Also if this is your only source, idk where you saw the number 14, not that it makes a big difference, but seems like you purposely made it seem even worse. In any case, from this article I'm not convinced either way. One thing's for sure, different times, different values, a bunch of drugs and alcohol, and a lot of shit like that happened for sure. From what it sounds like, she definitely wasn't preyed upon as you said, or raped, she was kinda on patrol for whichever celeb showed up as it seems. If it happened, obviously I'm not trying to say what he did wasn't wrong, he could've and should've used better judgment not to fuck a fucking teen being a grown ass man. 08.14.24 | I also hate cancel culture, trust me. But sometimes, it's justified. I view Jimmy Page with the same scrutiny. A lot of artists made missteps concerning sex, sure, but some of them really stood out in their pursuit of sex (with underaged girls). At the very least, it's statutory rape. At the worst, he ruined the mental health and innocence of many, many young girls and women. He and Jimmy were lucky that the internet didn't exist and that morals were very different back then. If they did what they did in today's society, they'd both be serving (lengthy) prison sentences. I have seen from very close by what sexual abuse at a young age can do to a person and it's horrible. I've had a girlfriend that was completely unable to have any sort of intimacy, because she was groped by an older man when she was 12 years old. She would start trembling over her whole body. I can imagine that I have stepped on some toes here, but I cannot separate the artist from the music in this case. |

Of course if a 12 year old girl was groped by an older man that would inevitably leave her scarred and the dude should get the living daylight kicked out of him, followed by something of an actual sentence, but just because it's "statutory rape" in 2024, doesn't mean the girl from the article was raped in an actual real-world sense separate from bureaucratic technicalities. I realise how little sense that may make, but I think you get what I'm getting at. She wanted him. Proactively. I'm in no way condoning paedophilia, and I think that it's probably the worst thing a human can do to another (innocent) human, nor trying to lessen the possible horrible things he may have done in this or other cases (for which there's obviously no proof or confession). I'm just saying it's her word against his, and in a court of law you know how that ends up.
Also about the whole "if they were doing that shit today" thing, I'm inclined to believe they wouldn't do it today because it's viewed completely differently and we as a society have evolved to where we realise shit like that is absolutely unacceptable. I'm not saying he or anyone else from that era didn't know it was unacceptable, I can't say what they had in their heads, but I do know they a bunch of sex-hungry drugged up maniacs, just like the children were probably. Would you condemn historical figures who married (by today's standard) underage children as well? I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm just saying there's always a lot of nuance in these types of conversations and we all want to be as blunt about it and absolutistic as possible, which I believe is the wrong approach. |
