12.23.24 | Yes, oisin. I find indie rock gay, too. it'd be extremely rare to listen to an indie rock band I personally dig lately. You guys remember The Strokes, Bloc Party, Foals or Car Seat Headrest? Well, I don't listen to them anymore. |

12.23.24 | honestly the dude made really good content from 2018-2020 or so. also did a lot of really great podcasting, but it became increasingly clear around the past 2-3 years he was bored/burnt out/trying to shotgun as much views as possible regurgitating wikipedia articles. also became increasingly clear the bands he liked/disliked were almost solely based on who he was irl friends with and who came on his podcasts.
he had loads of asinine takes on the actual music (and his politics potentially even worse), and became more and more of a complete edgelord with every passing video... but dude really was one of one at covering the business side of the industry from a metal/hxc lens. some real cognitive dissonance calling himself 'punk rock mba' for that reason but yeah always felt like this dude got wayyy too much hate |
AlexKzillion
12.23.24 | haven't really kept up with him at all in recent years, but some of his best stuff off the top of my head that some might be interested in:
- the original a7x, slipknot, and iirc pantera "how they got big" videos from 2018?... think these ended up getting taken down / re-done at some point but if you can find them they are great. unlike his newer stuff these ones are a lot more researched almost exclusively only cover up to the first 1-2 big albums of these bands careers.
- the video about the dozens of side businesses the members of periphery run outside of the band and how that informs the way periphery operates
- the podcast with johnny christ of a7x in which they exclusively talk about the sounding the seventh trumpet days for an hour+. can't recall if this is on finn's pod or johnny's pod tho
- the podcast with tommy from btbam in which they talk exclusively about the band's conception and the 2002 debut for an hour+. finn is notoriously not a prog guy and he completely refrained from asking tommy about anything btbam did past 2003 lmao.
say what you want about the guy but the dude had a unique/borderline goofy perception on things that was cause for a lot of cool content we will not be getting anywhere else. |
