.75 digs||.5 review

75 lists huh...well this one is gonna be a mixed bag of stuff I've been digging and stuff that needs more attention. second half of the list is my top 10 releases of the year so far. enjoy I guess
1IshDARR
Four the Better

Dig #1
Seeing IshDARR live was one of my favorite experiences...the dude headlined at the biggest music festival in the US at his hometown of Milwaukee and absolutely killed it. Had a full band backing him and everything and was the happiest I've ever seen a rapper. Joey Purp and Saba were great as well but man...much love to IshDARR. This dude needs way way more attention on sput and everywhere so check him.
3.7/5
2Macseal
Yeah, No I Know

Dig #2
Some lovely, twinkly emo that sounds like a mellowed out version of Marietta so yeah I adore this album. highly rec to anyone that appreciates emo, definitely refreshing compared to the overly sappy bands that are plaguing the scene right now.
4.0/5
3Nosferatu D2
We're Gonna Walk Around This City...

Dig #3
Some British emo/indie rock that is way too good to only have 7 ratings on sput. These guys are only a 2-piece band but man the drumming on here is so so good and the guitar work is some weird, off-kilter stuff but I love it. Lyrics however are some of the best in the genre. If this doesn't convince ya to check it then idk what will. S/O to Drifter for the rec
4.3/5
4Danger Incorporated
Are You Afraid of the Danger Boys

Dig #4
I was surprised to see that these guys weren't already in the database. Some emo/rap that's been riding the whole new wave sadboi thing ala nothing, nowhere. and others. Production on here is really cool though and even though their bars arent as impressive the songwriting is definitely there. Highly rec
4.1/5
5The Bright Light Social Hour
Space Is Still the Place

Dig #5
At first this seems like a solid psych/dance-rock album but after seeing these guys live (opening for Car Seat Headrest) I was so so impressed with the soundscapes they were able to produce live. Lead singer has some yummy choruses and the production on this thing is incredible. Highly rec to any psych fan
4.3/5
6Morgan Delt
Morgan Delt

Dig #6
Tame Impala worship psych rock with less melody/songwriting skills but still trippy af and good.
4.0/5
7Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
High Visceral Pt. 1

Dig #7
S/O to Jack for this rec. Another psych album (obv) but this is much more based in atmosphere and aussie influences. If anything, check the first and last tracks, both amazing songs
4.3/5
8Black Moth Super Rainbow
Falling Through a Field

Dig #8
Some cool electronic/trip-hop/chillwave shit with a bit of psych thrown in for good measure. Love love love the vocals on this as well. Check if ya dig cool, dark sounding electronic music or if ya need something to smoke to (;
4.2/5
9Denzel Curry
13

Dig #9
Denzel bout to drop one of the hottest rap albums of the year if this EP is any indicator. Opening track is definitely one of the hardest hitting songs of 2017 but that shouldn't come as a surprise to the ULTIMATE.
4.1/5
10Dave Bixby
Ode To Quetzalcoatl

Dig #10
To close out the digs is this hidden gem of an album. Just read Sandwich's review of it for the full story but basically this is some psychedelic influenced christian folk music made in the late 60s. Some of the most beautiful sounding songs I've ever heard...
4.5/5
11narra
narra

AOTY #10
My boys from Marietta have not disappointed with this punk/emo release. Production could be a bit better and one or two songs dont really vibe with me but for the most part this is some damn solid emo and should definitely have more attention.
4.00/5
12Captain, We're Sinking
The King of No Man

AOTY #9
Surprise, surprise...an album that disappointed many, myself a bit included, but honestly after the first couple of tracks this album is super solid. Nowhere near the quality of TFIC but idk maybe after hearing the singles my expectations were greatly lowered, making this listen in full a pleasant one.
4.02/5
13Smidley
Smidley

AOTY #8
Conor Murphy is my hero. Here he sounds either tripped out, drugged out, or bummed out and it's a pretty entertaining albeit sad listen. Hopefully he gets better but man some of these lyrics hit sooo hard. Can't wait to see how this influences Foxing's next effort.
4.05/5
14Remo Drive
Greatest Hits

AOTY #7
Wrote a review for this so check that I guess. Simple emo/grunge music that just hits all the right spots and is a blast to listen to.
4.11/5
15Shady Bug
tbh idk

AOTY #6
Been desperately trying to get these guys more attention on here. Other than Foxing this is the hottest STL band out there right now and they only have one album out!! Some twee/indie/emo with female vox that is a bit noise rock influenced (see the guitar work). Reminds me of Q and Not U and The Motifs at the same time...
4.20/5
16Dad Thighs
The Ghosts That I Fear

AOTY #5
As I make this list I can already see this album dropping back down to a 4...definitely grown off me a bit but man when I first heard this I was so impressed. Some old-school emo/screamo influenced stuff with female lead vox as well. Lyrics can get a bit grating and the male vocalist is really not that good but the instrumentals are perfect.
4.28/5
17Pretend
Circular Ræsoning

AOTY #4
This band popped up on my spotify awhile ago and I'm so glad I recently gave them another chance because wowow this is way too good. Some dilute-esque math rock/slowcore minus the creepy vox. Prob gonna review this next...
4.40/5
18Brockhampton
Saturation

AOTY #3
These guys came out of nowhere and made the rap AOTY. Like a more emo/Injury Reserve influenced version of Odd Future. I really wanna join this group, they sound like they are having so much fun.
4.42/5
19Alter
Pendulum

AOTY #2
Wrote a review [2]. Basically emo tinged noisy shoegaze.
4.55/5
20Mount Eerie
A Crow Looked At Me

AOTY #1
And my album of the year thus far is of course A Crow...recently 5d this as well. You've heard enough about this album so I won't bore you with my description but I've never reacted to an album like I did when I first listened to this one. Feel better Phil...
