order but number 1 is legendary! I love the pure emotion that black metal conveys and I much prefer the melodic kind. The second half of the list is not black metal but melodic metal I love. I tried to only put music of a certain more classical or folk vibe or the list would have gotten too broad style wise. Music Recommendations very welcome! | 1 | | Dystopia Na! Dweller on the Threshold
Experimental while still being completely serious. More doom and alt metal than black metal in instrumentation. Very versatile. Music that doesn't really riff but focuses on flowing harmonies and emotion. Extremely emotional screams that sound less like evil and menacing and more like someone just breaking down and spilling their heart out. | 2 | | Oubliette (USA) Apparitions
Medieval but not Folky. Melodic but still grimy. | 3 | | Caladan Brood Echoes Of Battle
So enchanting and epic and beautiful and a bit hilarious. Every track has a different appeal to it and they are all great. Love the clean vocals and the flute and everything really! | 4 | | Alcest Ecailles De Lune
Like as melodic as it gets | 5 | | Obsequiae Aria of Vernal Tombs
Folky Medieval with great guitar melodies, bass work, and acoustic interludes. Nice chimey guitar tone. Really the whole package for what it is. | 6 | | Insomnium Shadows of the Dying Sun | 7 | | Omnium Gatherum The Redshift | 8 | | Omnium Gatherum New World Shadows | 9 | | Omnium Gatherum Beyond
Album cover perfectly conveys the sound. Vocals this brutal over music this pretty never gets old. | 10 | | Ne Obliviscaris Citadel | 11 | | Wilderun Sleep at the Edge of the Earth
Epic. Hands down my fav folk metal album. | 12 | | Equilibrium Erdentempel
Catchy and cheeky and epic and sometimes hilariously awesome | |

08.11.15 | Have you tried Summoning? | zaruyache
08.11.15 | try the new Mesarthim if you like Caladan Brood/Summoning. Also Equilibrium's Sagas if you haven't jammed that yet, since it's their best. | Dmax28
