02.01.23 | It doesn’t need to be an actual 1 hit wonder I don’t think |
ArsMoriendi
02.01.23 | If it does I need to repick my song lol
Also the 60s/70s had plenty of rock ones right? |
fogza
02.01.23 | 1. A Bunny's Caravan: Resolving the Static - I'm getting total midness from this. 2.9 |
Pangea
02.01.23 | yeah it doesn't need to be a one-wonder in the hit song sense. It can also be a band/artist with only 1 album or 1 acclaimed album. Anything with only a short amount of (relative) fame.
i like liberal interpretations of themes anyway so you can also give your take on a one hit wonder idea |

02.02.23 | LBC Crew - Beware of my Crew
Album: Technically it's on the soundtrack to A Thin Line Between Love and Hate but you can just go with their album Haven't You Heard
https://youtu.be/l8TGGwuqqvM
The LBC Crew were Snoop Dogg's proteges in the Death Row days but none of them slacked on the mic. Bad Azz, Techniec, Tray Deee and Lil C Style all brought unique and strong flavors to the group which should've gone on to make multiple records, but their sole album only came out 15 years after recording due to Lil C Style destroying the tape and Death Row falling apart. Somehow they found a backup of it, I'm assuming, and put it out. This was their only single but it stands as a west coast classic. |
Pangea
02.02.23 | 2. Wordplay - this is nice, but it does get little repetitive and it's somewhat uneventful. Good vibes though. 3.2 |

02.03.23 | 1. Resolving the Static – I feel depressed. Partly because of this song. It could’ve been a bit shorter imo – 3.0
2. Wordplay – Did she say “So park that ass like your-ass-sick/Jurassic”? That line alone deserves a good rating – 3.5
3. Warm Leatherette – Creepy indeed![2] The lyrics aren’t bad. There’s just too much “Warm Leatherette” and making love with an almost dead person(?) – 3.0 |

02.07.23 | 7. Harlem Shakes: Radio Orlando - Great song, shifts through the changeups effortlessly and they all make sense. I was concerned that the singer would descend into conoroberstcore but thankfully he's got his own thing going which was quite lovely. Just wonderful really. 4 |

02.12.23 | Yeah I know I'm being overdramatic I just want people to participate in SOTD and feel welcome. But I also want to give my big mouth opinions, it's a quandary.
Anyway, Passage was a personal anathema, musical theatre vibes mixed with thin, unappealing guitar and those weird flashy drums. Didn't like the music box intro, just every aesthetic or choice grates for me. 1.5 |
fogza
02.12.23 | 12. The Subways: Rock and roll queen -Ah the early aughts garage rock revival. This not as annoying as Jet or the Vines, but doesn't reach the heights of other acts or singles from this period. Sticks in your head though. 3 |
fogza
02.13.23 | 13. Van Dik Hout: Stil in mij - My ear isn't 100% attuned to the Dutch but it's fun to try and figure out what he's saying. Basic little rock song, not bad, but not something I'd return to. 3.1 |
dedex
02.13.23 | 9. Beware of my crew - YouTube top comment: "This Hits Harder Than My Dad's Belt" 💀 Beat is kinda annoying after a while but the performances are quite good. 3.1
10. Passage - this would have made jizz lil dedex, but grumpy ol' dedex is kinda frowning. 2.4
11. Plastic Love - i found a 5mins long version on Spotify which was a perfect amount of time for a very cool City Pop bop. 3.9
12. Rock & Roll Queen - yoooo FIFA STREET 2!!! Listened to that shit all day long while playing samba with Ronaldinho. kinda classic ngl, but also kinda lame. 3.8
13. Stil in mij - very cool instrumental! My Flemish-ready ear is always a bit sitting on the edge when listening to OG Dutch, but this was cool. 3.4 |
Pangea
02.13.23 | 7. Radio Orlando - I do dig the dynamics, but felt it was missing something else a bit. Still cool stuff though!. 3.5
8. Get Down Saturday Night - decent jam, but agree with fogza. 3.0

02.13.23 | 10. Passage - definitely pretty corny, but there is some talent on display and it isn't as obnoxious as some of it's ilk. 3.2
11. Plastic Love - absolute banger. 4.5
12. Rock and Roll Queen - very mid rock song tbh. 2.5 |
Vercetti
02.13.23 | 6. I like… – A bit boring, but okay. Gets +0.5 for wet skin – 3.5
7. Radio Orlando – Starts kind of boring, then gets wilder, ends good – 3.5
8. Get Down Saturday Night – Funky 80s stuff. I can imagine someone making a nice GTA Vice City music video for this and that’s always a good thing – 3.5
9. Beware of My Crew – Funky 90s stuff I can imagine someone making a nice GTA San Andreas music video for this. In all honesty though: Why would I listen to this when Dr Dre produced a bunch of better songs that sound pretty similar? – 3.0
10. Passage – I like some of the weirdness, but not all of it - 3.0
|
fogza
02.14.23 | 14. Saya Gray: SADNESS RESIDUE (ERASER ROOM) - Swelling picking fields falling away into big empties. It's a very beautiful song, the last passage is a little lame but not a deal breaker. 3.9

02.14.23 | 14. SADNESS RESIDUE (ERASER ROOM) - def cool and all but doesn't make me go *wah*. 3.3 |
fogza
02.15.23 | 15. Another sunny day: You should all be murdered - Ok so I don't like the Smiths all that much, particularly because I think Morrissey is shit. So a Smiths clone band, maybe not my favourite. Subtract the rowwwwnd as fuck mopey sock in mouth singing and the bad lyrics, and this wouldn't be too bad. 2.5 |

02.16.23 | Ok my second rec is up today, it's a really good song off a really good album that I still listen to 20+ years after hearing it. About 15 comments up. |

I do think we need quite a few more songs so third tracks are welcome. I do hope we get some more people to send stuff in though |
fogza
02.17.23 | 17. Deee-Lite: Groove is in the Heart - Ok, a few things. Is swanee whistle acceptable outside of a comedy act? Is the delivery of that "I wouldn't ask for another?" line one of the most grating mainstream moments of the 90's? Does this song unfortunately remind me of Smashmouth's seminal single "Walkin' on the sun"? You can see where I'm going with this. 2.4 |
Pangea
02.17.23 | 14. Sadnass residue - nice and cool, but never really takes off. 3.3

02.18.23 | 18. Herman Szobel: Transcendal Floss - Sounds like 70's film music. I'm not really qualified to rate this, so I'm just gonna 3 it out of respect to Pan.
Edit: True feelings,I would watch more 70's movies if they didn't have soundtracks which are somewhat like this, just such an unpleasant sound and so inward. 2 final score |

16. I Loved the Way - Lovely stuff. 3.6
18. Transcendental Floss - Adam Neely recently released a video titled "The Nintendo-ification of jazz", and this is an example of jazz doing that before Nintendo even was a thing. woo! 3.4
19. Freightliner - this was cool but not much more than that for me. 3.1
20. Philosophy of the world - classic! and as expertly conceived as Trout Mask Replica. 2.5 |

02.21.23 | 21. Silversun Pickups: Lazy eye - This band appears to have a very long career, so I don't really understand? I had a friend who loved this band, but, I dunno, I could never get enthusiastic. If you ignore the Pumpkins worship it's ok I guess, sounds nice. I don't think it ever really gets anywhere. 3.1
22. A-ha: Take on me - Ok, so this does not fit the theme in any meaningful way lol, phero hijinks. How do I score essentially one of the best pop singles of all time? I'll go with it's not a one hit wonder and give it a 2.5, but in a vacuum this would be a 5. |

02.22.23 | The Geraldine Fibbers - Lilybelle (off Lost somewhere between the Earth and my home)
The Fibbers released two albums in the 90's but never really became big or found their audience while active. Carla Bozulich is still around, making very challenging albums. In my dreams this band would reunite because they make really good music.
